That was not the voice I expected to come out of that body. This is the most shocked I have been at the first time hearing an artist that I can remember. A very unique country artist named Colter Wall and his song The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie. Definitely not the cookie cutter approach. Great song retelling the legend of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the Devil at The Crossroads. Legend is that The Crossroad are in the North Mississippi Delta area. The 61 he refers to is Highway 61 that runs from Memphis to New Orleans. It’s also called The Blues Trail.

I could easily hear Johnny Cash sing this song. The simplicity of the guitar picking with the minimal drum to keep time, you can picture him sitting AT the crossroads while singing this.

The Series 10 Cadillac referenced was a real but short lived car produced from 1934 to 1935. Assuming the Devil doesn't drive a used car, this puts timeframe of the story just a year before Robert Johnson's first known recording session in 1936.

I haven't looked into Colter Wall having just heard of him recently. Looks like he is doing a little Red Dirt tour well he's following similar tours to what a lot of red dirt artists do. Even though a lot of Red Dirt artists can just tour Texas and build a nice life and career for themselves. He isn't a red dirt artist though, he could succeed on the circuit pretty easily. Texas even has their own billboard for little independent/ local country scene. Colter style is Country Blues/Folk. It's pretty amazing for a Canadian. Pretty amazing artist in general. I have sung my entire life. Country, Rock, and Metal. I love everything about this dude's sound. He's playing 45 miles from me on Feb 16th.

Harmonica player Adam Gussow has a really nice one man band version of Crossroad Blues. I've always love the crossroads blues mythology. I've actually got my own song in that genre, a sort of harmonica oriented retelling of it from the devil's perspective. The harp player wins, and gets the devil sings, "He demanded my whole kingdom, and a harp of gold... but I got me the recording rights... that's why this job never gets old". :)

There is also a documentary about Robert Johnson on netflix if you haven't seen it yet. Gives a great view about his life and how he lost his life before he really got famous. I really enjoyed it. Great video :)

Ever heard of Homefree? Their cover of "man of constant sorrow" was the first thing I heard from them. They're an acapella group and their bass singer's voice is unreal sounding. Deeper than this dudes even Also, it looks like he is standing infront of a kickdrum and using his heel to hit those bass drum bonks all on his own in this video

@@flickeringboxofficial I expect that sooner or later you will get suggestions for the three a Capella groups that most consider to be the best: Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voiceplay. Each is different, each has a large catalog of covers and originals, and each will astound you with their talent. I don't believe you can go wrong with anything you choose. Many of the members of each group also do solo performances and guest appearances with the other two groups and with others.
