This band went full circle. Started out as Jefferson Airplane. Then, they decided to be more modern as Jefferson Starship. As the name change happened, Mickey Thomas joined the band as co-lead singer. Then, as founding member Paul Kantor quit the group the group became Starship. In 85 and 86 this band had MONSTER number one hits with We Built This City in 85 and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us in 86. A couple of years later Grace quit the band. A few years later Paul decided to gather the original members and be Jefferson Airplane again.

They dropped the "Jefferson" because Paul Kantner left the band and he and Grace Slick jointly owned the name "Jefferson Starship". He declined to allow the band to continue under that name, threatening a lawsuit. The biggest difference between Jefferson Starship and Starship is that Jefferson Starship wrote all of their own material. Starship did not.

Great 80s movie... a must watch comedy romance. They came out with a sequel but it wasn't anything special. Kim Cattrall of Sex in the City fame is the love interest. At the beginning of the movie you find out that the woman was an Egyptian princess who was disobedient and didn't want to be put into an arranged marriage. She prays to the gods to help her find true love and her spirit is cursed. You find all this out in the opening scene. I'm so glad that you are getting the chance to really dig into the musical tapestry that so many of us grew up to, speaking as an 80s kid, who very closely relates to the music of the late 60s through the 80s. I am glad that you have continued to further your own musical knowledge and learn just how awesome music used to be before it became mass-produced and created for the wrong reasons. The great Grace Slick of the 1960's pioneering incarnation of Jefferson Airplane, then the reformed and updated version in the 70's, Jefferson Starship, then a final line-up change called Starship. She is a rock icon of that era. True story: I missed hanging with Grace some 15 years ago. I was doing some editing work with one of her friends (RIP Bara). We were scheduled to work at Bara's seaside Malibu apartment in the evening, but she called to delay because a friend was stopping by. It was only when I got there I learned that friend was Grace Slick! I remember grabbing my face, spinning in circles, shouting, "Why didn't you tell me!?" Maybe it was a good thing, because I would have probably been hitting on her the whole time! Sure, she was well into her 60's, but "Nothing Would Have Stopped Me," then, or now! Hi Grace! Call me! I have Bara stories. Halloween 2006, the fire...

Both are great, but the woman's voice is so moving, so emotional - powerful.
