The OVA was finally dubbed! And it was great to hear everyone's voices again! I felt nostalgic! The OVA was great over all! I enjoyed it!

I was amazed that most of the voices hadn't changed much over the years. Botan and Koenma were noticeably different sounding but everyone else sounded spot on. The OVA also felt like it was a gift to the fans rather than a cash grab that other anime are suffering from.

I think the art style perfectly captures the 90s esthetic with modern more fluid animation, I also like that unlike most anime nowadays there are heavy uses of shadows like in the original. The lack of atmosphere and shadows in modern anime has urked me for a long time.

Yu Yu Hakusho was my first anime. It's what got me into anime and well....fighting or martial arts. That dark tournament was something special, especially for the time. it's truly one of the all time greats in my opinion.

I wish this OVA had covered the whole final arc of the manga. Alot of wholesome stuff there, and it was nice to see how the various people Yusuke and the gang met were going about their lives. Makes the second OVA seem without context.

And the final mission aftermath is much different than the beach stuff in the final episode of the anime. The manga ending of Yuu Yuu Hakusho still is my favorite ending for a shonen manga alongside Shaman king.

As great as the original anime was, it was a mistake for them to cut the final arc completely. It wasn’t very long, but it serves as a much better bookend to the series than the demon king arc, which already had its fair share of issues.

Thanks for covering these. As for the backstory of Kurama and Hiei vs the face demon and such, I'm positive this is adapted from a regular chapter in the original series run. I don't remember which chapter or when (I'm a lot of help I know) but I definitely remember reading this story in the manga

I saw it this friday. Absolutely. Perfect. All the original voice actors, the original except of course a bit more sharpened music, takes place towards the end so they can use their Max powers, it's perfect.

It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, it's the same as in the manga but almost all videos you can find of it cut the ending off, he says he picks the button based on Keiko favorite color and they meet at the beach again. I've only been able to find one video on YT that doesn't cut it off.

I watched this anime when it first came out and watched it sooooooooooo much as a kid. Now.... over 30 years later... i got married had 3 kids of my own and now i watch it with them!! 😂 was one of the best animes of my life! Hope others get as much enjoyment out of the series as I have over the years and honestly i have never even heard of the OVA!

Started watching Yu Yu Hakusho at the age of 10 or 11. I use to sneak and stay up late just to watch it. I never got to finish the show as a kid so I finished it when I was like 20 maybe 22 years old. Now at 31 I was able to watch the OVAs and I just wanted to cry watching it. I grew up watching this show one of my first ever anime’s. I felt so much nostalgia watching it. I really wish there was more but imma take what I can get and be grateful. They were great and I’m happy they didn’t add CGI and kept the character aesthetic the same. 🫶🏾❤️

I find it interesting that even though funimation calls Hiei's dragon "Dragon of the Darkness Flame" in the dub, now the sub version in the OVA calls it by the exact name. . .ironic (probably because Dragon of the Darkness Flame sounds better than the original name in the sub and original manga lol) Also, second YYH movie NEEDS to be dubbed by funimation

I really liked the OVA's even though thought it was short. It never feelt like they were milking it, and seeing the gang back together it always a blast. I really like the idea of the spirt world being a totalitarian state type deal,and we can see some bread crumbs of that through the series, culminating in Koema taking over the reign from his father at the end of the series. Wish Togshi had more time to flesh things out.

I don't get it. The ova references the first kiss at the end of the anime at the beach but it also adapts manga elements such as Atsuko knowing Yusuke is spirit detective, Genkai being able to communicate through Puu because in the manga she dies, but we get the scene at the beach like in the original anime but in the ova Yusuke doesn't appear but in the original anime he does.
