Unlike Ken Loach, Shane is actually from the class background that he's so fond of depicting. I think one can see the difference when watching their respective films.

One of my favourite films of all time. It's a shame how unknown it is. I wonder what happened to Morrell after the film. Maybe he went back to his lonely life, maybe he attached himself to another family, only to repeat his grim actions.

Maybe he got arrested for assaulting that guy and did some time

Probably my favourite Shane Meadows film, it's at least a close run with Dead Man Shoes and This is England. I can totally understand why many film goers and critics were probably not on board with this film when it was released as when you look at the trailer for the film, it feels like a coming of age comedy with two young lads and a eccentric older lad getting into hijinks. The film is definitely not that, it's a darker more human film with a excellent and probably career best performance from underrated Paddy Considine. A film deserving of repeated viewings and shows why Meadows is one of the best British Directors today, his TV work like This is England series and The Virtues have been excellent but I'm really hoping to see him get back into making feature films again. Even little seen films he's done like Somers Town, Small Time and Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee are well worth checking out. Even his weakest film Once Upon a Time in The Midlands is pretty good.
