While I like the idea of the chequered floor, I would be inclined to keep the grey for where you can find things that get dropped - small screws, valve collets etc.

I think the chequered pattern would be too busy and would detract from the clean look you are going for.

Nice result on the door film and good idea to protect again 👍 Maybe go black border and grey centre as the walkway around the benches will have the dirtiest areas 😉

Black with grey border will look smart. Chequer will look a bit racing finish flag and lame IMO. Doing a wonderful job. I'm glad I'm not the only OCD person who was thinking about that shutter!

Lee, I think you should consider inlaying your logo into the floor! This is easily done by using a CNC Milling Machine to mill the logo out of black tiles. As the tiles are square it is easy to scale the logo and machining to any size and across multiple tiles. Make a fixture to virtually eliminate workpiece set up time per tiles. Then cut a negative of each tile out of BE Orange tiles and marry the two together. They will fit perfectly together like a big jigsaw puzzle. I would steer clear of a chequered floor idea and look at using the grey to distinguish walkways or machine operating areas etc. I can just picture your office now with a nice black floor and a large BE logo in BE Orange inlayed into it in front of your desk.

Looking good. That little partition wall hiding the racks needs a tie at the top back to the main wall where the racks go otherwise it will get a bit wobbly over time.

Personally having seen many workshops of various types I would go solid black flooring with the allocated walkways between areas and fire exits in grey. This will denote areas not to block or impede it looks mint and is a really good way to see exit routes if the worst should happen

What a bonus with the roller shutter door, that will save time and money, gonna look banging when its all done, that said chequered flooring is 1970's and will look stupid.

9:10 NO black floor covering, you need all the light you can get. It’s a workshop, light gray tiles all over works very well. Makes cleaning easy and it’s all one colour so it don’t fool your eyes like the check pattern is meant to do.

Black and grey checkered. I would have also hung a black ceiling and taken the walls up to meet the ceiling. Stops any dust, ect, from getting into the clean area and would look mint with the lights

What about the roof/ceiling Lee? I take it that you may do something with it later once you get settled in after this work is done? May I suggest if you did a suspended ceiling, you can get insulated tiles for them. We used these in some of our offices. Changing out the old suspended ceiling tiles to the insulated ones made the offices quieter and warmer. Would help with concentration when building engines while machines are going and less heat going right to the top! Agree with most others on flooring, don’t go chequer, you’ll get sick of it very soon. Black on the high traffic areas if possible to help with dirt. You can’t help it with oil and dirt when working on engines, especially on the tear down.

I think as an old time served mechanic in 1960 ( that's when we trained as engineers scraping bearings etc ) that you time would be best served putting gray around the bench areas, it will look more professional to clients as well as serving as an easy to find dropped pieces of kit, otherwise the place looks fab ant it makes a change to see proper engineers at work, well done guy's.

Don't lay the tiles as a chequer pattern, I guarantee that after a while it will start to do your head in. You will think yourselves to be chess pieces! And if any of you ever suffer from migraines a chequer pattern floor could sctually set you off. Grey floor, black border would be my suggestion. It's still a big job, good luck with that, hope you have lots of help.

Thanks for the update, it's taking time, but you are also doing a lot of work getting there and it'll look real good. I'm not sure from looking here what the finish on that door is as far as a plastic type coating or white paint, just be careful that the cleaner don't start fetching paint off and knacker it. I had a friend here in Canada ask me for brake clean, to try get some household wood paint off her factory paint finish tin sheet garden fence. it took that dry wood paint off quick but also where she did it, it started taking the paint off the sheets back to bare metal. Take care

No wonder you had to have a lie-down after fixing the hex-lights. Going up and down ladders for two or three hours is very tiring. Did you get your wife to fan you? I fully agree with the other comments about the tiles. A chequered pattern would be too frantic. If it was a fully open space, then perhaps yes, but with so many shelves, racks and work benches dotted around, then no.

The workshop is looking amazing. I would go with the chequered floor. If the tiles are are smallish you could make up the squares with four tiles of one type to make a larger patch of colour. Are you going to brace the top of the wall that closing in the racking? I would be concerned with people accidentally banging into it and knocking it off its moorings.

It's a workshop not an office so I think your choice of décor is completely over the top. If you start worrying about damaging the tiles as you move things across the floor etc etc etc instead of just doing the job in hand it will end up as a very unnecessary and annoying distraction.
