Love y a work and I'm so glad you did this story but there's one super important part that's missed and it's possibly the answer to the Crimes Russell was there the week before at the campsite and he went back in the town to pick up the love of his life and to his dismay he was really pissed off that the best part of that area that he'd been camping in the week before and always used was gone because the pilot was in the place of Russell's favourite Riverside campsite This pissed Russell off to know end and that's why he used the drone to annoy him to get him to get the f*** out of there and go homehe forgot about Russell's phone but he smashed her phone up because she was recording the whole incident

@@CATNAPREAL1188I understand that that is a reality for some, but sadly not in this case. As an Aussie we watched her life and heart unravel in real time through the media as she found out the truth that he wasn’t alone on his trips away, and how many friends were aware of their relationship. However she still made known that he was a beautiful man that must have loved them both deeply - i really respect her for recognising that, because it wouldn’t be my reaction 😅

She was aware of the affair at one point and asked him to end it. Apparently she believed that he did. He was an outdoorsman and had an excuse to be away from home often, so it’s plausible his wife didn’t realize his camping trips with the boys were actually pretexts for seeing his mistress. I think many of his friends knew what he was doing but felt it wasn’t their place to interfere and didn’t want their own wives to find out that such shenanigans were going on during their camping trips. I guess they were afraid their wives might start giving them a hard time about going off on camping trips with their buddies, even though he was the only one among his friends engaging in such behavior.

It's a pity Mike didn't cover that. I suspected he was, when you look at how he handled the bodies. He knew exactly what to do it seems, as if he's done it before. If it wasn't for that one photo of his car, he wouldn't have been caught. Also I think its wrong he wasn't sentenced to life withouth parole. A person like him should not be out among people again. And it made me angry, his story about the victims and that people believed him. It just sounded completely made up to make him look innocent. Murderers often talk bad about their victims but usually people don't believe them when they blame their victims for their own deaths. In this case it seems both the police and jury believed him. That made me sad and disappointed. I'm sorry for the wife too. Must have hit her hard. Rest in piece to the innocent victims and hope their loved ones can heal.

I am not condoning cheating but your attitude is sadder. The age discrimination and naivety is shocking. You assume they shouldn’t have been doing anything because they reached that age. What is that age and what do you think happens? That the brain doesn’t work any more that desires, emotions, needs, cease? These were not doddering old pensioners. A couple in a love affair right or wrong made plans. They cleverly kept it hidden made up cover stories and went on vacation with each other. They went away to have fun and tragedy happened. Just because they were early 70s was stereotyping them as mentally unsound and calling them elderly implied physically challenged. They were camping with gear and a complete camp and hiking! They lied to people but they were not inept nor unsound. You really need to revamp your thinking about age and realize people do not cease functioning just because they reach higher numbers.

The way he had destroyed the evidence and remains means it was impossible to confirm their manner of death, I think the split decision was the jury’s way of compromising in a case with very little evidence to contradict his story, even though they clearly didn’t believe it. It’s possible they found the idea plausible the men got into a physical altercation but couldn’t find the same to be true with Carol. Remember, there’s a burden of proof that needs to be met to justify a jury decision. This was a very difficult case for them. It does seem a bit strange but I think I see the logic.

Thanks, Mike. Intriguing tale. The hiker who took the pictures and said nothing - why did he/she take pictures for? It was significant to see a vehicle on its own, with a campsite burned down to a crisp, to take pictures, but not to report it? And the story from the suspect, absolute hogwash. Russell came, TOOK Lynn's rifle, for Lynn to come and wrestle with him over it, the rifle discharging without Lynn's finger on the trigger, shooting Carol. So Lynn walks off with the rifle, for Russell to come at him afterward with a knife, they tussle again, to find Russell on the ground with the knife protruding from his body, where he dies. So Lynn feels he won't be believed, burns their campsite, takes the bodies away and burns them, selling the trailer he hauled them in. Changes the appearance of his vehicle AFTER it is shown in an appeal. If he is guilty of murdering Carol, how did Russell die with the knife?? Russell did it himself?? That makes no sense. Lynn has to be guilty of killing Russell as well.

The story about going camping by himself sure sounds familiar...my father used it in the seventies. Claimed he was off bow hunting, and over the years, only ever claimed to have shot at a deer once, and said it got away from him, wounded. He was busted for cheating within a year or two of the story. He always kept bedding in the back of his pickup, which had a topper...not just when camping. It's kinda obvious why....and I bet it's a common story when cheating.

I read somewhere that the reason why Robin was drilled by the media so much was because her daughters said they knew about the affair and that this trip wasn't the first they had gone on together!! The reason why he got off on Russell's death was because at the autopsy it couldn't be determined whether he had a heart attack before or after the knife went in!!! Now he is apparently trying to appeal his sentence and is still claiming he is innocent!!
