I always thought Wedge Antillies was saying "Luck ass falls in position" I thought the stormtroopers were robots as well and like you though the backplate was a maintenance box. I didn't understand how Luke and Han were able to wear robot parts lol. It wasn't until I was a bit older did I realize they were people in an armored uniform. I also thought Darth Vader was a robot and wondered why people were afraid of a robot that had a breathing noise. One of the DUMBEST things I thought was that the TIE Fighter was called a "bow tie" fighter and that the speeder bikes were called "rec speeders" as Luke says "there's another wrecked speeder" and I thought he was saying rec speeder LMAO! Most embarrassing though, I thought C3PO abdomen area was a "plaid" shirt and laughed and told my mom "hey it's a person! You can see his shirt, it's one of those checkered shirts like me and dad have!" Mom just laughed. You being too hard on yourself man lol we all thought stupid things as kids 😂

And it's a relief to see that I'm not the only one who thought dumb, stupid things about Star Wars when I was a dumb, stupid kid! Also... Bib Fortuna was DEFINITELY warning Boushh about C-3PO's tendencies (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Then my sister came home from work from a fast food joint and told me to hold out my hand. "Here's Darth Vader!" A friend and I both have memories of seeing Return of the Jedi in the theater as kids and seeing an A-Wing pilot deliberately ignore Ackbar's orders to pull up and rush the Death Star, impacting against the magnetic field. I haven't found any evidence of this, but we both insist that we remember it. When I was about four and the same friend was like five or six, shortly after Empire Strikes Back was released, he told me his family had a real live tauntaun, but that it needed to stay in a special cold stable so they couldn't keep it at the house. He also told me that they had a real Millenium Falcon, but it was in the shop! I believed both of these stories and I still give him shit about it to this day! I remember getting into an argument with a kid at school who also believed the stormtroopers were robots. I knew they were people, but I'm not sure how, I think maybe it had something to do with the way they talk among themselves. It might also have been something out of the storybook, or because I had been reading the Marvel comics of that time, which made it clear that the stormtroopers were humans. They complain about being stuffy insode of their armor and wanting to get off duty, and a couple of them get uncomfortable when they hear Vader torturing a Rebel in one of the detention blocks. Those were good comics.

You were not alone. One of my Cousins thought that everything live action was real. Every time someone on TV dies, she'd react by saying, "They must have paid that person a lot of money to jump off a building/get shot in the head and die". I too thought that characters on TV that are not cartoons and not superheroes to be real, but I knew the stories were not real. I felt sad when I learned that Airwolf, Knight Rider, Automan, MacGyver, Manimal, Rocky, Tarzan were not real people. Before I learned they were not real, I thought they were running around and/or hiding somewhere in the States when they are not making their shows.

I used to save my lunch money to buy them from a cool comic book store around my block. I used to drive the owner crazy with dumb questions until one day I asked him what was the deal with boba fett's face. he got rid of me by making up a story of how one time he got into a terrible explosion and was all burned and deformed and that's why you never saw him without his helmet. he was a grown up who owned a comic book store so I blindly believed everything he said until ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

Some of these things at 17 (when the original movie first came out) I didn't hear clearly either. I thought it was "Dark Vader" the first time I saw the movie. I just let some of it slip over my ADD head. But the Storm Troopers seemed like robots to me, and I was surprised that Luke and Han could wear robot suits...I simply could not picture men inside the suits the way the troopers were presented. (Actors, yes, but they seemed intended to be robotlike rather than just soldierlike.) So the impression you had as a younger kid made total sense to me...I was very imaginative so I made it fit. That's part of what made Star Wars so appealing. You could make it be what you WANTED in a lot of ways. It's one of the major qualities of classic works of literature, art, etc. It's what made comic book heroes so great (I am a big comic book nerd)...that flexibility in interpretation for the listener/watcher. To me, the original trilogy was almost a biblical tale, a retelling of an ancient idea of a grounded but very tested hero and his/her moral journey to adult awareness. As the youthful witness, it's your own journey too, so what you make of it is ok, not necessarily "wrong"

Man, I wanted that backyard playset with the speeder bike swing so badly! But I was probably 8 by the time I saw that in a catalog, and it didn't seem like a good investment since I'd outgrow it so fast (sorta looked like it was aimed at 5 year olds). Also, I freakin' LOVE those Empire trailers! They were creepy! ha. I also grew up with the records before VHS was common. Though I had the book and records for the first two films, and for Jedi I had the big album, but it also had a booklet to read along with it. I was pretty obsessed with book and record sets, and later with VHS. Now I'm obsessed with blurays/4k and action figures (as always), ha.

