I know Joseph keeps opening pure gas, but I appreciate how he's really technically-minded and wants to talk about strategy/lines after the game. Hearing someone in this series say "yeah if you made this guy/negated this effect, I was cooked" instead of bragging/downplaying is refreshing, because it touches on a higher appeal of YGO: looking at both hands and figuring out who's in a better position. Mutual puzzle solving. EDIT: and stuff like telling Gage the right hit on Dragged Down to the Grave. It just makes for better content when both decks are playing "properly", and know what the important cards are.

THANK YOU yess I 100% agree, glad to see someone made comment like this I love them all, but we needed someone like MBT, that doesnt neccessarily tryhard, but does put some effort rather than zone out for 5 minutes and then look at their hand and go "oh I actually made a mistake" him making that yang zing miss timing was more focuse on game than entirety of the last season combined (if we exclude farfas methodical dismantling of Gages gate guardian TCBOO board)

@@nbassasin8092 MBT said it best, the reason he wins in Roulette and sealed a lot isn’t because Doug is a bad player, it’s because he has a keen understanding of nearly every Yugioh card and what cards are good in sealed environments, as well as experience in sealed that most other players don’t.

@@Endershock1678 I used to agree with that (and still believe that WAS the truth), but tbf, that was mostly meant to be justification for their pack choices and deckbuilding (and it still is, although Doug made amazing improvements in both departments) but that cant justify reckless and bad playing that is simply lack of concentration and not lack of skill, if you realise better play 10 seconds after you made the worse one, it wasnt your lack of skill but lack of effort that was the problem

I’ve done that (I once lost a sealed tournament by misreading literally every Gagaga effect in my deck), MBT has done that tons of times, Farfa does it a ton of times, and Gage does it all the time, albeit probably the least because he spends a long time thinking of lines. Doug said it before, but you’re not gonna read all your cards over and over again if you think you know what they do, but if you’re not comfortable with cards, you aren’t going to know your lines until after you do the wrong one. Ritual Beast humbled me a lot in this regard. I thought i was good until I spend 30 seconds thinking, then immediately go “wait”. It also wasn’t MBT’s justification for Doug’s deck building and pack choices at all. It was in direct callout to people saying Doug misplays in Roulette and Saga. It was a direct response to people clowning on Doug for not knowing what his cards do. I also feel personally while Doug could take more time thinking out lines, he has the experience and skill as a player to do so, he doesn’t because he doesn’t want to waste people’s time on his mostly casual series.

I mean, we make fun of Gage for taking a long time to make plays, but there’s a reason he plays slow, he misplays because he isn’t good enough at the game to know the lines in his head. Doug and Farfa meanwhile are better players who lose by rushing and not considering their options/misreading their cards.

As luck based as yugioh sometimes is, I love that one MBT rant about how, much more often there were mistakes you made that cost you the game, and not your oppnent outdrawing and outlucking you Gage does put the most effort in though, and I do applaud and respect him for that, even when he misplays its mostly because he overlooked something or just lacks the experience, not because he clicked the glowing button or didnt stop to think, on that I do agree

Tri-Brigade is a bit questionable without a craft. Without Shureig, the deck has no real payoff, while Spriggans, he already pulled Exblowrer and sorta has a OPT pop with Sargas. If his ED had better link monsters, I think there’s an argument for Tri Brigade, but he really doesn’t.

I mean if they’re actually trying to win we are going to get at least a lot of the same packs. The fun is more in what they end up pulling and the ways they have to jank the decks together and the ways playing offbeat decks against each other can interact. I really don’t get the crowd of people that watch these fun series, that are basically friends finding an excuse to play yugioh while hanging out and bantering, and constantly question why they aren’t doing something x or y way instead of the way they’re doing it. There are plenty of other very similar series you can watch where they are made to play against each other with bad decks if that’s what you wanna see.
