very good two cents my friend, but you are at the wrong youtube channel if you want more show. this is a tell youtube channel, that is why while i watch it on and off, i cannot bring myself to subscribe. talking head videos are meant to be this way. since there is nothing to show, i usually use such videos to help me dose off. lovely voice.

disagree because a picture has a lot to do with 100 other factors that you would not account for, like time of the day, lighting, model, location, so you can have a shit picture taken in the g master and a better picture taken in the kit lens if you aren't perfect. So it'll only confuse you. But here you get the details in technology which shows you it's capacity.

Some good info here although I must say that with todays bodies an f/4 aperture really isn't that big of a setback anymore. 5-10 years ago losing a stop of light would have been a huge deal but now it's very easy to make that up with IBIS (slower shutter speed) or higher ISO that still produces incredible images. Bokeh would certainly be better at f/2.8 but if someone wants great bokeh they should be looking into primes.

i just got the 24-70mm gmaster and i took a few test shots. The corners seem to be a bit weak at 24 and 70 but at 35mm it was sharp. The center is sharp though. So was that blur on your shots the center? Or at the corners?

I bought an old Tamron from the 90’s in Minolta Maxxum Mount aka Sony A Mount, pop on my Sony LA-EA4 adaptor and it’s PARTY TIME $150 including 7 Tiffen Filters . Most of my A7 lenses are old Minolta lenses. The 70-210mm F4 Beercan is another steal!!! Minolta 90mm Prime. 50mm F1.8 like $40 Also a HUGE fan of Sigma’s Art lenses in E Mount.

Sony owns a 12% share within Tamron. This probably explains why the 28-75 works like a native lens, with the ability to update the lens firmware via the camera body. Additionally, it gives me confidence that Tamron will address any issues that can be fixed via firmware updates- like they’ve done so far. I can’t wait for a 16-35 and 70-200 FE mount from Tamron - they’ve applied for the patents already!

I shoot w the 24-70 GM on my a7Sii and it’s a work horse! I’ve shot several concerts, filmed several interviews both using it as 30mm for A-cam and 70mm for B-cam, as well as a lot of event b-roll (paired on zhiyun crane v2 it maxes out the cranes weight). Save up enough to buy the GM you won’t need another lens for a while

Hongze Wu I have used my 24-105 to shoot basketball and it nails it with the autofocus. Tracks really well, the only issues are when there’s a fast break and I plan ahead and it has to find what to put in focus. This is shooting 4K 30fps f8 and focus is set to wide.

Fantastic review, clear precise and the best thing is it has made me sit back and reconsider a purchase I was going to make today! (That being the Sony 24-105mm 3.5-5.6 OSS ) I will perform a few more tests with what I have before I rush out and buy. I have the 24-70mm Sony kit lens for my Sony A7iii and a Nikon 14-24mm f2.8, the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 and a adapter which allows most of the modes including Autofocus and the main features. The two Nikon lenses do struggle in low light with the adapter to focus, in that they sometimes search and I miss valuable images but other than that they are quick and VERY sharp. Thanks again!!!! ;-)

I'm using the kit lens as a f5.6 constant. yeah it's much slower than f4 or 2.8, and f5.6 have deeper depth of field. but the thing is I don't like the more and more common bokeh/blurry background as there are more and more full frame sensors with f2.8 lenses. I came from micro four thirds world, Panasonic GH series, which unfortunately only got a f2.8 zoom to be the shallowest depth of field option. f5.6 isn't that bad, a bit of blurry background when closer and zoomed in, and almost no blurry background using the wildest end is actually pretty good. I would say it's very close to human eyes, with absolutely dramatic effects
@nyax4361
@nyax4361 Жыл бұрын
btw I'm using A7S II, which doesn't care that much of a stop slower. and as it only got 12MP to begin with, corner sharpness and many many down side from that kit lens became less of an issue.

I agree! For the super budget conscious, the kit Sony 24-70mm is a wonderful lens. I did get the Sony Zeiss 24-70 f4 and though it was a bit better, it wasn't worth the extra cost. I then went through a number of prime Rokinons until I got the Sony 24-105mm. I love it! Better color rendition and so much sharper than the other lenses I had bought.

I got the kit lens and the 24-105mm which i am impressed with it's sharpness and overall quality. My next lens will either be the 90mm Macro or the 85mm 1.8. The 24-70 GM is out of my reach for now as I have other priorities for now. Great guide 👍

I can second the 90mm Macro as his next lens. It will depend on what he shoots, but it's amazing for macro, and produces super sharp portraits. The choice will be based on whether you value flexibility and sharpness over bokeh and low light performance.

How do you find 24-105? It's f/4 isn't it? I've been considering giving it a shot as it's much more affordable than 24-70 f/2.8 which is twice as much.... How sharp is it? Do you think you can get away without extra f-stop?
@MeAMuse
@MeAMuse 6 жыл бұрын
Kamil Glabik only you can decide whether you can get away without the extra stop. It all depends on what you shoot. As far as I have heard it’s a pretty sharp lens. Not used it personally tho.

