Read the article of the miners v police battle of Orgreave (Miners strike 1984/85) specifically the part played by the BBC film footage for that evenings news. The BBC took their film footage and edited it in such a way that it showed the miners initiating the ‘battle’ by throwing stones. The mounted police had actually charged with truncheons into the miners prior to this and the only thing the miners had to defend themselves were the stones on the ground around them, the BBC manipulated the film footage to cast the miners in a bad light. This was all during the thatcher era and it’s understood that the government had requested the editing of the film footage.

Ex work colleague, who sadly is no longer with us, was an ex miner. He hated the police all his life. He once told me that the miners stood peacefully at a picket line and police set their dogs on them. The other example he gave was the police routinely waved £5 and £10 at them and taunted them about the extra overtime they had.
@jixuscrixus2 жыл бұрын
The reporter, camera crew and sound man had taken the film footage back to the BBC studios in time for the evening news, even they were stupefied by the way in which the editing portrayed the miners as the aggressors, when they’d seen first hand the mounted police using military tactics with their horses and truncheons to beat the miners.

Britain was in shambles in 1979, facing the worst economic destruction since WWII due to socialism under the left-wing Labour party. Too much freebies, and Too much welfare spending lead to the economy tanking and Britain was dying. When even the grave digger unions were protesting against the then leftwing/socialist Labour Party, you know Socialism DOES NOT WORK. . _(Britain didn't have oil reserves like Venezuela, and a socialist economy needs a VERY VERY rich central govt to pay for the welfare policies)_ . In 1979 she came to power and changed everything. She starting the privatization of various industries as they were responsible for bleeding the nation dry. Nearly 8000 miners lost their jobs, and various other "govt agencies" were re organised to lower cost. Her 3 term tenure saw Britain rise to a powerful and economically strong country we see today, albeit at the cost of thousands of jobs. She saved Britain from becoming the modern day Venezuela, but the cost was high, and hence the hatred. Look at the comments, everyone talks about the Miner Union Protest of 1984-85. No leader would have had to balls to fight back. When Argentina attacked the Falklands, most politicians said "let them have it", but Thatcher, the Iron Lady, said NO and won back not just the Falkland, but established Britain's resilience to invasion for eternity. She is also highly responsible for the west's victory in the Cold War.

Malcom Johnson As an American you might understand about socialism and Marxism, before Thatcher the country was in complete control by unions with their paymasters in the USSR who were getting ready to take over the UK. They had switched off the power at random a decade earlier with collusion between the electrical unions and the miner unions. The coal miner unions thought they would do the same with Thatcher, but coal was in rapid decline as a fuel and Thatcher was doing what every government had done previously which was close mines. Thatcher's gov offered even the shortest working miners £40,000 (you could buy a good house with that at the time) in redundancy pay, but the union carefully manipulated it into a fight. Miners and their families who didn't go along with the union were ostracised and hated ...one died when a brick was hurled at his car windshield from a bridge on a high-speed road. Thatcher swept aside the old declining industries and brought in the Japanese, but part of the deal was that companies like Sony and Nissan would have no union influence in their factories, despite the union opposition a deal was struck and Sony had a highly successful TV factory in Wales and Nissan ..still a successful company in the NE.

Why precisely do you British hate her so much ? I mean we the french are quite experts in hating our presidents, and Macron has been hated A LOT because of his reforms and his disdain for the people, but not to the point that thousands would celebrate his death 😯

Seriously? Just do a basic read up of uk politics in the 1980s. She dismantled who industries, communities and even regions of the country. She knew the price of everything but the value of nothing. I will quite openly say i hate her and what she did, believed in and stood for.

From what I understand looking at other UK people: she fucked the working class, privatised everything and didn't give a fuck. That's why you see your common civilian celebrating her death, specially in the north of the UK, which suffered the most from her actions.

Three election wins in a row, and a fourth that clearly stemmed from her legacy. Socialists don't half pick and choose when to respect the voice of the people.
