You're right that the main reason people hated on Sol Campbell was his move from one rival to another, and also that racism was much more prevalent and obvious back then. I remember as a teenager watching England play Scotland (I'm Scottish btw) and there were open and loud racial slurs calling him a bl*** bastard every time he touched the ball. He no doubt experienced racist abuse so attributes the hate he got with racism and bigotry.

The thing is, yes they haven’t got goals but as long as they stay as solid defensively as they have been they don’t need loads of goals. Their problem seems to be the general player has slowed down and the missed chances and while I know Arsenal have had loads of shots and people keep saying they have loads of chances, I personally don’t think they’ve been good. Arsenal will be in this but I have to say we need to a good gap between us by the time Saka returns else Arsenal will be confident in the final stretch. Although, as a Liverpool fan while I’ve never said we have won this league we’re definitely in a great position one Arsenal would love to be in.

In terms of all round skillset and consistent top-level quality, which striker is better than Isak? Kane and Lewa are past their heyday and have lost some mobility. Gyokeres has never played in a top league Haaland has shown how reliant he is on service into the box. Isak can do it all. Pace, intelligence, flair, dribbling, finishing, physicality. His prem record is 46 goals and 8 assists in 71 games... fantastic numbers. People seem to forget he got 21 league goals last season and 10 from just 17 starts the season before. People are making too much of Arsenal beating Spurs. It took an own goal from a corner that shouldn't have been a corner, and a howler from the Spurs goalkeeper to win the game. And Spurs didn't turn up at all. Arsenal did nothing up front again and Spurs could have got the draw with a bit of luck in the Arsenal box. Nothing from Arsenal last night makes me worry yet. I genuinely believe that Liverpool can afford to drop another 9-10 points.

I think the simple explanation is that noone hated Sol Campbell for his race, but after he pulled off one of the most ratty moves in Prem history, it was very easy in that day and age to direct racial slurs at him as a way to ventilate your anger. I am SURE he had to hear a lot of it, but i think it rooted in the way he made them feel to begin with, not the fact he was a black man. As tragic as it is, when we are angry we aim for the jugular, and race is a very loaded, offensive way to cause that damage. I don't think it's right, but i think what he did, not his color, was the root of what then made people act out of order.
