The region was called that by some. There never was a Palestinian nation. Palestinian nationalism (just like zionism), mainly takes root in the 20th century. I doubt you will find many maps from the ottoman period that would call it that by the way. Many peoples controlled the levant over the centuries. Its been christian, islamic and jewish land over the centuries. Everyone over there can take old maps that 'show' it used to be their land. Setting the term or changing these terms are just as thought controlling as each other. It is so frustrating to hear someone so indoctrinated by propaganda to claim that a people never existed, or to ignore that they were forced from their homes at gunpoint en masse and so would have the natural desire to want their homes back. The current land name was given to the area by Emperor Hadrian in CE135 when he exiled the Jews and renamed their land. I very much doubt that you would find this name in ancient Egypt, unless referring to trade.

I find it astonishing that everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that Palestine is indeed a County recognised by the vast majority of the World's States (within the 1967 Borders), roughly the same number that recognises Israel as a Country (within those same borders).... All the human rights organizations including hrw, amnesty, btselem, icc and 90% of the world considers Israel an apartheid state. Why dafuq are people even debating about this topic when it's a fact easily verifiable if you visit european (Israeli) occupied Palestine. The natives have different rules and are judged by military law while jewish settlers living in the same area are judged by civilian law and can vote in elections.
