@@zacktaylor8178 Sorry, I should have given more context to my comment. I was active in London during the birth of dubstep (from the birth of dark garage tbh which gave rise to dubstep) so seeing this sort of hyper Brostep at EDM mega gigs is a bit hard to stomach. Skrilkex is a great producer and has done some cool stuff recently but this brostep era was really bad and honestly it’s events like these that have turned underground dance scenes into the Las Vegas / Instagram model shows they are today. But basically you’re right, snarky comments are lame and unnecessary but I stand by the fact that this era of dubstep sucked! His DJ name is wicked tho can’t lie!

I completely understand the hate that this genre gets, but being in a crowd like that or even DJing to a crowd of just 100 or so people who are fucking stoked on that style is one of the most fun and exhilarating things I've ever experienced, with or without drugs. I'm glad that I was in my early 20s when this type of energetic music was such a widespread phenomenon. I was right in the sweet spot. Personally, I think Jack U playing 'New Years Rockin Eve' is when this type of music jumped the shark. I was into the tracks they were playing but it came across so corny via TV. Shortly after that, EDM started shifting back toward house music and mainstream pop/rap got way into muffled sad trap beats.

Bro the fact people still try to knock Skrillex a decade after he did this kind of EDM is just insane... Someone doesn't go from being adopted, then being a homeless musician to winning a Grammy by doing no real work and mixing shitty music. You can complain all you want about said music and about how it's made like everyone else always has. I just had to bring up the fact that he didn't get where he was by being weird and pressing buttons. Sometimes a guy grows up on music and decides he wants to turn it on it's head, and sometimes that guy gets blessed with success. If he wasn't special, you wouldn't be complaining. This is just a clip of Skrillex's mic falling over a little on beat. Nobody's worshipping him, (i think...) so please don't turn this place into a Burial forum time capsule. Thanks lol

I'm more of a psytrance kind of person due to my love of good melodies. When dubstep first became popular i predicted the hype surrounding this genre wouldn't last as long as the trance/psytrance, d&b, jungle, house and techno scenes that came before due to the lack of decent melody, and i was right. That said, i think in that moment Dubstep served it's purpose and added something fresh to the electronic scene, even if the ride was short lived, it's just a shame the genre didn't evolve in a manner that ensured it's longevity, robot farts and bass drops get old fast that's for sure, by the end of it's popularity, i was sick of it's simplicity. Anyway, I'm kind of interested to see what the future holds in regard to the next electronic phenomenon.
