Really. Watching the episode, I thought his character came off kind of pompous and douchey. Like he was the normie of the group, capitalizing on and appropriating the culture of the sideshow more than he was actually part of it. See, I saw Lanny as very human, reacting to the grief of his brother rejecting him. His alcohol issue isn't "freakish" - it's what many people do when rejected by someone they love. I also found Dr Blockhead to be... not so much a jerk but in character? His little moments of critique like at the end are "real Blockhead" IMO and his more swaggery moments are stage persona. I don't think it's a perfect episode by any means, but it's always been a favourite because the overall message I walked away with in the 90s was an underlying respect and kindness and an endorsement for the autonomy of sideshow performers, as well as embracing uniqueness. If written today, I feel like it would be better informed, but 90s, Fox.... we know the execs shaped this to the "oooh, freaks" they wanted (eg Conundrum). (I also have BDD so it definitely speaks to me on that level too!)

If it's strange you want, Darin Morgan (this episode's writer) and Vince Gilligan wrote the most bizarre and unusual episodes, so you could look into their stuff. I HATED Carnival!! ... mostly because it was so good and has such a cliffhanger ending that never got wrapped up... Seriously though - that show was the straw that broke the camels back and had me swear off getting into new TV shows for a while (for fear of them getting cancelled before ending properly).

I've loved your channel forever and am SO HAPPY you are doing some X-Files stuff! This was a great companion video to my current yearly rewatching of the entire series. Since you asked for folks to mention which episodes they find particularly ludicrous, how about Season 3, Episode 13: Syzygy? It's one of my personal favorite of the more goofy episodes. "HATE HIM, WOULDN'T WANNA DATE HIM!" Thanks again for your work!

My favorite episode of the entire series. It's oddly sentimental for a variation on Basket Case. The expo was cool, wasn't it? I felt so spoiled getting to walk back and forth between it and PRGE. Someday, I'll get to have con fun again. Someday....

If there's an episode I think deserves to be covered, it's Field Trip. That episode is absolutely wild. One of my favorites, by far, due to just how out there it gets. I think the big reason I feel it needs to be covered is because it's often glossed over. It's never in a top anything list, it's not usually talked about, but it's legit one of the best season 6 episodes.

The quasi-conjoined twin really reminded me of the baby from the end of Creepazoids. If you haven't seen it I dont know for sure if I can recommend it (it is an 80s Fulp Moon flick for all that entails) but the ending is something to behold. The protagonist is stalked by the demonic baby and attacked... only for the protagonist to just throw it across the room. Because demonic baby is still baby. This repeats itself and it is kinda hilarious.

Very yes to this coverage 🤘🏻 I'd suggest you look into: 'MTv's Oddities' - an awesome show from back in the 90's with a broad cast og 'freaks, geeks and mind-bending stories' Also, Chris Carter created another gem, 'Millennium' with Lance Henriksen as a police consultant with supernatural abilities - he has the 'curse' to be able to see and feeling what killers experience during the act of Murder

My husband and I just started re-watching the series from the beginning. (He’s never seen the show, and I grew up watching every episode from the day it first aired.) We’re coming up on “Ice”, and I can’t wait to get his reaction to it. (He’s only recently watched The Thing for the first time, too.) It’s one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. What are some of yours?

I'd love to see more X-Files from you. It feels like a natural expansion of your channel. Also, I think it would be interesting to hear your reaction to the episode "Home." It may perhaps be the most...out there episode of the series, at least prior to its original cancellation.

Great episodes: I loved the one with Tony Shaloub and his shadow powers, the one with Will Sasso and the genie trapped in a rug, and the one about the creature that becomes your greatest fear in "X-Cops" (a sort-of crossover).

I remember this episode! I never saw it BUT, it was one of three X-Files books I got at the school book fairs as a kid! I don't know if it got translated to TV, but I liked how there was a bit of a role reversal in the book, with Mulder convinced nothing weird was going on but Scully kept pushing to investigate further. Also, yes, you are correct on why the little brother kept trying to find new hosts; it says in the book that he could tell his big brother was dying of alcohol poisoning.
