Looking great, I'm enjoying this tt1:20 project. The only suggestions I have is that you can achieve a smoother texture with those bandages if you smooth them over with your hand a bit of water. The other would be maybe split that big field into a two or three?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
Really glad you're enjoying it! You can just see in some of the timelapse shots I was smoothing out plaster bandage. The issue was the overlapping joins not the texture of bandage itself. For the field we deliberately decided to go with one big one as fields are often much bigger than what modellers tend represent. It's a "less is more" approach that I've used on my other layouts and has worked really well in the past. Thanks for watching 😃

The cottage would have an older feel to it if the stones were not laid in obvious lines. Check some pictures of cottages in the Cotswold and then new-builds. The difference is striking.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
The stone pattern on the cottage was copied from a real building. But if there's enough demand we can absolutely look into doing one with a more varied pattern, like on the 00 gauge version. Thanks for watching 😃

This might be totally out there but it might be cool to put a magnorail system into the road or perhaps the field with some farming equipment like a tractor? Loving how it's coming along
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
We did briefly consider it but every time I've seen the magnorail system I'm always aware of just how loud it is. Honestly it felt like something we wouldn't use this much and as I'm building this layout for my Dad, I don't think he'd appreciate the extra cost 😅 I would love to try something along those lines someday though! @ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
I don't think there's any reason to feel like an outcast, it's all the same hobby after all. And all the techniques, tips and tricks can be shared across multiple scales. I don't think the people who model in P4 or EM would feel like outcasts for example. Thanks for watching 😃

how do you think the re-nationalisation of railways will affect modelling ?? UK RAIL with maybe express, freight and suburban liveries ? not having to collect all those private companies rolling stock ?
@anthonyfisher-70906 ай бұрын
I don't think there will be any major changes for a good few years. The government's plan is to let the contracts run out unless there's a breach of the contract and some don't run out till 2030 I believe. The first one runs out October this year, a few next year and so on so it might be a while before we see everything all under one umbrella.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
I think it'll be a while before we start to see things really changing. As for how it impacts modelling, it'll mostly be new liveries for modern image locos/trains. It could potentially affect people like Accurascale who like doing the special one-off liveries if everything becomes more consistent though. Thanks for watching 😃
@asteroidrules6 ай бұрын
@@anthonyfisher-7090Also modeling the present-day is oddly niche. Most model rail layouts tend to be from various past eras and even the more modern themed ones tend to go for heritage railroads.

Nice job, would it help to use a wallpaper roller over the joins in the wet modroc?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
Possibly but it would depend on the surface underneath you're woking on. For foam like this it might help but on a chicken wire frame for example you won't be able to add enough pressure. Probably adding some filler to the surface would be a better bet. Thanks for watching 😃

coming along nicely. just a question on spraying the watered down pva close to the tracks. does this not compromise them or do you have a clean up after doing it? cheers stu
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
It's no different than when we ballast our track by putting the pva directly on it. When it's dry you can just run a track rubber over it as you normally would when cleaning your rails and that will remove the PVA film. Thanks for watching 😃
@rossmorrow30136 ай бұрын
An alternative to a track rubber is simply a small block of wood, or the same block of wood but with a bit of cloth wrapped around it, and a small amount of alcohol, as this won’t scratch your rails the way I discovered when using z gauge and n gauge and then attracts dirt into the scratches!
