That’s what happens when you have an inept manager, whose only skill is to wrap their arm around the players and whisper in to their ear how wonderful they are, and how mean the press are. It’s a deflection tactic, which stops them from blaming Southgate for the thoroughly crap performances they are dishing up every single match. Southgate knows it’s his last hurrah so he doesn’t care about destroying the fan/player relationship. It’s a us against them mentality and Southgate is poking that fire. England's saving grace is they have several world class players, such as Bellingham, that for games when the system and the tactics aren't working, they single-handedly manage to change the tide and win the game. Some of these WC players are not even starters in Southgate's lineups. Such a tragic waste of talent.