You were around the same age as myself when Star Wars came out. I used to argue with my older siblings insisting that Vader and the stormtroopers were robots. It wasn't until a year later I was finally convinced Vader was human. It took ESB for it to sink in that the stormtroopers were not robots.

IDK if there was a weird parody like this, but I swear the first time I saw ANH that when Leia was about to shoot the stormtroopers on the blockade runner, that she had an upright bass and stepped into an orchestra room, then went back to shoot with the bass. Mind you this was when I was like 3 of 4. And I only saw it on special edition and not really paying attention. I saw the original edition of all three movies only like 5 or 6 months ago (it was epic).

A couple of mine from . . . ANH - Han said to Leia, "He's the brains sweetheart!" referring to Luke coming up with the plan to bust her out of her cell. For a long time I thought Han said, "Heave the brains sweetheart" as if to tell her to stop being a smart mouth. RotJ - As the Rebel fleet is approaching the Death Star II, Lando says to Nien Numb, "We should be able to get some kind of reading on that thing, up or down." For many years, until I read a copy of the script, because it was frustrating to not know what he said, I thought the line was, "We should be able to get some kind of reading on that thing, up port now."

This is about a friend I had. One day I said Star Wars took place in the past (Long, long time ago...). My friend said it was in the future. His reasoning was that if Star Wars took place in the past we would find X-Wings buried in the Earth. His cousin and I tried telling him it is a movie(s) so we can't find something that doesn't exist buried. When that didn't work I tried using his own logic against him. I explained since it is in a "galaxy far far away" they never made here so we can't find their technology buried on Earth. He countered saying that if SW took place in the past with their technology they would have found a Earth and we would be finding buried X-Wings. (😱) My friend was a smart guy. He taught me how to play chess. Even then there we were having this argument as high school teenagers. 😒

The Rope thing may just be a different cut of the film. In the late 1970's they'd send physical print, and sometimes outtakes or alternate takes were in fact used.
@Cuppy88
@Cuppy88 4 жыл бұрын
This has already been debunked like a bajillion different times. For one, They did NOT just ship out random prints that arbitrarily contained different material from one print to another. A movie has to be cut together from the camera negatives from which an interpositive is made after the final cut is "locked in", then an answer print, then an internegative, from which the final release prints are printed off of. If a major editing change was to be made like that to a movie in that era, it had to be approved by someone and made to the main source from which everything else is printed from. They don't piece movies together as they are printing a film print and go "Whoops, I can't find the master take, I guess I'll just use this random alternate shot!". Two, There is no point in the musical score which would correspond with this editing change if it did in fact exist (It didn't).

This is a common misrememberance, but it did not happen. Not in any print whatsoever. Lucasfilm even made a statement in mid 2000's that no C3PO is not gay, first of all he's a droid, second of all his programming was made to allow C3PO to relate to both male and female owners, just enough manliness for men, and just enough feminine side to relate to women. Nowadays whenever someone denies that a character was that, they get attacked. Okay, I'm only 3 minutes into the video, but I may have a possible explanation about the "Luke throws the rope twice" thing. In the novelization (which I have sitting right here and actually checked being writing this), he DOES miss the first throw and have to pull the line back in. So, if you've read the novelization, or are used to something else that runs off an earlier version of the script (like, perhaps, the Story Album), it's possible it was still in the story there, too.

Love the Chewbacca and Vader story. I would have made the same mistake, about them being real and the school playground as well. Even at age 12. Kudos Junkman.

I STILL have that record! The inside booklet is missing, but the cover sleeve and LP itself are in good condition. My cousin had the Disney Rescuers LP and we would play both of them when she would come to visit. Good times.

