@@mizzkaykay93 He only admitted it to Hakeem because he was outed by Moesha. To be real, there was no indication that Omar and Tracy had any romantic involvement. Yes, he turned out to be gay but the only reason Moesha even made those assumptions is because he had a gay friend.

The worse thing about Moesha's behavior in this episode is that it taught many young Black viewers how they should respond to gay/bi Black men negatively and with suspicion. Even after Dee told her she fucked up Mo never tried to correct her actions.

@@nicolemoore04 ultimately it didn't though. Moesha saw no legitimate consequence for her destructive actions. Towards the end of the episode when Moesha reads her poem it makes it clear that your meant to empathize more with Mo than Hakeem's cousin. It switches gears back to Mo focusing on her own embarrassment for being attracted to a queer dude rather than show her being genuinely remorseful for her actions. It ends on a " I told you so/I knew it" note rather than a " Mind your own business " note
@nicolemoore04
@nicolemoore04 Жыл бұрын
@@giancarlojacobs9982 I think her apology was her remorse, she understood she shouldn't have said anything but she wasn't wrong about him either, during that time nobody really talked about homosexuality as far as respecting or accepting others. Teenagers were clueless. But the biggest message that teens should've been able to take from it was mind your business if someone is gay.
@giancarlojacobs9982
@giancarlojacobs9982 Жыл бұрын
@@nicolemoore04 True that conversations around gay acceptance weren't commonplace back then (Especially within the Black community). And Mo did show remorse with her apology but then completely nullified it at the end with her passive aggressive " I know what I know" poem. By the end of the episode the moral of the story focuses less on Mo minding her own business and more on her suspicions being confirmed via her outing a gay dude who had done her no harm.

@1talldaddy yeah, it sucks...back before the Obama era (acceptance and progressive LGBT rights) ppl have to understand that being gay was a social no no in society. I'm not feminine or flamboyant...and any gay or fem tendencies I had, we're suppressed. I played football, I lift weights, I can change oil and do all the "masculine" things but lived a lie because deep down I know the world wouldn't love me of I told them who I really am. I take great pride in LGBT ppl who are out and proud, mostly young 20 somethings...glad their living in their truth even with so much opposition in the post Trump era...but there are many of us still "stuck in the 90s" mentality. I know I can be out and proud now...but ppl like Moesha has eliminated trust...this is why many gay black men are DL...and struggle with substance abuse...they just feel to gay and less than a man...great job to the writers...Moesha captures reality and holds up to the test of time...because at the end of the day...most black ppl don't like homosexuality no matter how progressive the world is or not

Moesha really tried it this episode and showed her entire behind, She know Kim and Niecy are the town gossips she is not fooling anybody she was just trying to use them to deflect and not take any real accountability for her actions. Plus this episode should that she had an ego about herself because she wants to be the smartest person in the room. Omar deserved an apology from her because she forced him out the closet. And don't get me started on the episode on how she started Blacks Vs. Brown Beef.

Even though the rumor surrounding Omar's sexuality turned out to be true, Mo only assumed that Omar was gay all because she went out to dinner with him and witnessed him reunite with an old friend who happened to be gay. Mo took what she saw and ran with it and thought by telling Kim and Niecy, who are known gossipers, that her rumor about Omar would be kept under wraps, only for the rumor to be spread around school. Moesha only started to feel bad once Hakeem gave her the silent treatment (which I don't blame him for doing). She definitely knew she was in the wrong BIG TIME when Dee gave her a reality check. And the only reason why Omar was forced to come out was thanks to being outed by Mo. I don't dislike Moesha and there were a few episodes in this series that had me give her the side-eye, but this episode Labels takes the cake.

Great job once again! Mo never learned how to mind her business, she always wanted to be in some type of mix. Her action’s definitely caught up with her when they needed too. Wonder if a whole season review would a lot to think about? Especially the transition of Q to the private school Bridgewood, she WILDED 😂

Kim & Neicy irk me this episode as well. Mo was wrong, but they were just as wrong if not more for telling everybody something THEY themselves didn't know to be true. They took no accountability for outing him cuz "that's just how we are". No maam! Be better than that.

Y'all notice in the show it was always hinted that Moesha was very disliked by her fellow classmates? And sometimes they would meet her and say "I heard you mean" we were just young and loved Brandy and didn't want to believe she really was a bitch.

