We had a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke go into salt water at wide open throttle and it actually ran better than ever after we fished it out and changed the oil. There was a dead spot in the throttle before but dropping it in the sea at full throttle apparently cleared out the carbs. Great video, thanks.

I recently bought a boat with a 1997 115hp evinrude ocean pro on it with only 300odd hours. Same deal, fresh unbroken paint on the lower unit bolts - it hadn't ever been changed since new. Got new plugs, impeller, carb kits & changed from VRO fuel pump to standard fuel pump. Runs really strong! Much respect from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

Great video and nice engine. A note to anyone reading this though. Never EVER clean any painted surface with a Brillo or scouring pad. It has the same outcome as sandpaper. It will of course abrade the dirt or overspray away but will leave your paint very dulll and scratched.

That is one hell of a score! I’ve been searching for a small boat since someone gave me a 1965 3hp Johnson. I just lucked upon a 14’ lone star with a 15hp Evinrude on a trailer for cheap. I’m happy to have it but I already knew I was gonna want at least a 25hp. Well. I’ll be great full for what I have and just keep looking. They’re out there. Great video thanks. It keeps me optimistic.

You need an ultrasonic cleaner for your carb parts. Must have bench tool for these compact engines that operate in corrosive environment. 😊 After breaking the pistons free with Marvel Mystery, put 1-2 tablespoons of foam air filter oil into each piston. That oil is high viscosity and will "stick" to your rings and cylinder walls until the rings free up. That will fix your compression problem.
@durbeshpatel3047
@durbeshpatel3047 Жыл бұрын
I was told along time ago to put a bit of seafoam in every tank (for these small engines). Its basically kept my fuel problems to a minimum. I run high octane non ethanol with performance oil for 2 strokes, and non ethanol for 4 strokes with frequent oil changes and things work great. Also an Italian tune up (running engine full throttle and running it regularly) will do wonders, they like to work

I did the same thing with a short shaft 18 tohatsu i picked up for $150. It had been sitting outside since 2002! It was partially stuck and needed a new $60 cdi unit, plus a water pump, plugs and t stat, and carb clean. Thing started on the 2nd pull! These japanese small motors are amazing.

I think the funniest part is that you keep saying 1998 like it was a million years ago. Doesn't seem like that long to me but then I've got a lot of stuff that's even older like my 1985 Toro snowblower the boatload of tools from the same time period and then there's the '70 Chevelle. These years pass all too quickly and 1998 seems like just yesterday to me. Great job rehabbing a real workhorse.
