A few more behind the scenes of DD speedshop fun! Anyone who has ever done and I mean Done a restoration with aftermarket parts would know the struggles you have experienced with the Camaro . Just wonder how many critics “ have ever even tried to do a restoration ! Just remember it is still just steel . It can be cut reshaped and rewelded to get the desired results. Keep up the good work Dan

All you can do is your best with what you have to work with and Dan has done that time and time again! No panel is going to fit every car perfectly. Plus that car was stuffed in the rear, which might account for it's poor fitment since someone was already working back there previously to Dan's acquiring the car. Especially since the other areas seem to fit decently. Keep up the great work Dan, I can't wait for winter to be over so I can use what I've learned here on my own project.

Some useful info for anyone From most of your garage door companies you can get a New Seal for under the door and one for the floor that will stop the draft's from an uneven concrete floor normally for under $100 and the install is super easy if you can read a tape measure and operate basic hand tools. The one for the on top of the floor is a glue down rubber seal that has a double hump head shape I have installed these for guys that have done burnouts out of the garage in the past and a few decided to not glue them in and remove them when the weather gets better. In your situation I'd recommend no glue and also replacing the seal around the door if you do that the money saved from running your furnace over one winter keeping that baught air in will pay for the new seals. I'll make it easy for anyone pull all the seals out of your car doors drive it around in the middle of winter and you will get to understand the reality of why you want them reinstalled. I know you think oh well they are already installed but the truth is everything where's out and seals become brittle being exposed to the elements causing a weak barrier sealing loosely allowing heat loss and ultimately money to slide right thru the gaps. This is great for anyone who actually uses their garage during the winter and finds themselves gravitating closer to the heat source to remain in their garage. Cheap and yet easy enough even Danielle can do it in a few hours without help.

I've watched other videos of ill fitting panels, and the experienced welder just I suppose has to accept this. I myself only aspire to do panels someday, where I even look around for a project car or especially truck that might need floor pans and even cab repairs, but right now I don't even have but a driveway,..now that would make some great videos of driveway only sheetmetal repairs,...I've done patching before with a mig welder(lincoln sp100) in a driveway, I might even have a garage or shop in the next two years. I have not read any comments extensively, but obviously nothing is more aggravating than critics.

Well, that's the problem with aftermarket panels anymore. The panels don't fit right. I bought brand new doors from my truck. One wonder if it okay, I'm the bottom half. I had to section the top half the door on the other side. I had to take in the top half. Of the door fit and I had to section the bottom half the door

All that re pop stuff always needs a bit of tweaking to make it fit. I found out with all my trim on my 57 especially fins and spears did not fit properly. I ended up repairing my original trims and repolishing them. Even redid my original bars. Quality is not the same as well.

Yeah old cars were far from perfect. 20 years ago I was redoing my dad's old 60 Chevy belair race car that had been sitting since 1972, the suspension brackets were tearing off the housing from being raced, literally you could see inside the housing. If my dad had raced it one more time it may have been catastrophic. So at the time i worked for Currie rear ends. And in the backyard was literally a mountains of rear ends. The boss told me since the brackets themselves weren't damaged he would trade me, but I had to go crawl on the mountain to find one myself. Well I went through 6 housings before I said that's close enough, some the brackets were 3/4" narrower spread, some were 3/4" wider spread. I finally settled on some that were about 1/2" off from my original. That was the closest I could find and I didn't feel like climbing the mountain for another one that was going to be just as off. Factory assembly was ... Ehh close enough. No where near perfect!

That welding on the passenger side that looks ok was done on a Wednesday, the ones on the driver's side done on Monday morning after one hell of a drunk... Yeah ,everything was analog and manual, no digital, CNC machines.Vacume tubes and no pcs..Computers were the size of a house... If you got a car made on Tuesday, Wednesday, you got "Quality" .Monday people are hungover and worn out, Thursday people are waiting for Friday, and Friday everyone is hurrying to get home and party,or be with the family, doing family things...Day dreaming.... QUALITY Control was doing the same thing... Today everything is programmed, checked with lasers for Tolerances.... Your quarter panel was probably a cull .Sometimes they get through... You'll fix it ,show everyone else who gets,a quater panel in that shape, how to fix it and the world will be a better place. God Bless you and your loved ones GODSPEED

It has been in probably multiple accidents and any body shop would have put this car on a frame rack and given up before the first patch panel was put next to the car. Dan I saw this same thing on Dodge Charger I actually think the same side was off and they were AMD sheet metal. Where did the dies for sheet metal I could be on purpose because that is the dies the get to stamp the quarters and trunk metal being a little short. Dan I have confidence that you can make it right with extra video. Not to drop names but ChrisBirdsong would say you have to measure everything to fit it and know the measurements. The good thing is there is sheet metal to work with. You used to have to have a donor car to cut up to make one good car have a good day

First off, no panels are made in the US for these cars. Second, all panels need work, even NOS panels dont fit out of the box. As far as 1st gen fbodys, most of the aftermarket panels fit like crap. No where near as good as chevelles etc. But the best fitting full quarters for 1st gen fbody are AMD PREMIUM full quarters. They are about twice as expensive as their regular full quarters. The seem to fit decent, the lines are crisp etc. Around the tail panel they still fit like crap IMO and massage work around the trunk gutter and deck lid with a big ass hammer and a block of wood WILL be necessary. That being said, man the crap we had 20 years ago was way worse. I got a 68 nove I put tail panel, trunk floor, quarter skins, deck filler etc from goodmark back then. Nothing fit, all the lines are soft. Etc. I would mind totally redoing the car again some day. Our stuff is much better now.
