I completely disagree with all the points in this video. I think this the most beautiful, soothing and safe location in the land because of the ocean, sunlight and masterful music.

Perhaps I can help to clarify a bit, from my point of view, that feeling that you describe in the section where you talk about Majula. Aesthetically, the place is very well designed to evoke such feelings of belonging but also of alienation, which is why it is contradictory, to say the least 'cause you describe it well that inconsistency. Yume Nikki "dream diary" (the 3d version of the game), has a place called "white desert" that closely resembles that vibe, as well as the "pink sea". Not only in terms of composition, but also in the setting, musically even. I would recommend to check those places to anyone interested by watching a gameplay, at least, from those areas to appreciate it. This "haunting" feeling is also closely coupled with the category of images of "liminal spaces", and it has always been curious to me how it differentiate itslef from the anxiety that the contemplation of said spaces produces when compared with those of the "cursed images" types. Speaking of th term liminal, it comes to one's mind a kind of meaning associated with the transit of a process, perhaps amphibian; an intermediate state, being through thresholds ... the liminal space at the same time is paradoxical when it is contrasted with the (im) possibility of the spectrum, the ghotst, which is the one that remains in such a gap, and is unable to leave it. Jaques Derrida has a text about it, despite the fact that in it by analyzing Marx he focuses, he talks about a kind of "hauntology" that helps to think more about these paradoxes, contradictions, and thus allowing us to associate them with the vicarious aesthetic sensation that, to our amazement, we often lack the words to describe them properly.
