Your advice on this video helped me to get the job done right! Thank you very much!! I used to give my wife a break every weekend and make breakfast for the kids. Mostly waffles or pancakes. When you said to make the mud the same consistency, it was easy to do so. I kept mixing and adding a little water at a time until it was just right. It was my first time using a hopper but your video was a great guide and I am pleased with the result. I heard you have not been feeling great. I hope that you start to feel better soon. In regards to coverage for orange peel. Is there supposed to be a complete layer of texture covering the board or will there be small gaps of the actual board showing through? Also, when you say you go over it in 2 or 3 passes, is that all in one session, or do you let it setup and then do additional passes over it? Thanks, great videos and knowledge you have.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hey, coverage can be 100% or way less. You create the look you want, and it's all done in one session with no setup time and additional passes. Just like in this video.
@diehardfan1733 жыл бұрын
Applying drywall compound requires several different passes and then between it must dry. Sometimes, sanding as needed if there are too many rough spots. Indentations can be covered with more Compound. The idea is to cover the seams and the wall with an even layer of compound So that it looks like one solid surface

The USG orange peel video shows to prime the Sheetrock before applying orange peel. It appears that most contractors apply orange peel directly to Sheetrock before priming. What have you found to be the difference between the two techniques? I have several large sections (ex. 3’ x 6’) of patches walls to cover.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY2 жыл бұрын
When I did new construction with my father, we never ever primed first. And it worked just fine. I think the main difference is if you’re doing knock down, you will get a longer, more even hold out and a more even knock down. But with orange peel, I don’t feel like it matters.

Here's a video to get you started on that- kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGjdhKSQnad7gNE As for the best covering spray texture, knockdown is good, or a heavy orange peel. How good of a finish does the drywall need to be before spraying a light orange peel texture?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Flat joints, very minor defects, very minor edges.

Hey bro! I use that same texture machine. I seen to have to replace it once a year. Are my guys just not taking cafe of it right? Or does that seem about normal?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
None of the texture sprayers under $200 are really built that well and if you use them a lot they will wear out. But if they’re not cleaned and lubed regularly they will wear out faster. I’m going to review some texture sprayers soon that are faster, starting at $250 and going up to several thousand so be watching for that review. Hey, thanks so much for commenting and for subscribing. With your help we can blast past 100,000 subscribers and more!

⭐HEY, I just now released an ebook about How to Spray a Knockdown texture that could be really helpful to you. It takes my whole video even further with things like photos showing how a medium knockdown should look when sprayed, and when knocked down. It lists the tools and supplies needed, how to mix the texture, how to adjust the sprayer in more detail, and so much more. Check it out and I think you'll find it very helpful if you plan to do this texture. Here's the link to it in my Etsy store. www.etsy.com/listing/969964231/how-to-spray-knockdown-texture-ebook?ref=shop_home_active_1 I'll be releasing one specifically for spraying Orange Peel texture as well, and may do a combined version also.

Should I prime my wall before applying texture?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY5 жыл бұрын
I never have, but it would give you a more consistent knockdown, and I believe it's recommended.
@curtisbme4 жыл бұрын
Lots of arguments about it from contractors from different areas. Net is that you don't have to but it if you don't it *might* telegraph more over taped areas as it will dry faster on those areas than on the drywall paper. If you are doing heavier texture I could see this being more of a problem as it might flatten out more on the paper and be more bumpy on the seams. But all of that is *might* and you will find plenty of people swearing to both positions with their "been a drywaller for XX years and never had a callback!"

Have you ever heard of putting dishwash soap in with your taping mud to take out air bubbles?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and I don’t think it helps. I’ve tried it and I can’t tell if it makes any difference. I will be testing that one day soon
@josiahkloeckl97193 жыл бұрын
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Same here, I don’t think it helps either. I feel like if it’s mixed well enough with your mixer you shouldn’t have any air bubbles in it. Have you used your hopper (after the mud is cleaned obviously haha) for painting at all and then back rolling? I am thinking about trying that next time I paint .
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY3 жыл бұрын
I seriously doubt it would work well and I’d go with an 18” roller first

Thank you sir for the video. I have the exact same Hopper. Your video helped so much. The only question I have is what kind of air compressor are you using? Are pancake air compressors sufficient?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY5 жыл бұрын
Any compressor that puts out at least 3-4 cfm can work. Higher CFM is better.

@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Thank you for the response. Today I sprayed orange peel in a kitchen with the exact same Hopper. I used the rigid 2.6 @ 35 psi. It worked good but the air compressor constantly ran. I learned a valuable lesson today with regards to mixing. I mixed a whole box of multipurpose and used like 10% wasted a whole box. I also should have watered the mudd better but it still spit. I realize now that I should have primered before hand as that would have made it easier to apply consistency. It looks good but patches and so forth made it hard to see. I also need to use better lighting next time. I'm a handyman 10+ years but this was my first time doing it myself. Homeowners are happy. What's your opinion on sanding orange peel? Sanding off high points and making small plateaus?
