I actually damaged my vocal chords, had severe imflammation from GERD (acid reflux) and it PHYSICALLY HURT to speak for more than 15 minutes at anything above a whisper. But I still had to work (cashier at a gas station) so I texted it to my coworker, she did the talking for me until her shift ended (overlapping shifts for 2 hours), then made a little sign to put on the counter for the rest of my shift, explaining I had no voice, please be patient with me and thank you : ) Well this lady comes in, pitches a storm about how she heard me talking yesterday, that sign is bullshit, I'm lying, just speak to her. She escalated this thing for 20 minutes, refused to read the sticky notes I wrote to her, just being a complete horrible scurge on humanity 🙄 I finally had to speak, came out strained and she had to realize I wasn't faking and swallow her shitty pride. Next day comes in, says not a word till the transaction is done, then points to it and goes "still on that, huh?" I just stared dead eyed at her until she left.

Seriously, not even in my worst, most stuck up days of competitive singing would I call my voice my instrument. Funny story though: I got my highest score from the judges on a day where I accidentally got the wrong address and proceeded to drop what my parents described as a "nuclear F-bomb" as we scrambled to get to the right location on time. That day I think I figured out how to use the "Fuck" word as parts of speech as of yet unknown to linguistics, and it turned out to be an amazing vocal warmup.

I remember in choir my teacher used to get so mad at the honey thing. The kids would be like "Well it helps the throat!" and he'd be like "Yeah, swallowing 3 ounces of sugary goo, really good for lubricating the vocal chords-- DRINK WATER, FOOLS"
@TheresaTV1

Ironically, water was a major cause of my vocal problems. Turns out that I'm allergic to the chloramines that they use to disinfect tap water. I had to switch to SmartWater or other vapor-distilled waters. I usually just drink sweet iced tea because the sugar really is less "drying" than plain water. This isn't me making stuff up, I spent months going to an ENT specialist to figure things out (I was singing opera at the time).
@ananassharikopodshipnikovi9308

@@TheresaTV1 I mean, you can buy bottled water in huge canisters and then use pomp to pour water -- that's pretty cheap (at least in Russia) and convenient. Drinking sweet drinks all the time is pretty bad for your health, especially for diabetes. Also sugary drinks, I heard, are bad for satisfying thirst since sugar just makes you want to drink more, though I'm not 100% sure on that

Once got a sore throat on the day of a choir concert, so I decided to go on vocal rest until the concert started. I was eating breakfast with a friend and mostly just smiled, nodded, and reacted appropriately to whatever he said. The first time I actually had to say something, I typed it on my phone and showed it to him. And-this absolute champ-he typed his response on his own phone and showed it to me. Like, he didn’t quite understand what was going on, but he got the spirit. 😆

In my experience, rest can actually be kinda bad for your voice. Obviously you want to avoid straining it, but singing/humming some stuff in the middle of your range just to keep it warmed up, and not yelling/screaming actually should work better. Too much rest and you'll find those high notes harder to hit

Hi. Did your voice heal? I'm back on vocal rest after violent coughing from a respiratory infection.
@clarapitts4648
@clarapitts4648 Жыл бұрын
@@Mint-kj9kw Hi! My voice is somewhat better now since I graduated high school and am no longer in choir. Coughing is definitely the issue that's slowed my vocal healing the most though, and I did about 6 months of voice therapy before college. Healing is definitely possible, it just requires some vocal re-training and building healthy vocal hygiene habits that have been hard for me with personally with starting college. I don't lose my speaking voice regularly anymore, and I can gently sing along to music I listen to, but if I try to sing in a group I still tend to overdo it and lose my voice. I would say though that if you ease yourself back into vocal activity after you get your coughing under control, and don't further aggravate your vocal chords, there's a good chance you'll heal completely. I also recommend using a nebulizer with either just water or saline solution. It really helps moisturize your airway to promote healing and decrease inflammation, and the saline can help loosen mucus buildup so that coughing or throat clearing is both less common and less violent. I really hope your voice is able to recover! Vocal rest is honestly so hard, but you and your voice will thank you for all the effort you put in. Best of luck!

To put a long story short, my throat became swollen and my voice was hard to use, so after lots of research and consideration I went on vocal rest. As a guy who did singing for 20 years and even did it semi-professionally when I was in university, I dont think I ever went on "vocal rest". Like, I feel that if I don't talk before a performance, then my voice is all hoarse and crackly cos it's not warmed up well enough.

I have never heard people complain as much as singers in groups. I have literally seen them go on for 25 minutes about how their larynx is sore or some shit. You Daniel, are a comedy genius.

I lost my voice completely for a year, and it felt nice to laugh at it. It would happen so often when I would want to say something, but the conversation would move on too fast, so I'd end up just sitting there. And people definitely get frustrated with you and take away your notepad/whiteboard/phone (I used all of the above). For some reason, this kinda made me feel better about it (no one died while my voice was gone, though 😁). Super funny, great work!

Why did you lost it? Did you know that the voice will come back or were you just lucky?
@Mazarine_Fernandez

@@WhiteCranK I don't remember why I lost it. I know went to a lot of doctor's visits and went to a specialist, but I don't remember anything. I don't have a lot of memories around it, unfortunately. I remember not knowing if it would ever come back, and my dad just told me that it would be fine and don't think about it. Sorry I can't really answer your questions I just don't know.
