He basically made a nen deal/restriction just like Kurapika did to strengthen his chains against the spiders, except the deal was much more severe in Gon's case where he sacrificed all his nen and whatever he learned to become a temporary monster. In HxH, nen users can often strengthen their abilities with restrictions but the greater the restriction, the greater the power. It's a double edged sword. Also what Pitou used to attack Gon after he killed her is known as "Nen after death" which is nen that can be directed at the enemy in any way after death if the user feels immense hatred towards that person and in Pitou's case, she's so worried about Gon killing the king/Meruem that "Nen after death" was enabled. The writing in this arc is so beautiful, Togashi shows that Light (Gon) and Dark (Meruem) switch positions and it's amazing. Meruem starts caring for life and starts loving while Gon goes insane and loses his humanity to become a monster.

This transformation is basically the culmination of gon’s character throughout the entire show. In earlier arcs and throughout this one, gon has been seen to make very childlike, immature decisions based on a juvenile sense of morality. Many characters such as zepile, wing, bisky, etc. have called into question how simple minded he is and how gon doesn’t care about right and wrong, but moreso what is important to him (like a child). Togashi purposely made this aspect of his character stand out in the very ADULT ruthless world of hxh. In this arc, we see gon descend into morbid madness, yet he still remains a childlike hope that kite is still alive. When all of this is crushed at pitou’s revelation of kite’s death, gon loses that childlike innocent thinking, hence that ADULT GON transformation. EDIT: yes I understand the surface-level nen condition gon put on himself. I’m talking about the metaphorical depth behind this transformation.
@ey.93294 жыл бұрын
Are you sure thats the explnation? I always thought that it wass clear he used the pact, like Kurapika. In terms of losing his Nen forever he could transform into something he would look like ,when he would have practiced for decades, like Killiua said.
@oscarchavezavellan27384 жыл бұрын
Dude no, he just made a deal with nen. Condition and limitation "If you give me the power to kill pitou (limitation, choosing one specific purpose) I'll give up my nen (Basically his life, without nen no organism can exist. It's also the condition, his life for more power). Besides, this kind of power wouldn't be possible in other nen users, since gon just got the power that he could had had if would have developed his maximum potential, he was destined to have that power, that' s why he became an adult. If you want to give him some meaning that's completely ok, I personally think is genius the depth of the power up, but this wouldn't have been as good as it was without the proper link of this power up with nen's rules. First coherence, then meaning, that's why it's so freaking genius.
@the44Jeff4 жыл бұрын
@@ey.9329 he did make a pact similar to kurapika but it wasn't to transform or anything like that. It was this "I want the power to kill pitou, whatever that costs i'll pay it". Through the entire anime it's said that Gon can be a "monster", and this is it. What he does here is a vow/restriction "I don't care if this is the end, so I will use everything" He is trading everything (his potential, his life and nen) in exchange for the enough aura to defeat Pitou. Because it's too much aura for his "child body" his body also matures to an age that can actually take the amount of aura he is gaining.

Yes. Well said.
@Limpass6103 жыл бұрын
several things he sacrificed anything he could , not to fight but to MURDER pitou. gon doesn't know nen restriction, he just left it to nen and it took everything. another thing is that nen slows your age. he might look thirty but were don't know whats his actual age is, he might be 80 for all we know. in his low self worth state that he were, his life doesn't actually mean that much to him, so nen took EVERYTHInG this boy had to offer,

Kite taught Gon to go for the head in their encounter together. So, he kinda just kept putting full power Jajanken blasts on Pitou's dome, and only her dome, for a while. His nen potential was always said to be incredibly high. What he did was sacrifice all of that for the power to kill Pitou. Pitou was worried about him going after the King, but he literally didn't care about anything but killing Pitou right then and there. One of Pitou's Nen abilities was to control things with her nen marionette. The same marionette could be used to increase her physical abilities significantly. Since she was worried about Gon killing the King, her ability took over her dead corpse and tried to go for Gon, taking his arm. What a lot of people believe, however, is that Gon intentionally allowed her to take it, since she'd taken Kite's arm in the first encounter.

SPOILERS (kinda). We have all heard or read the comparisons between Gon and Meruem in terms of human and moster and who becomes what, but there's something that I'd like to add and its the theme about maturity or human development underlying them. Meruem, technically, was a kid as well as Gon, a newborn being with very straightforward and simple notions about the world, his place in it, morality and so on. Through out the arc his scope widens, he gains more knowledge and wisdom, not just power, and makes the decision to allow himself to love and connect intimately with someone, arguably one of the most important choices an adult human being can make. He has a bond now, something to live for. Gon, on the other side, not just loses a new made bond (and one that connects him with his abstent father figure) but also reminds the reader and watcher that he, while gifted with talent, strenght and a good, joyful heart of a kid, he's still... well, a kid who doesn't know how to cope with death as an adult or someone more mature as Killua would, and the prime example of it is when he constantly swayes between blaming Pitou for Kite's death and himself. Gon sacrificed his future for power in the present and while he transforms into an adult he still was, at the core, just a kid lost in grief and self-blame who doesn't know what he's doing (notice how his face looks younger again when he stares back at Killua before the explosion).
