Im sure there is a market for this in every country. From experience it can take years of playing around to perfect a wheelie, mostly from fear of destroying an expensive street bike you love. Bicycles and beater dirt bikes helped get it going when i was younger. Never had a beater street bike so being as good as i am now on any bike, with wheelies being second nature and happen regularly not by accident. It was a 25 year progression. It can take a long time. They can expand this thing im sure. Sometimes you dont want to wait for skills so long. My best skill is dog walking the ass end, also started from dirt bikes and one of the first thing i brought to street, but all other skills are great fun too.

It sounds like you've had quite a journey in developing your wheelie and bike riding skills over the years! Your progression from bicycles and beater dirt bikes to mastering wheelies on street bikes is impressive, and it's understandable that it can take a long time to become proficient in such skills. It's great to hear that you've found joy and satisfaction in your abilities. Indeed, there may be a market for training or tools to help others expedite their skills, the difficulty would be getting the land to use. I’m not bad at dog walking to 😂👍

@@thatbikersimon Got my first street bike at 17 from a garage sale for $600., years before a car. It was a mint condition 82 Honda CM 450 custom. It was four years old with 2100 miles on the od. Most skill came riding a 88 Hawk GT 647(Totaled it) and a 86 GsxR 750(Through a rod at 80k hard miles) They are in my blood and the short periods in my life without one I was not complete, 40 years later I still have four bikes all on the sporty side of things. 83 GS 1100E, 92 FZR 600, 03 Buell XB9R and a Show room condition 02 Daytona 955i I found two years ago that had 67 miles on it. Really! I got to break the bloody thing in. So proud and just some of my babies thru the years. How much wear does this put on the clutch ?. When I was a kid I used to be able to sit on my back wheel on my bmx for ages but doing it on a motorbike I think I’d shit myself just because of the flipping it factor.
@thatbikersimon6 ай бұрын
I think the clutch wear is very minimal because it’s literally a little tap to bring the bike up, the device on the back of the bike stops the bike going over, it very safe if you follow the procedure

I learned on a dirt bike, and it wasn't this approach. Just threw caution to the wind falling down a lot, but dirt bikes are a lot cheaper and the ground is much softer than pavement. Once I got pretty good with the dirt bike, it was only a small learning curve to get on a street bike. To me the hardest part was getting past the feeling that the wheel was higher than it actually is. I'm still not great at them, but good enough to have some good fun.

You shouldn’t need more throttle because you’ve already accelerated up to speed, so popping the clutch should be sufficient for the lift, and then it’s just a case of throttle control, rolling on and rolling off to maintain the wheelie.

I can just about get my elbow down, love trackdays but ive never been tempted to get into wheelies on a motorbike. This is odd as love wheelieing my Big Rippee 29er bmx. Somehow i view it as dangerous which is also odd given how fast i ride on the road sometimes.
@thatbikersimon Жыл бұрын
It's interesting how our perception of danger can vary between different activities. Riding a motorbike and doing wheelies on a BMX bike can indeed feel very different, even if they both have their own risks. Safety and personal preferences play a big role in how we approach these hobbies, I find my newest bikes harder to wheelie, perhaps I know I can’t afford to drop them 😂

@ZayPatino Жыл бұрын
it's good, but this is teaching you how to chase a wheelie - not a real wheelie.. much slower progress. They should get the wheelie machine and have you guys reaching BP at slow speeds and getting used to the rear brake. Anybody that leaves this class and try's to wheelie on a busy street, but gives it more throttle - they're gonna wreck.
@thatbikersimon Жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying but I think wheelie school is a first step if building yourself up for the next level. Wheelies on modern bikes would make it easier with wheelie control modes. I guess the benefit for the school is you get the opportunity to have plenty of runs at it. I had over 150 goes on the day and you can’t do that in the road. For me personally I wouldn’t want to get into the Habit of doing it on the road as I known guys lose there license for dangerous riding. I’ve had a go on the wheelie machine and it’s great for helping with the back brake. I shall return to the school again next year jusy becauce it’s a fun day out great value for money.
@ZayPatino Жыл бұрын
@@thatbikersimon I would use this school & bike and immediately practice bringing it up to balance point at slower speeds - all that going fast and chasing it out - its gonna take you soooo long to learn - this would be the better option to start with, I learned how to ride my wheelies at balance point on my 2021 R1 in 2 days using this kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoaVemisYquqj5o

Good turtorial, I'm trying to wheel my GSR750, the problem is I feel a little unsafe trying it at like 50-60mph but in first gear the suzuki got way to much power to let the clutch slip it's like pulling of a backflip😅
@thatbikersimon Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful! Wheelies can be challenging, especially on a powerful bike like the GSR750. Safety should always be the priority. You might want to practice in a controlled environment like an empty parking lot and gradually build up your confidence and skills before attempting wheelies at higher speeds. Definitely use 2nd gear or even 3rd. Stay safe out there!
@HaidsK2 Жыл бұрын
2nd gear wheelies on a 750 is reaching highway speed. I learnt by going about 40-50kmph in 1st on my gsxr750, she comes up real nice and only needs about 20% throttle to maintain it just below balance point@@thatbikersimon
@keysersoze3866 Жыл бұрын
It’s not too much power. It’s throttle control. Even at higher speeds as the wheel comes up you need very fine throttle control. If you can’t do it in first then you’ll likely flip it in higher gears. No substitute for practice. Just like this video shows.
@akospasztor4336 Жыл бұрын
It would be safer to learn a “slow balance point wheelie” in a smaller bike, when you are constantly on the balance point and control it with throttle and rear break. This speedie power wheelie looks more dangeroues it wont make anybody a good wheelie guy. Am i wrong? But of course it has a faster progression in the beginning and make a big smile on your face.
@thatbikersimon Жыл бұрын
when attempting a "slow balance point wheelie," the size of the bike doesn't automatically guarantee safety. Smaller bikes can be twitchier and more sensitive to throttle and brake inputs, which could actually make it harder for a beginner to find and maintain the balance point. A larger bike, with its increased weight and more gradual power delivery, could potentially provide a more stable platform for learning wheelies. a "speedie power wheelie" isn't necessarily more dangerous if performed under controlled conditions, such as a closed course with proper safety gear and under the guidance of experienced riders or instructors. The thrill and confidence gained from successfully performing a power wheelie can also be beneficial for a rider's learning curve, encouraging them to continue improving their skills. Interesting point though. I appreciate other opinions, I Never did wheelies as a youth but I’ve done wheelie school twice and found it very safe and easy under instruction. 👍
@akospasztor4336 Жыл бұрын
@@thatbikersimon Thanks for the detailed answer, my comment didnt want to be a criticism i was just wondering which one could be better / faster / safer. I should have used the “less powerful” bike words instead of “smaller” but I got your point that a heavier bike can be more stable. When I started to learn wheelie I had taken a course where I could use something called “wheelie machine” like this: motobsk.com/wp-content/uploads/BSK2204-wheelie-machine-ultra-motobsk-wheelie-trainer-22.jpg It was a really great tool to get use to the feeling of falling behind the balance point and use the rear break to decrease and stop it. First time it was really scary, everybody lift their legs up from the pegs and gave up whats happening to the fortune. But of course after you had removed the machine from your bike the next struggle started: keep the bike straight😃 That was my way to start learning it but either way wheelie schools should be much more common all over the world because its pure fun of doing it and this is most important 😃 Sorry I am not a native english speaker but I hope you understood me.
