I used to lie like this when I was about 16. I just lied about everything, for no reason at all. It wasn’t until I met one of my friends, and she just laid it all on me and was like “WHY?”. And much like your dude, I tried to deny it. Until I realized how TIRED I was from the anxiety of someone figuring out that I was lying. So I told her the truth, started to go to therapy, apologized to anyone I’d lied to and told them the truth, and moved on. I’ve vowed since then to be honest and I’ve stuck by that. My friend who called me out is no longer my friend because she said she couldn’t trust me, and I completely agree with her, especially back then. I’m just so thankful that she had the guts to say something cause I wouldn’t be the honest and functional person I am today. So even if it was a shitty situation for you, I’m glad that you called him out because it might have helped him come to terms with his issues. Or at least I hope it did

Brandilon Durham same with me, when i was a few years younger i was sort of like a compulsive liar, there were points where i actually didn’t even realize i was lying until i after i had lied cause i had become so used to not telling the truth. being confronted and going to therapy helped but i still have to put in a conscious effort to be 100% honest.

Edward I had a HS friend who did the EXACT same thing, lied about knowing and meeting Kpop stars, forged autographs, etc. She lied about being like 5 different ethnicities, being born in like 3 countries, being a twin, being adopted, etc. it’s so scary!!! I can’t believe people like that exist

Something similar happened to me, I used to have an internet friend that I met on instagram through my other friend. She used to tell me about going to kpop fan meetings, kcon, concerts etc. It got to the point where she said shes moving to Korea to study Korean and shit like that and I was like okay.. pretty normal. But several months went by and I didnt hear from her until it got to August.. (i didnt hear from her for about 4+ months) She dm'ed me saying "Hey ..sorry I was in a car accident and ended up in a coma, im so so so sorry i didnt tell you" and I was like feeling so bad for her, she also told me that she ended up in a car accident on the way to Korea? But I dont get how she could drive all the way from America to Korea? At this point I was suspicious so I asked my friend who got me to know this person, "Hey has ______ been texting you recently?" And she said yes. So I asked her when, and she said "Shes been texting me for ages, for weeks, why?" So I said nothing to her, finally i just blocked the girl and never heard off her again

Dude same. I’m still friends with the person but whenever the topic of ethnicity or dating comes up I get really irritated. She said back in 2015 that she was part Japanese when we were really into anime and I think last year she said she was part Korean when she started getting into kpop again. There was this one time in like 2015-16 she said she was dating this one very popular cosplayer and I reached out to that person and they told me that they never dated or even heard of her. He contacted her and she was texting me that she was shocked and crying because he was mad at her for making up lies about them dating.
