@alexross55186 күн бұрын
@@travelingjohn69 not sure where you get your history from, but Jews were second-class citizens in the ME. And they weren't "accepted" by the majority of the land when they came back in mass. There were numerous massacres and pogroms against them until they started to fight back. Their first leader there even tried to have Jews sent to Auschwitz. You should really do some reyon the history of modern day Israel and the events leading up to it's independence, as well as it's the first number of decades as a sovereign state. The Arab side has always wanted it's destruction, well before any "occupation" or settlements. Back then they were at least honest that they just didn't want Jews on any part of Mandate Palestine, even tho most of the Arabs who would reside there came after British rule and the influx of Jews had created more jobs, which they migrated for. Also, the Arab countries did fight with Hitler in WW2 and even expelled every Jew living in the entire Middle East, continuing their intolerance of any minorities in the area. Ex. There is a section of Gaza called "Slave Square."

oversimplified take on a complex history. Jews have a historical connection to the land going back thousands of years, and modern Israel was established through a UN resolution in 1947 that proposed two states-one for Jews, one for Arabs. The Jewish community accepted it; Arab leaders rejected it and declared war. Yes, the conflict resulted in tragedies, including displacement, but it’s not as simple as ‘stealing land.’ Both sides have suffered deeply, and peace requires understanding the full history, not reducing it to slogans.

This is incredibly one sided and it quite different from what I have heard. Now to be fair, I was ten years old when this was happening. But I remember the Jews in the holy land (as it was then called) thinking that it was unfair that they were given (by the UN) almost all the Negev Desert and not give any of Jerusalem, but accepting that anyway. I also remember Arabian countries NOT in the holy land deciding that they wanted to get control of pieces of the holy land, and encouraging local Arabs to flee, to get out of the way of their invading armies. I remember very clearly, even though I was just a little boy, than nobody thought the Israelis could defeat the Arab invaders because they were too few, had minimal weapons, no heavy weapons, no clear authority over one another, no money, etc. It does look as if the Arab invaders were ultimately incompetent but the first few months of the war were all Israeli defeats. And I remember very clearly that in the subsequent decades, the surrounding Arab states did NOT give the Palestinian refugees any help, such as letting them freely leave the refugees. There's another thing I remember very well. England had, just a short time before leaving Palestine, left India, not because they didn't want to rule India, but because India, led by Mahatma Gandhi had, by nonviolence, shamed England to leave. I remember this so clearly, even though I was a little boy, that after WWII, all the adults I know were sick of wars and saw in inspiration in Gandhi's non-violent method. In the holy land, the adversary from before the war was the same country, England, which had been shamed into leaving India, but nobody in the holy land seemed to think Gandhi's idea was appealing.

The thing about Dreyfus was that he was from Alcase, which is a part of France that was captured by the Germans in 1871, and had a strong German aspect to its culture. @@Meirstein At the same time, the fact that Alsace populated predominately by Frenchmen who also spoke at least some German made Alsatians actually preferred to become officers in the French Army, since they had more familiarity with the nation's primary enemy. @MarkunatorАй бұрын
It doesn’t matter if their ancestors were “Celtic” or “Germanic”; those demographic terms are completely obsolete and haven’t been relevant for millennia. What _is_ relevant is that Austria _was_ a part of Nazi Germany during the entirety of the Holocaust and World War II, and that Austrian men served in the Wehrmacht and were Nazi party members and overrepresented in the SS; and also, both Adolfs - Hitler _and_ Eichmann - were Austrians!
@boxerfencerАй бұрын
@Markunator oh I understand obfuscating the true ethnicity of Austrians is important to your agenda, but my comment is simply in protest of the categorization of Austrians as genetic Germans. As I understand it, they're are demonstrably not so. Let's bring some more context to non German participants in the German war effort. There were approximately 1 million foreign volunteers and conscripts who served in the Wehrmacht during World War II. These individuals came from various countries including Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, there were many Soviet citizens who joined the Wehrmacht forces as Hiwis (or Hilfswillige). So does that mean demographic differentiation between European nations whose citizens participated in the Wehrmacht "completely obsolete and" not "relevant"? If so, are we to assume all these nationalities are German? It's obvious and more to the point that what has your knickers in a twist is a presumptuous idea that differentiation between Austrian and German ethnicity suggests absolving Austrian citizens of WWII war crimes and crimes against humanity culpability, which is premised on the idea of collective punishment by way of casting guilt onto a broad and arbitrarily fictional ethnic group. Your line of thought solidifies as "you did the crime, and made up offenders in great numbers, therefore you're German!". All quite Shakey and fallacious thinking, since it doesn't function as a syllogism. Neither numbers, nor criminal activity make you German, nor are these factors idiosyncratic to being German. Don't pretend to be able to decide for me what's important. I can do that without patronizing paternalistic hasbara. Thank you.
@MarkunatorАй бұрын
@ Yawn! Nothing I said was “hasbara”; it’s obvious that you just use that as a synonym for “Jew-shit”. This is a truly pathetic comment. Austria was factually a part of Germany during the Holocaust, all the other countries you listed were not. It’s that simple, and you’ve also just unmasked yourself as an antisemite by calling my comment “hasbara”! So, you can pretty much forget all about me treating you with literally anything other than utter contempt and condescension from this point onwards, by the way…

What he said was essentially true in part but not correct: 1) there was always a presence of Jews in that area, since the bible time. Small numbers (so say 5000 souls). 2) Jewish emigration started in 1881-1882 from Russia and the Yemen. It was not "Illegal" as he suggested; people were free to come and go from the ottoman empire. 3) The problems between the Arabs and the Jews started around 1905, not 1917, as many Jewish settlements - perfectly legal - were attacked by Arab armed gangs. 4) The Ottomans started to harass the jewish population during WW1. for example - they kicked all the jews from jaffa which were left to die from hunger. 5) the Jews in europe were not ílligal immigrants'- they were certainly part and parcel of the countries which they lived in. He has a very twisted prism of the situation.

They identified as Arabs, and they STILL identify as Arabs to this day. There was no talk of a Palestinian states when Egypt and Jordan ruled those territories. Also - calling Israel a “colonial enterprise” shows you to be intellectually dishonest. Colonialism was when a European state created “colonies” under their rule in other territories, to take advantage of the area’s natural resources and send them back to the homeland. Israel does not fall under this definition and has no “homeland” that sent Jews there. It has nothing to do with colonialism.
