Hey Long and community! I need some advice on bench pressing, when I bench the bar lands at my mid-low rib cage and that's how I can personally go heavy and feels comfortable for me but all of the staff at my gym complains that I'm going too low and I shouldn't do it. But that is what feels comfortable for me and I can put out my max output. My shoulder just hurts and it's uncomfortable if I try to hit my chest. Can I please have some advice? Would really appreciate it! (I go moderate grip and have long arms as I'm 6'2")

absolutely nothing wrong with this, people go as low as upper abs on bench. I myself hit my chest a little lower aswell.
@uliwehner2 жыл бұрын
as said by others there is nothing wrong with hitting lower. this just favors your triceps more. Maybe try to occasionally use a wider grip, this does flare your arms a little, engages your chest more, and the weight naturally lands a little higher. In my case gripping a little wider helps my shoulders. Everybody is different, don't do it if it hurts your joints. plain and simple

Your bench session will feel heavy until you get used to not eating breakfast. I used to not eat breakfast before anything strenuous and would burnout usually before the halfway point of the workout. Your body is asleep until you “break” the “fast”.

Hey Long, quick question on Maxout day structure. How do you usually structure your maxout day when trying for a new PR? Purely singles? Gradually decreasing reps? Any advice would be appreciated
@UFpwrLifter3 жыл бұрын
Hey David, it changes with the day honestly, but warm up sets remain same. Then instead of 315x5, I’ll do it for 3. Then move up in weight while hitting singles. I like my first max attempt to be heavy rep #7 or #8 or so. Still fresh enough and not too fatigued.
@thetruthalwaysscary3 жыл бұрын
If the gym has 1,000 people and you are the strongest "stronger than 99.9%" ...Very unlikely. I accept the strongest bench press in your weight category. Ones you reach the 2.5 X body weight ratio...my respect is there! The guy did 410 at 154 bodyweight is 2.66 X is exceptional.
@kaiserhs62753 жыл бұрын
I do a similar work load with regards to one rep max percentage but typically less on volume recently. With that being said I always see your triples have nice solid pause even on the first two reps but everyone except for the last tends to be cut a bit short on full extension of the arms. If I don't have any shoulder issues is it still worth trying to pause the momentum of my beginning reps a bit more which I don't in exchange for less lockout which I always maximize for all reps? Thanks hopefully that was understandable lol
@kaiserhs62753 жыл бұрын
My grip width is pretty close to shoulder width so I guess it is easier for me to push each time to full extension then if i tried to super cut range of motion with an ultra wide grip. My only issue is that i workout alone so no lift off potential and the final phase off pushing the weight away from the rack towards my chest like a lat pull over tends to be harder to do than the actually rep when i approach 1 rep max so i need to find a way to make unracking easier
@UFpwrLifter3 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t fully lock out the reps because I’ve noticed it sometimes causes me elbow tendinitis. I pause because I am trying to strengthen the hardest part of the lift for me; off of the chest. The pauses (it’s been years) have made a huge impact on speed off of chest for me. It’s all personally preference and depends on what you’re trying to do for yourself.

Rotator cuffs are gonna take years to heal on their own. I tore mine and never got surgery. After about 3 years, I’m back to normal. Stay away from doing pull-ups. Those will continue to put strain on your shoulders for the time being.
