It's surprising how 99% of the movie tie in games that are talked about are the bad ones but yet we're now seeing the list of those that not only surpassed the stereotype, but also showed genuine effort that was put into them.

To be fair, the number of good tie in games are few. But it's nice to see a greater number of good ones being covered. Could be cause if minime that's putting tie in games in general into the limelight. On the top of my head, the good ones are Simpsons hit and run The chronicles of riddick Ghost rider Golden eye (though it has aged pretty poorly from the controls alone) Toy story 2 Peter Jackson's King Kong The Official Game of the Movie I think that's it. Hit the nail on the head with the whole "unlockables are now gated behind DLC or pre-orders" bit. I feel like games have really lost something in that way, and I have still yet to experience that same excitement of unlocking secret bonus content as I did YEARS ago in previous console generations. Feels like it started dying out post 6th gen, and is all but gone now.

man i miss this type of stuff. i understand that games became a lot more expansive to make than they used to be back in the PS2 and Xbox days, so licensed stuff became a lot more rare to see on pc and console and is instead relegated to city builder and auto battler mobile game crap instead, which sucks because every now and then you would get stuff like this that's pretty good, hell even the bad ones still had the novelty and charm of seeing how the devs tried to translate the movie/show into a video game format even if it didn't work, but with mobile its always the same 3 games with different codes of paint on them.

@jurtheorc8117
@jurtheorc8117 Жыл бұрын
Oy heck yeah. I love Darksiders 1 as well, but the selection of *weapons*, man. Built greatly upon the secondary weapon idea in my opinion with how there's different subtypes of secondary weapons. Granted, only differences moveset-wise between all secondary weapons is the charge-sweetspot release attack for ground and air, but i just think that's really cool on top of the Possessed Weapon concept. Which, to be fair, can break the game with stuff like high crit chance and lifesteal/wrath regeneration on Crit.. But being able to customize a weapon stat-wise still makes finding random loot viable, be it for being able to feed it to a Possessed Weapon, or selling them to be able to buy a weapon at a merchant to feed it to the Possessed Weapon. I'm currently trying to do some stuff in New Game+ for DS2, trying to learn how to combo properly and doing some experimenting with the dedicated sweetspot release for different weapon subtypes. I'm very much enjoying the projectile attack of a set of Possessed Armblades and want to try doing some experimenting with a Buckler next.

This game has a special place in my heart. I got it as one of my first ps2 games and it was my second console after a Sega. I used to be really terrified of most things (In my defense I had like... 6 and was really scared of a lot of things.) then couldn't beat the first instance of the red big demon. (The one that later becomes a common enemy, and has many spikes in his back.) so my grandfather helped me and beated it for me while I looked at him amazed. Dang neat video, i'm impressed by seeing all the different action games you talk about. Ghost Rider is a game i keep hearing that it's a decent game and i've seen a few videos about it, like Matt McMuscles' one, but never managed to find it in a game store or something. Still, i'll be keeping my eye out for it sometime. Ironically, Ghost Rider as such might end up my first DmC game if that were to happen. Closest thing so far that i've played that is like DmC is Darksiders 1 and 2, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 and 2. Also, when you mentioned the dodge thing, i was thinking of one of my favourite PS2 games by name of Kya: Dark Lineage if you've ever heard of it. It's like a 3D platformer-ish adventure with an art direction similar to Rayman 2 and 3, but with a dedicated and quite in-depth combat system like a 3D fighter. Kya is a solid game, but there's not really anything else *quite* like it and that makes it hard to compare it. As said before, the combat is like a 3D fighter, like a mini Tekken. But you only start with a number of punch and kick combos, given to you by a magic bracelet. To unlock more movesets, like more complex series of kicks, grab moves, special evasive moves, you'll have to buy bracelets of different colors. It's a bit like going up a belt in Karate, as well as buying a new weapon in Ratchet and Clank. I'm not sure how you'd feel about it, as on one hand, it could be said the combos don't give an idea of the full scope of what you can do because dedicated grab and evasive moves are not given until later. But on the other hand, it could be said that it gives the player some time to acclimatize to the moves they currently still have and see how they work against enemies. I'd have more to say, but as is i simply hope this title may have gotten your interest, and that if you decide to check it out, it will be a good experience. Kya aside, thank you for making this video, and wish you well and fun on your next project, be they for YT or outside of it.

Still an underrated game even if it is a DMC clone. Loved the soundtrack, gameplay and the atmosphere along with the visuals. Also, this game had so many unlockables like being able to play as Blade and other skins, stuff like that was a basic feature back then, now you gotta pay for everything.

Man, I used to love this game, but my saves would get corrupted so much and since I was a kid I didn't know what to do and just shelved the game till I forgot about it cuz I thought my disc was broken. I kinda miss it now especially since whenever I hear Ghost Rider shout "Vengeance!" in a demonic voice it hyped me up so much and the motorscycle sequences were so fun and hilarious and I'd purposely fail sometimes just so I can see the model stretch out so much.

It's a cool game , also when i used to play it a long time ago i use the select button or the one next to it to taunt the enemies to always have my style meter up, i sadly can't remember which one to be fair.

The game music was pretty memorable as well! Still one of my favorite OSTs of all time.

Yoshis island had this kind of final boss but I feel like it was executed well. Although I haven't played it in a long time. Love this video as I'm getting into game design it's super helpful that people have played these kinds of games that I never knew about. And I feel you on old games. That's what I want to do specifically. Unlock stuff without having to buy it as pre-orders or anything other bullshit.

I never knew there was a sweet Ghost Rider action game, was there any other games like this from Marvel that are a bit obscure

I will never forget when I first got this game for my PS2. I played this game 24/7 and it was first game I ever 100 percented. It was a great time.

I enjoy all of your videos, but have particularly enjoyed these ps2 deep dives. I am projecting hard but it seems like you do as well, they have an overall more positive vibe. I am broke from buying these games on ebay now but can forgive that.

It's a shame games that are old and obscure have become harder to find and also more expensive. Their obscurity used to make them cheaper but that's reversed in the last few years. Hoping I can find this game physically someday at a reasonable price.

I remember a game called Wheelie on the Speccy back in the day, where once you navigated your way through the game a boss called Ghost Rider appeared & would race back to the beginning; you had to win to truly complete the game. I don't suppose anyone else remembers? You'd have to be late 40's or above 😁

The ps2 might have some of the best tie in games ever. Maybe next to the snes/genesis. Like the scooby doo games, nightmare before Christmas, spongebob battle for bikini bottom and Dutchman’s revenge
