To be honest, I was always taught on the up and under growing up that I had to go off of 2 feet, not 1 or it is a travel. This guy is clearly older, and I'm 28 so we probably grew up learning that same thing. This 1 foot step through definitely been getting way more popular/common the last 5-7 years and definitely looks iffy a lot, but its clean
@tesfahailu10002 жыл бұрын
yeah, it's just ignorance. nobody actually looks at the rules, they just regurgitate what they heard from someone else. it says in the rule book you can lift your pivot but you must pass or shot afterwards. it's the reason you can take two steps when your running the fast break before passing or laying the ball up. the first step is the pivot, which you lift after taking the second step

Can't really tell who you are talking about. The only argument for travel or no travel from Cel is THAT'S LEGAL! The rules say once your pivot foot has been established you may jump off that pivot foot but the ball has to be released before either foot his the ground. Clearly, TJ jumped off the pivot and landed on the other foot before the ball is released and that's a travel. All NBA players and examples will have the pivot foot and the step through foot both on the ground before the final jump or in most NBA cases, close enough.

Here's why some people think this is a travel. Their thought is that once the pivot is established you then have to jump off of either the pivot or off both. Travel ART. 3 . . . After coming to a stop and establishing a pivot foot: (1)The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the floor, before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal. (2)If the player jumps, neither foot may be returned to the floor before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal. The number 2 is what got him because although the pivot can be raised neither feet can touch the ground before a shot was released for a try for goal.

I know LOTS of people who called me on the exact same move step-through. I had to straight leave it out my game. LOTS of people are taught that on step-through specifically, you have to jump off BOTH feet at same time. If pivot comes up while the 2nd foot is down and used to stride forward, it's called travel. Refs will call that a lot in highschool and college. Of course NBA let's stars do it all day long. It's not a question of skill either. Anyone with basic bball skills can do that, and if you're allowed to do that with such a long stride on 2nd foot then everyone would SCORE every time on that. slow down and watch college ball. you do NOT actually see it in officiated NCAA games. THey step through onto 2nd foot then JUMP off BOTH feet. So there is FAR LESS advantage.
