When Hollywood was able to combine intellectual depth and classical talent with commercial and popular entertainment. That’s why it’s a masterpiece. Leslie Caron is still with us, amazingly, now aged 91.

Can you just imagine the early morning rehearsals in preparation all of those dance scenes?

Oh I know! Look at the dance off in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”! Rita Moreno even said that doing dance rehearsals for West Side Story “ wore the hell out of her”

This movie won best picture on the basis of just this scene. The rest of the movie was boring.

I will say that the plot nowadays is somewhat problematic with the behaviour between Gene Kelly's character towards Cyd Charisse's, the music is nice though.

@@66smithra I'll clarify and say that it's specifically the way that Jerry pursued Lise early on the film, it comes off as something close to stalking behavior and it's a bit uncomfortable in that portion of the film, the way he pursues her despite her clearly asking him to leave her alone multiple times. For comparison in Singing in the Rain when Don tried to woo Cathy in her car she sticks up for herself and not only turns the table on him but embarrasses him and makes him reconsider his behavior, making their re-encounter later on have a wholly different dynamic.

@@Aeonterbor come on. It’s a rated G classic movie and it really offends you? Oy vey. If he just left her alone then there would have been no movie. Good grief. It’s fiction.

In 'That's Entertainment!' this ballet was cut to pieces. I'm grateful to see four and a half minutes of it but the piece is just butchered.

Indeed the full version can't be missed but at least this serves as a nice condensed highlights version.

Well this had to fit in the context of a whole documentary. So if you want the whole thing you can watch the movie.

@@emerybayblues Documentary or not, I believe they could have put the entire thing into it and not many would have complained. I do remember seeing 'That's Entertainment!' in the theater in 1974 when I was eight. Made an MGM monster out of me. It was another three years before I saw 'American in Paris', also in a theater. I had indulgent parents, thank goodness.

@@kennethwayne6857 They did at the very least include "Singing In The Rain" in full, that was the one number they couldn't possibly cut up.

@@Aeonterbor I remember they cut off the end of 'Over the Rainbow'. Sacrilege! They at least included the final bit in "That's Entertainment III". Better late than never.
