I still think that was more forgivable than this just because bad snaps have happened before. I mean it was terrible but that's a mistake you couldn't really recover from. To have 29 seconds sitting there and the coach not think about calling a timeout is still a couple of tiers above that in ridiculous

I was the replay operator for CBS that replayed the clocks look on that final play. We were in stunned disbelief in the truck that this could happen. This play goes up there with the most reuses of any play I’ve replayed in my 30+ year career in sports television production.

Here's a fun stat. The Bears lost 4 games: Commanders, Packers, Vikings and Lions trailing by a grand total of 1 point when the regulation clock read 0:00. They were up by 3 vs Commanders when the clock read 0:00 only to have them score a TD. They were down by 1 to the Packers when the FG got blocked, they tied the Vikings and lost to Lions by three. If Eberflus had kicked the EP instead of going for 2 like he should have in the Lions game they would have a had a net score differential of 0 in those 4 games when only one went to OT. That's almost impossible to do.

I'm not even a Belichick fan but he would be a lot better than a guy who was the passing game coordinator just a few days ago. He doesn't have the experience yet to be a HC. Interim? Sure. But full time? No, we need someone with multiple years of success in their back pocket either as a coordinator or HC Edit: I think I would even prefer giving Daboll a chance. That said, it kind of shows Caleb's current leadership ability as well a bit when he couldn't think to do it either. To be clear, this dumpster fire wasnot on Williams mostly but it also still wasn't a great sign about his current ability for his position at this level either IMO. Everyone watching regardless of their knowledge of football knew they needed to call a T.O. Everyone but the two people actually able to do so apparently.

The Bears had three timeouts available when Washington scored from the Hail Mary. When I watched it live I couldn’t believe the coach didn’t call time out because it was obvious that the players weren’t set and didn’t have their minds on the job. Then during the Detroit game when 20 or so seconds were on the clock the camera showed the coaches face and it was blatantly obvious that the gears behind the big round googly eyes were seized up.