Omar was definitely gay and we can infer that by the many keys that were shown to us, and while Moe's advice of "living your truth" to Omar was true, I'll give her that. She still messed up by asserting herself and spreading the gossip because truly it was never her own business.

That's entirely different, she should've never said anything to Kim or Niecy but it wasn't her fault it got out, it was theirs. Now having someone purposely mess up your food order & someone else start a fight because you're dating outside your race is something to throw a fit over

I am super glad someone is talking about Moesha and this episode. Moesha has this super righteous attitude when she really needs to step outside of herself and see certain things for what they are. The world isn't as simple as black and white. This episode should've opened up more about the LGBTQ and it should expand her views on life and yet she still chose to be close minded. That's what happened in a lot of episodes and I wish they would've been able to address that more with the parents.

I don’t think people get how (!) „sensational“ these mini gay elements in 90s shows actually were. It was all we got back then. Moesha portrays the general audience at the time: being clueless, having zero understanding for gays and simply being weird about it. That’s how the audience back then was supposed to learn about this stuff

Looking back at Moesha, her mental health was in crisis because her mother passed away and she took her anger out on everyone instead of taking the time to grieve. Then as she was dating boys and advancing in school, she had problems dealing with her own insecurities and peer pressure. Moesha could dish out the shade and blunt truth but she could never turn a mirror on herself and accept that she had flaws.

Moesha did come off as a hater and very jealous at times, but in the episode I feel that Moesha did what any teenager would do. If I went out on a date and I thought they were gay, I would tell my friends in confidence naturally because friends talk. Kim and Niecy were wrong for spreading the rumor, but I don’t think Moesha had ill intent.

Sis when I tell you that every time you post a new video it's like opening a gift on Christmas! You're definitely the wiser big sister that everyone needs! Anyway, this episode definitely hit home for me. I live my life as a transgender woman now, but when i was growing up I was like Tracey: everybody could see I was gay because I was feminine. i went to school in the 2000s and even then being gay was NOT cool or accepted by most people, so I can just imagine what it would have been like in the 90's. Moesha could have gotten that boy beat up or, at the very least, completely ruined his reputation and his life by running her mouth. She should have kept her suspicions to herself because she was most definitely playing with fire. You said it right in the video: it should have been common sense not to do that.

@@forthenostalgia based on my personal experiences back in the day, it isn't even a shock to me that that was enough to convince Moesha. I call those days the "no homo" era 🤣🤣 I remember back in the day a lot of people were hyper sensitive about anything that could even slightly indicate that a man might be gay or anything close to it. I watched a video where T.S. Madison was talking about men who are so paranoid about doing anything that could be seen as gay that they won't even wash between their 🍑. I know where I grew up, if a straight man had a gay friend that would be seen as suspect and people would automatically start to talk about them. Which is just the most backwards, crazy thing to me, like people aren't allowed to get to know people who are different from them?? But that's just how it was, and hopefully that is changing nowadays, but it's just crazy to me that someone as smart as Moesha was supposed to be wouldn't even question that mentality. It's like the thought that they might be friends didn't even occur to her. Just a conclusion-jumping mess 😂 I hope she learned her lesson!

Here is my opinion on this, I feel that the show, or at most the show's creators were more on Moesha's side. In other words, I didn't get the feeling that what she did was bad, but rather the show made me feel that Omar was wrong for being gay. Moesha is never punished for her actions, yes she gets talked at but honestly, she didnt try to make anything right and she gets a lecture almost every other episode. However, Omar, is the real victim in this episode! He gets outed for his sexuality, which then ruins his relationships that he had, especially with his cousin. The girls gossiping his puts him in a line of danger because gay black men are discriminated by both sides, including black people. Its all wrapped up in a cometic joke, rather than looks at the facts that Omar could get jumped and killed and I wished that the episode did explain the dangers of outing someone. But instead, it makes Moesha's actions looks small and meaningless. They should have had a scene where Omar was attacked, or maybe had Omar and Q have a heart to heart, instead of encouraging this toxic narrative that gay black men are dangerous. Because once its out that he's gay, I notice that everyone seems to stop talking to him and try to avoid him. This to me is telling me that the show wanted us as the viewers to not pity Omar, but rather avoid him and men like him
