Ronald Regans Administration gave inmates the right to sue.. after that, lawsuits from within the prison shaped policy and procedures all across the nation. Prior to Ronald Regan, prisons were not monitored. Wardens were appointed by the governor for long periods of time. As lawsuits demanded better facilities and training, the pay went up. I was a Corrections Officer in 1997, making $10.00 an hour working for a state prison. The money came in the 90s and early 2000s.. The prison system was deconstructed in the courts and allowed by UNIONS!!!!

That part of being taught/trained when you first started really resonated with me. I genuinely feel like the training I received was excellent. Now when new staff start on the floor out of the academy, they’re given a set of keys and radio and told to have a good shift. Absolutely terrible how far downhill training has gone. A lack of proper training and frontline supervisors that don’t do their job is why retention is so low in my agency. Add in low morale and administration that are more interested in bringing in donuts for the inmates and told the staff it’s not for them and you can see the problem.

Hey LT, I maybe off subject, but your channel is about corruption, jails/CDCR, etc. Would you say prison guards are the same as the regular jail CEOs? In the past, I met this 1 officer who was good-looking amd seemed like a good guy. i thought i came up. We went out and heard how inhumane he talked w/ his fellow workers about treatment in those places had me walk away. Like boy, did your mother really raise you to act that way, or was it taught.
