So I'm getting a few questions about my bitrate export. I'm no expert and I'm always experimenting and constantly learning. For the past year or so I've been pumping the bit rate to 80/96. That's pretty high for YT indeed but the 4K footage is shot at 100 so think it's a nice place to target for good quality. My thought process is that I want to get as high quality as possible before YT starts to compress my files, that way I feel like I'm able to retain a higher quality. On YT's website, they recommend 44-56mpbs for 24-30fps 4K footage, but they also write this: _"No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference"_ Sometimes I do go lower tho, like 40/48 or somewhere around there, I've had good results with lower bitrates as well. But mostly I do what I showed in the video and it has worked well for me, and since you guys have been asking about my quality I wanted to show you guys what I've been doing. However please share your thoughts, I would love to hear what you do and why. Let's learn and grow together!

Great vide with epic vibe behind it. 🔥👏An interesting approach to not clicking render at maximum depth. Now I'm curious how it can affect my export. 😉 There moments when I'm in a rush and don't want to have a huge size to be sure it's uploaded on time so 20Mbps with one pass render does the job as YT do its own compression anyway. Like the idea to increase max Mbps by 20%. 👍
@astrovlog4 жыл бұрын
@@CreateGreg render at maximum depth uses 32-bit depth render, you use that when you have higher bit depth footage than the output, for example, if you soot 10 bits but you output Rec.709 for youtube, or if you are using 32 or 16 bit effects. If you shoot at 8 bits and export at 8 bits it will do nothing and it will take more time. A simple google search will get you that answer, hope it helps.

Man, you're doing it wrong, just to clarify some video concepts ... 2-pass VBR is a massive waste of time. Just crank the CBR as high as you possibly can. That's the workflow if you're uploading something that will be recompressed anyway. VBR is for size efficiency, especially 2 passes. You don't care about that. Well, you do, for final finals for your archiving purpose. But then again, Adobe isn't really the best for efficiency anyway. You'd be better of rendering massive bitrate CBR and then using Handbrake afterward. Also, KZbin doesn't care about your video quality that much, they care more about bandwidth and processing also ... so obviously, they will NOT recommend big bitrate CBR ... because, then you're making them work harder and costing them slightly more money, by uploading massive files. Also, you said you don't need a higher bitrate than your source files, that's not true ... if you're gonna recompress your video 100x at the same bitrate ... it will look like shit. The process of recompressing is by definition a lossy one. At high bitrates, the losses are quite smaller, the higher you go with the bitrate, the less damage there is, so if you want to be one of those insane perfectionists with crystal sharp videos, pump the bitrate as much as you think you can handle in terms of file size to upload. They are really minimal changes to be super clear, but it does make some difference if you want to be technical. It's like if you start with 90-JPEG .. and then each time you edit it ... you save it again as 90-JPEG ... well each time you do that .. you recompress from scratch and details get lost. H.264 is like that, except even more complex. Instead, if you start with 90-JPEG ... you would then save it as PNG or BMP and work with it that way ... before the very last step, where you compress it for efficiency ... but KZbin does that for you. So you don't want to feed KZbin efficient files, you're already losing detail there that way. The problem is ... uncompressed video is truly gigantic, huge perfectionists know of lossless codecs, that still quite big (and are more of a thing for production workflow not upload) ... the next best thing is huge bitrate CBR ... VBR really makes more sense only at more reasonable bitrates anyway, especially with two passes.

If you filming at 24 fps or 30 fps, and you are in a country with 50hz electricity, then you can just set your shutter speed to 50 instead of 60. It's close enough to 180 degrees and it will eliminate the light flickering. Same thing if you happen to be in a country with 60hz electricity, even if you are shooting at 24 fps you can set your shutter speed to 60 instead of 48 or 50 to reduce the amount of light flicker.

Hi, I'm really sorry, I don't want to seem like a douchebag but you are wrong in several parts, great content and there are interesting ideas, but I think you are spreading misleading information, or maybe I'm wrong and I'm a douchebag. First of all, the crispiness of your footage comes from one thing and one thing only (apart from the great sensor and the camera) and it is THE LENS! You are using the Sigma 16mm F1.4 and it is a superb lens and you don't even mention it. Now, let's get into the wrong stuff: - VBR 2 passes IS NOT better quality than 1 pass, I won't get into details but 2 passes only gets you slightly smaller files, especially at those huge bitrates you are using. 2 passes will get you better quality only on fast-moving images at very low bitrates compared to 1 pass. And, speaking of bitrates, for UHD or 4k, 45mbps H.264 is ok for youtube, that is the target bitrate with 1pass, so if the footage needs more it will use more, going to 80mbps won't make it better at all, it only makes it larger, and it only works for fast-moving images, when you only talk to the camera even 45mbps is too much, but the codec will manage that ok. - S-gamut is a bad idea when recording on low bitrates (yes, 100mbps for capturing 4k is low) with compress GOP (Group of pictures) codecs and especially at 8bit 4:2:0, if you record prores, braw or all-intra footage is fine, not for MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 - Render at maximum depth renders the video at 32-bit color depth, you use it only when the source footage has a higher bit depth than the output, or you are using 32-bit color effects, which is NOT your case. Well, you don't use it anymore, so it is ok. - Maximum Render Quality only works when you are resizing using a more intense algorithm, if you are not resizing IT WON'T MAKE YOUR FOOTAGE BETTER. Ok, I hope someone will find this useful, and if you have doubts google some of it to learn what everything really means and export with the right settings. Regards from Chile.
@alimoghnieh56614 жыл бұрын
nice what do you mean by "s-gamut is a bad idea"?
@astrovlog4 жыл бұрын
Ali Moghnieh hi, it’s very technical, but I’ll try to make it simple, which is not easy because English is not my native language. There are different versions of S-gamut, there is the S-gamut3, s-gamut3.cine and so on. This is the color space, a very wide color space, but when you record at 8 bit you only get 256 colors for each channel (R,G,B) and it is highly compressed on a Sony a6000 series, the codec has “ghosts” images because is a GOP codec and also the chroma sub-sampling is 4:2:0, so you are not getting all the colors the s-gamut is giving you, making is really hard to grade because some colors are simply not there. S-gamut is intended for S-log gamma ideally at 4:2:2 or even 10 bit 4:2:2 or higher. So, I think is a bad idea to use a wide color space on a highly compressed codec, you won’t get better colors and you’ll loose color information. Well, at least that’s my opinion 😁

Rendering gets alot more technical than most people realize, so for me it's forgivable when someone gets some info wrong, but most of what he shared here is how he does it, and not necessarily what is the absolute best, which I think is a good distinction to make. As for me, I usually render one master file with the best settings for that project (usually some form of mxf), and export different compresses from that file.

The higher bitrate is one things makes the video sharper, the other is to just barely oversharpen...right before the image starts to break and go one setting less. One other important setting was the detail. You are using -4. That is interesting because others have concluded that -4 to -3 is the breaking point before getting that digital look. TBH, -7 makes skin look excellent...best I've seen. -4 or higher is best when you have people wearing makeup or a ceremony where everyone is all fixed up and you want to highlight detail and crispness. Otherwise, stick with -7. Excellent demonstration.