Good vlog apart from one thing ! You harped on "Get the kit lens", "Get the kit lens" ! Then later said "Don't get the Tamron it's 28mm and doesn't go as wide as the 24mm" ! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the kit lens is 28mm ! So why bang on about getting a 28mm kit lens, then dis the Tamron because it's 28mm ! The IQ of the kit lens is pants compared to the Tamron ! Farr better suggestion would of been buy a Body only, then get the best lens you can for your budget. I gave it a thumbs up because apart from that it was very informative, Thnx

24-70 f/2.8 G Master is my go-to workhorse. Have never been disappointed with images with it. Next is the 85 f/1.4 G Master. Creamy backgrounds! For super sharpness go with Sony 28 f/2 and 55 f/1.8. The 28 also has two awesome adapters making it a 21 f/2.8 or 16 f/3.5 fisheye! My travel lens is the 24-240 f/3.5-6.3. Never ceases to impress me. The 35 f/2.8 is best for street photography. It's the lightest, smallest lens of the bunch. Last but not least the 90 macro f/2.8 is great for extreme close-ups and good for portraits! All of these lenses are very sharp in my experience. (I have been shooting Sony A7Rii and A7RIII for 3 years, switching from Nikon full frame after 10 years-D4, Df, D700 and best Nikon glass).

Well done! Do you know whether optical steady shot works with non-Sony lenses? I have the impression that you have to manually set the focal length to use OSS with a non-Sony prime, and so zooms might be unworkable. But perhaps the newer adapters communicate the focal length?

The problem is many people spend all their money on a top notch camera (like A7III) leaving no money for good lenses. Three or five years later they upgrade their obsolete camera, keeping their bad lenses. Image quality is a combination of brain, sensor and lens. The sensor alone is unable to produce good results. Greetings from Brazil.

Currently own and use my older 24-70 2.8 Canon L with metabones adapter on a7R3 with great results across all focal lengths. Thank you, but more pictures to compare so we can evaluate the pro's and con's. Is it really worth dropping the money on a walk around lens you are going to bin all results anyway? I bought my first zoom in the 1980's and first roll was absolutely horrible, soft, low contrast, all the rolls was just to bin and I quickly went all primes. I know the zooms, but not ALL zooms, are better today, but I can adapt some really good ol' glass with the LA-EA4 and save my buck if this lens is a bomb.

I own the 24-70 2.8 G master... It's phenomenal! It's fast, sharp, tight from edge to edge, colors out of this lens are amazing. Highly recommended. Thanks for your videos.

Switched from Canon (5DMKIII) to Sony (A7III) and have used an adapted (MC11) 24-70 f2.8L II lens and my experience has been mixed. Focussing does work and images are beautifully rendered and sharp when focus is nailed. However, when focus hunts, it doesn't just hunt, it goes on a little safari and for no good reason as light and contrast within the focus area is more than adequate. In addition, not all focussing modes are available when adapted on the MC11. Lastly, the the weight...oh boy, Although the A7III is a little lighter than the Canon, the weight distribution with this lens adapted makes this combo perceptually heavier than when mounted on my 5D.

Just dial in the max aperture for variable aperture lens and be done with. Then you made it into a constant aperture and you avoid the video zoom in/out light variation problem :-) Simples.

At the time you released this video, I purchased the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS and I'm really happy with it as an all rounder ! But today... There is a new contender killing them all !!! The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN art ;-)

Have the 24-105 Sony and at f8 and f11 when I shoot outdoors I've been getting a lot of vignetting (and not a big fan of it). Wondering if this is normal? Thinking of trading it in for a 24-70mm. Hear good things about the Sigma art lense. And curious to hear anyone's thoughts on this -- have the Zeiss 16-35 and the Sony 85mm (which I LOVE). Thanks so much.

Jared Kessler A lot of lens do vignetting, when you edit your photos in Lightroom go into your camera lens profile and you can adjust your distortion and the vignetting of the lens! Very useful I do it on every pictures!

If I started over again I would probably get the 24-105mm for my first lens. I didn’t have too many options when I chose to go with Sony but I think that the zoom lens would be a good place to start. I would get the body and the zoom lens and just shoot and keep track of my exif data. Especially the focal lengths. After a while the data would give me a pretty good idea of what focal lengths I had been using the most. This would aid me later in deciding what lens to get and add to my kit.
@denyxrunner
@denyxrunner 6 жыл бұрын
littlerayblue That's true but I would instead use the kit lens and buy some prime soon after. The 24-105 is completely no sense price for a f4. It should be a 600/700

Really enjoyed your video. I’m really considering the 24-70mm f4 due to the size, weight and price( able to get one new for $599) but the review have not been so favorable. I do shoot with primes: 28m f2 & 55m f1.8. Considering a light zoom for traveling and also have a baby 👶. Zoom is convenient. With all that said (especially the $599 New) is it still worth considering? Or even favoring in all that the 24-105 is till your #1 pick?

I've had the Tamron 28-75 for almost 2 weeks now. Took it with me to a 2 day photo workshop last week and have not had the reported focus issue yet. However, I'm not using it for video. So if the issue is only in video, it wouldn't have been a problem.