Decided to check this video out after your part two. As a kid, I thought that the second death star was the original one that just got damaged in a new Hope. I didn’t realize it was a new one being built, thought it was a visual Retcon or something

I remember going to TRU to see Chewbacca, Vader and a Stormie...I have pics somewhere. I knew they weren't the real characters but the costumes were great. That's what I wanted to see. Because, the "touring" Vader costume was pretty much exactly like the filming version. How great was it to see that!!!!

I thought a lot of dumb things about Star Wars when I was a kid as well. For instance when I first watched the prequels I had no idea that Chancellor Palptine was supposed to be The Emperor. (I must have not picked up on the hundreds of hints he gave to Anakin before) I thought he was a “good guy” for a while. I’m ashamed to say that “The Clone Wars” 2008 movie was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw (Yeah I know pretty sad) I remember picking it up from the video store because I had to write a report on George Lucas, before then I had never heard of him. So for some reason I thought the battle droids were only in the clone wars series so when I rented the Phantom Menace for some reason I skipped around on my remote and got to the part where Anakin was firing at the droids in the control ship and I was like “Holy Shit” and I reminded it and watched the whole movie. (I also recognized Jar Jar from the clone wars series partly because that was the only episode I watched of the clone wars series before watching Star Wars) I wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed as you can see. Here’s another story one night (I think in 2007 or 2008) my dad was flipping through channels on the t.v and the ending of return of the Jedi was on and he asked “hey do you like this Star Wars stuff at all?” I came into the room and I saw the scene of The Emperor shocking Luke and Drath Vader killing him. I was shocked I had never seen Star Wars but I obviously knew who Drath Vader was. I talked with my friends about it the next day (Note: their family were Star Wars nuts they even named their dog Chewbacca) they said “Yeah he used to be a Jed in the clone wars” I think it was around the same time the Clone Wars show was starting to Air on Cartoon Network so get this I thought it took place after ROTJ and Anakin got out of the Drath Vader suit and turned good. (I was an idiot kid) Here’s another thing I thought about Star Wars for years and I only found this out a couple years ago, in the the ending of Revenge of the Sith I thought Padme died because of Anakins Force choke, but apparently she was dying because she lost the will to live ( I guess I never picked up on that detail) honestly I wish I never did because the scene works better having Anakin kill the woman he was trying to save, as Sheev said “Ironic” In the opening scene of The phantom menace I thought TC-14 was C3po and she was going to be reprogrammed to become C3po. On the other hand there were a couple scenes I swore I saw in the theater but upon re watched it turned out I was wrong. In the force awakens there was one that one scene where the officer “Screamed we won’t survive even Hux has gone” for some reason I thought in the following scene it was that officer and not Hux that visited Snoke. More recently in the Last Jedi when Finn and Rose are looking through the telescope and see the racing creatures I thought at first they were the creatures Qui Gon Jinn rode on in Tatooine in episode 1 and the creatures Rose and Finn free afterwards were different creatures entirely. (Mandela effect at its finest people)

Don't feel bad, bro! I was a stupid kid too. The guy in the cantina that you thought said "we're wanted, Ben." Well, when I was 5 listening to the Story of Star Wars record...I thought that WAS Ben!!!! (Listen to his voice! He kinda DOES sound like Alec Guinness!! :P) And it isn't just me, when we were watching "The Empire Strikes Back on video and they arrive at Cloud City and 3PO sees a silver protocol droid that looks just like him but speaks another language and Threepio says "How rude!!" My brother thought the other droid said, "Eat your butt!!" :P (Seriously, listen to it!!!) Bottom line is...don't worry bro. You aren't the only one, and you're as deserving to watch Star Wars as the rest of us!! ;D

I only got into Star Wars around the year 2000, so when I heard about the Millenium Falcon, I figured it was a new ship created to celebrate the new millenium. Granted, I hadn't seen the movies and had nothing to go on but the name, but it was still pretty embarrassing in hindsight. Also, when I did see the film, I thought Vader killed Ben by absorbing his body through his lightsaber.

As a kid I was confused by the release order of the movies, because the first one I saw was Revenge of the Sith when I was about 5 or 6, and the DvD copies of the original trilogy we had were all some of the edited versions with CG. I mainly remember being confused and thinking the Ewoks were just young Wookies and wondering why they were letting a bunch of alien kids fight the empire's military.
