Not many people can say they have driven or worked on 1965 912, I have. I recall having a friends 912 for repairs, the carbs were in desperate need of a throttle shaft re-bush, rather than replace with Webers we had the original Solex's re-bush'ed, with new butterflys. The difference was night, and day one all synced up the sound is all to familiar. In stock configuration that little 912 was pretty poppy...

What a hoot of a car to drive I bet! I was absolutely captivated until the very end of the drive where you mentioned the price...unless I win a very, very nice lottery there won't be one of these in my garage! The best measure of the car and how it likely feels was the unfettered laughter and the look on your face Lee!

I've owned several 912's and many pre-74 911's, the 912's were indeed much lighter, when the gas tank was low the front end was light, I'd get a lot of understeer and the steering effort went to near zero. They could absorb bumps like nothing as well. Great cars.

This car is going in the right direction. Saving weight is the priority over fancy power figures. However, the same can probably be achieved by dipping the body without the need for CF but I suppose some people have to have CF which is probably why the car is expensive.

interested to hear how you're getting 200+ hp out of the 616... some pretty hefty numbers that are higher than the best 616 builders out there. A lot of power for those 3 main bearing cases. Probably why a lot of the high end 356 guys are switching to 4cy 964 builds for longevity's sake.

Do you have any additional info on the engine? I have a 69' 912 with a 68' engine and have been looking for a nice rebuild. I love the Polo engines but they are very pricey and I don't have a 964 engine sourced. Also, I'm curious how the JPS cooling works with the 911 style fan. From what I've seen in the from other builds, that style doesn't translate well to 4 cylinders. Last, which model 901 are they running? I currently have a 911/01 which is supposedly stronger but was rough to get the push/pull clutch to work with the 912 engine. Thanks.

interesting shifter set up, seems like a great solution to the only thing I never loved about early porsches. 964 solved it finally.
@marklangren31422 жыл бұрын
You can build a relatively low cost 912 that will run with early 911's . 912 motor to 125 hp. Update to vented discs, aluminum M calipers and if you can find them 7" American Mags made of magnesium.
@Andrew-vx2ls2 жыл бұрын
Agreed except magnesium wheels have a limited (safe) life span as you probably know. It is possible to find aluminium wheels that are just as light.

Now, this is my idea of intelligence in hot-rodding. Remove unnecessary weight, including using a lighter 4 cylinder Porsche boxer engine rather than the typical 6 cylinder, and retaining a much higher level of reliability as well as handling. This car is beautifully detailed and so thoughtfully done. Intelligence, folks, not just horsepower. :)
