Martial Maze presents Modern Combatives. In today’s episode we travel to Peekskill New York to get together with SWAM Grandmaster Tony Watts/ Moy Wu as he’s refer to in Wing Chun circles. Grandmaster Watts martial arts journey started as a child at 8 seeking to defend himself against abuse.
He has a 2nd degree black belt in Kirokushinkai karate, and a 3rd degree black belt in Goju karate.
-His training brought him to study Ving Tsun under his Sifu Moy Yat. Moy Yat was the youngest to become a master under the legendary Yip Man from the movies. Ironically, just the same TONY WATTS became the youngest to become a master under Moy Yat Earning himself the name of "Moy Wu" (honorable, well off, wealthy) in the family.
-After 10 years serving our country as an Elite Army Ranger. Sifu Watts continued his study with the Supreme Grandmaster Dr. Moses Powell. Where he learned, and also mastered (8th dan) Sanuces Ryu Jui Jitsu! Received the title of Professor also during this time.
-Grandmaster Watts was also a famous celebrity bodyguard who has protected Michael Jackson, Teddy Riley, Guy, Blackstreet, Nelson Mandella, DMX, The Lox, Ja Rule, Eddie Griffin and the list goes on!!!
-With the guidance and blessings of his two legendary teachers(Moy Yat, Dr. Powell) Professor Watts created his own system combining the two arts called ChunJitsuRyu or the TOTAL Wing Chun JuiJitsuRyu Academy. Which he teaches today and has made many masters!
-Tony Watts is the 7th master of the SWAM family. Where he was awarded his title of Grandmaster!!! He currently teaches out of Be First Boxing Gym in the Peekskills NY and is welcoming all new students!!!!

I JP Moy Heese, a name assigned to me by my Sifu Grandmaster Moyat, met and became a disciple of Grandmaster Professor T Watts shortly after visiting the 2nd Fl Moy Gwoon on East Broadway and studying Internal Systems in Chinatown NY including Hung Ga. Professor Watts new my dedication and after a few months of training gave me the keys to his Gwoon to train Crrectional Police clientele during the day while attending his classes at night. After one year I was saddened that GM Watts had to leave for his career as a professional Body Guard in Beverly Hills California where he worked with celebrities around the world including Steven Segal and President Nelson Mandela. Sifu Tony has been one of the biggest inspiration’s in my Kung Fu life as a Martial Artist and truly represents the Moyat family, and finally led me to GM Moyats SSA, a Sifu and a brother for life! What a gift I am thankful, humbled and grateful! Grandmaster Professor Tony is a true living Warrior among us, a dedicated Martial Artist since he was a child, and a great teacher and role model for all Martial Artists, he is made of Steel with a heart of gold, anyone fortunate enough to be in his presence, learns this and knows this. Peace and love to you older brother and God bless you ! Joe Hayes

Great interview with Grand master Watts, my Wing Chun Kung Fu uncle. I first met Tony Watts back in the mid 1980’s when he was a guest instructor at my Sifu’s new Kwoon. At that time I was cross training in Pa Kua, Tai Chi and Shuai Chiao with another Sifu literally leaving one class to go to another in the same night. As a new student I was blown away by his skill level along with his physique having the body of a comic book super hero. Shortly thereafter Sifu Tony returned to the school to accompany Moy Yat and Pete Pejil for a wooden dummy seminar. Fast forward 40 something years later. Grand Master Watts is not a “user of mastered skills”. He has been working, polishing, and refining his Kung Fu to the next level through collaborating with many other grand masters, along with bringing his own insights into the Wing Chun through real world hands on application of the Kung Fu through his line of work. It was always my habit to get up at 4:30am to practice my Kung Fu before I would go to work, something I still do to this day. When my Sifu found out about my training habits he told me “The only other person I know who gets up religiously and runs their Kung Fu that early in the morning is Tony Watts”. Grand Master Watts is the real deal and if you are a student of his consider yourself blessed 🙏🏼

I live on the east coast of Canada and study the history of M.A along with being a student / instructor for 47 years. I saw the original “way of the warrior” VHS tape way back in the late 80s and found not only everyone in the video fantastic and inspiring I enjoyed Mr. Powell Philosophy on fighting especially when he says he has seen “people do fantastic demos, bend swords, or spears on their throats but can they actually fight” I still use that comment to this day when teaching my students. So as a white guy from the east coast of Canada his Philosophy still resonates with me today, even though I’ve never trained before.

Perhaps you guys criticisms of Professor Watts skills, are totally valid. Perhaps not. There are four things that I will say. Anyone that got a teaching license from Professor Moses Powell, is not someone to be taken lightly, under any circumstances. It's easy to talk smack from behind your computer, about people you've never crossed hands with---there is a reason that he has the reputation that he does. There is a big difference between martial sports & martial arts (no offense intended) And finally, I believe his school is still open. My feeling has always been that direct experience is the best teacher. If you make the journey to his school, go in with an open mind to whatever he may share with you, and leave the attitude at home. You might learn something about yourself.

@@TheMartialMaze They are both correct. I will explain how this works, it isn't complex. Any Chinese word can be written in English. Different areas in China [or even in the same place], spell the same word differently, Even today, there is no one "correct" system on how to write these words according to how they sound in Chinese. So "Yip Man" in a certain area of Canton Province may be said "Ip," because the Cantonese language has many dialects, and "Ip" is how it is said in that location. Look at this example, 陳, a last name , is written Chan, Chen, Chin, Cheung, even Tsan, Tsin, depending on how one says it in their dialect, but it is the same word, 陳, a last name. This is Jackie Chan's last name. And Ving Chun or Wing Chun? Both. Somewhere in Canton Province, Wing is said like Ving, so they wrote Ving. Chun or Tsun? Same thing, someone said, " the "ch" sound in Chun should be written "TSun,"" for long, other reasons that make it more confusing that need be understood now. I hope this helps, I'd choose any spelling as it has been used in the school's lineage in the past. The video is awesome.

I met him at a seminar in Atlanta and I swear he had sniffed some powder before it started. He was sweating profusely and jumpy. The guy named Eric that went before him was way better, but they cut his demo short because it was a " Grandmaster Tony Watts" seminar 🙄. Wayne Belonoha should have gave that guy Eric more time because people actually got to participate whereas Watts just talked loud like a WWE promo and walked around giving random people slaps to the chest 😂

@@TheMartialMaze in the video a guy makes a distinction between 3 types of martial artists. A focus on Art, Sport, and self defense respectively. This video showcases nothing but "Art". We as a species know that this way of fighting is just objectively less effective than things that are commonly used in sport. So if what you are training doesn't work against committed resistance, then why train it?
@TheMartialMaze
@TheMartialMaze 5 ай бұрын
@@GreenLighterStudios I guess this is where I’m confused. Because the principles and concepts utilized in this video has been battled, tested. meaning it has worked against committed resistance effectively. And not just him but his students as well. So respectfully I guess my next question would be. Have you ever trained in this Martial system?
