I have the time to study this a little better...you nailed it for sure. I LOVE this lick! Thanks a bunch for the great lesson....there's a ton of licks in there you can use in many other tunes....baddass! You gonna get to the rest of the leads? Great stuff....I especially love the two guitar harmonics near the end. I've always said...I'll listen to anything...so long as it's Lynyrd Skynyrd! hehe Lexington Lab Band rocks this tune big time!

Thanks Bob. I appreciate it. And I agree that it sure would've been nice to hear more of what was to come from Steve Gaines. He had that ability to use the same simple notes as everyone else and to make them sound unique and inspired. Had he not died then I suspect he'd be on a number of TOP lists.

Best to stay away from pedals on this. If you must, use a little reverb ... and maybe just a little compression. Do your best to make it sound okay with just amp and fingers. (Sure, put some gain on the amp)

Thanks Tom. Hmm, the "shreddy" stuff isn't really my style, but I'll give it another listen and see if I can whip something up. Tommy Emanuel's Christmas ... that's more my style ... though Tommy's playing is beyond my reach, his Christmas playing is relatively subdued ... good food for thought with the Christmas music! Thanks!!
@tomacosta857 жыл бұрын
Most of his shred is very bluesy. I have noodled with a lot of it over the years. 12 days of x mas carol of bells Mr.grinch and feliz navidad. I'm mostly jam them rather than pay attention to detail like you do on the main melodies. Odd, for as cool as they are, I couldn't find any lessons on them. You can shred with the best of them. Your lesson on call me the breeze is stellar.

@AngelMartinez-qs3cf7 жыл бұрын
Super Cool Mark, as always!! Great! Is that an American Strat?
@MarkZabel7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Angel. It's not an American Strat. It's a G&L Tribute Legacy. A few years back, the local store had a hard time moving it. I think people didn't like the color (which I like). The neck is a bit wider and flatter (12" radius) than a regular Strat, which I like also. Great guitar. Very solid. Nice sounding pickups. Terrific 2-point tremolo. Well-balanced. For me, it's probably the closest I'll come to liking a Strat. I just have a hard time making Strats do what I want. They're great guitars, of course, but they're just not me. I used to have a beautiful 1985 American Standard Stratocaster - Candy Apple Red, maple fretboard. I got rid of it, because we didn't play well together. It's a shame, but it's true.
@AngelMartinez-qs3cf7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am going to look into getting one. Have you ever tried a G & L with the HSS configuration?
@Eric-ok2rx4 жыл бұрын
solo lesson is great as usual, but can you share the specs on THAT TONE! sounds killer Mark! I didn't know it was possible to get a better Strat tone than Gaines until now. what's the amp/effects loop on that look like? tell us more than just position 2 and more treble :)
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric. I don't think there was much to it. Classic amp like Fender Twin or Princeton Reverb, tiny amount of reverb and compression, and the key ingredient; position 2 on the Strat. (bridge + middle = "quack"!) I'm using a BlackStar ID:Core emulating the Fender amp. You want to adjust the gain so that you get just a tiny amount of breakup. Hope that helps!
