I appreciate mistakes being shown and spoken of, as well as how to fix them. Like you said, so many people only show polished results, and so people get discouraged. I haven't done block printing in many years, but now I do want to give it a shot with cheap erasers!

I never thought to carve into a pinky!!! Great idea! Did you know you can take those scraps and smush them all together, kneading them like dough will make them great for drawing erasers! the more you knead them, the more they clean up, and the more they mush together! applying a very small amount of heat will help in that process.

Great tutorial. Cute stamps!! I am a professional artist and I learned this #1 rule many many years ago. (just re-emphasizing what you mentioned)….Very important rule when using lino cutting tools (or any sharp cutting tools) ALWAYS cut AWAY from your body, fingers, palm of hand!! It is very easy for the tool to slip and, let’s be honest, gouging your body isn’t nearly as fun as making cute stamps!! ❤

My art teacher should have gotten us erasers to carve...then maybe there would be a few stamps created within the whole class...my teacher decided to introduce linoleum carving to us, and made us get a block of pretty expensive lino about A6 size each. Most of my classmates gave up within 10 mins of trying, but i was truly interested, even staying back after school to carve. Until I had a slip of the hand and gave myself a decent cut on a finger. I was 11 and I still remember how I had soaked through all the tissues I had on me despite applying pressure, and dripped blood all the way to the toilet to wash the wound and get more paper to press against the wound. I was pretty impressed I managed to handle all of it without panicking, asking for help or passing out. Fast forward more than a decade - became a doctor, not an artist. Totally makes sense now 😂

Did anyone else do “Letterboxing” in the 00s? I wish I couldn’t remember what my stamp design was but this was pretty much how everyone made their stamps and it was really fun to see everyone’s designs. One of the last ones I did was in a random cemetery - not even a cool creepy one - and the book was filled with mainly happy-go-lucky stamp designs. So random 😆 I love the cat stamp and wish I saw that one in the cemetery lol

Really wish the Pink Pearls came in larger sizes just for this. The company knows we do this with them. They are missing out on a market. :-) Also, try inking the stamp instead of pressing the stamp into the pad. Sometimes that works better depending on the stamp pad. One last thing, a brayer over the back of the eraser can sometimes give you a smoother print. (I want to get these and make an alphabet set!)

In elementary school I used to carve pencils and erasers with paper clips. It kept me from going insane from undiagnosed ADHD. It kept my hands busy so I wouldn't chew on my fingers and nails as much. I guess I was like a puppy? I'm so glad that there are better tools now, but I would spend hours in school carving flowers into pencils and erasers. Never thought to use them as stamps, I just had pretty erasers.
