I NEED a GOOD Pinto Bean recipe!! My Daddy used to make them & I only remember him using the Beans, maybe a Hamhock(?), & we'd put diced Onions in after with Fresh Cornbread!!! My childhood girlfriend tried making me some when I visited her years ago & tho it was nice, it just didn't have Daddy's Flavor*Touch to it.

Watching from Hamburg, Germany, where I hve lived for the last 54 years. I'm 88 and miss the delicious food my grandmammy used to make in Oakman, Alabama.when I get homesick, I go down to the local McDonalds and gobble down a big Mac. This recipe provides a welcome alternative. Definitely with ham hock. Guten Appetit!

I do a thirty minute boil. Drain and rinse. Followed by fresh water. This barely wrinkles the skin and the beans only take a couple of hours after that. I like to fry about 1/4 pound of pan sausage high heat and pour about a cup of water into the browned sausage to get all of the stuck brown out of the pan into the beans. Follow up with little Smokeys to warm just before finished.

Hello! Writing from San Diego, CA! This is the best bean soup EVER! I was a little skeptical about adding the orange juice at the end, but it’s genius and makes the soup tastes SO good! Who would’ve thought! The only bad thing is that it took the beans much longer to cook than 50 minutes (more like six hours). Guess next time I’ll boil them for ten minutes, then soak them overnight, instead of just soaking them 20 minutes, as you suggest. Other than that, your recipe is very easy to follow and makes one very delicious pot of pinto bean soup! Thank you! 🙏

Casserole brand beans will cook this quick, but not others...
@milomilo55Ай бұрын
@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 Those looked like pinto beans and I've never seen or heard of any brand of dried pinto beans become tender with only a 20 minute soak and less than an hour cook time. Are "casserole" brand beans pre-cooked? I've never heard of that brand.
@trailerparkcryptoking5213Ай бұрын
@@milomilo55 the brand “Casserole” markets different types of dried bagged beans. Their pinto beans will cook tender in a pot on the stove in 50 minutes without soaking. If you soak them overnight it knocks about 10 minutes off the cooking time. Now if you put them in a pressure cooker they are done in 25 minutes under pressure. If you go 35 minutes they fall apart and look like mashed up refried beans. Not every store carries the Casserole brand, but in Texas they are easy to find and I buy mine at HEB. My dad turned me on to them in the mid 1980’s because of how quick they cook and they taste great also..... I usually still soak over night and slow cook mine in a crockpot on low most of the day with bacon, onions, garlic and chopped fresh jalapeños because IMO they develop much more flavor with the long slower cook time. If your store doesn’t carry them check Amazon. Tip: I cut the outside off the jalapeno and dice it fine and don’t use the center core where all the heat is....it adds great flavor without the spicy heat.

Not for me. Beans were always meant to be a cheap meal. You have to get tomatoes, bay leaves, a lime, an orange and an onion. We just do ours like Grandma did, she had 13 kids with 52 grand kids and that was last count in 1988 when she passed. Just beans and bacon grease. Meat if she had some but usually not. ❤ Yum Yum with water corn bread.

Where do you buy your groceries that bay leaves, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, and orange juice are breaking the bank, but you can afford bacon? Literally everything but the orange juice should be staples for your pantry, and cost a fraction of what bacon does. No lime, by the way. But hey, if it doesn't look good to you that's fine. Everyone has different tastes and the right to enjoy them. Have a day😅
