@ElectronFieldPulse

I don’t know how I feel about Perna shilling for a gambling company so he can make a million dollars… It will cause a lot of people to lose a lot of their money, and those people usually won’t have nearly as much money as Perna even before a million dollars… Seems a bit scummy

@@16easports - What are the chances people sign up and don’t bet? It would be like begging his audience to have 10 thousand people buy a little coke, but you don’t have to use it! Of course they will use it. Gambling often leads to addiction and it ruins lives. It certainly is a net negative for the majority of people who do it. I don’t think Perna is a bad guy per se, but he certainly is promoting shady things for his own financial benefit. You can view that as just normal capitalism, but it is a bit different when it involves addictive products which have the potential to ruin lives.

As a college football player, my whole life playing football I never had a major injury before. Now in college across four years I’ve had a major surgery, multiple concussions, broken bones, torn muscles, etc. The level of play/speed/violence is different. Honestly, it’s a miracle these guys who are pros survive a pro season non-injured, it’s just the nature of the game.

Cousins is 35. When I was growing up, a QB who was 35 was like in the 1% of age bracket. You knew that guy was washed up and done at that point. Now dudes are playing to their 40s while being better conditioned and more explosive. Tendons and ligaments breaking and tearing more seems inevitable. I think the NFL needs to lean harder into being a higher rate of substitution type of game. Larger rosters, and maybe snap count caps per game and per season to limit accrued damage. Spread some of that money to the lower half of the roster. This way they'll develop more and the league should be more robust. Not solving the problem, just mitigating.

Lmfao dude kirk hurt his achilles on a grass field because he wore the wrong cleats. Most of these injuries happen due to guys not wearing the proper cleats. Firm ground shoes should never ever be worn on turf yet what did rodgers wear? Firm ground shoes. Also not every team owns their stadium. Minnesota taxpayers are on the hook for any upgrades or maintenance done at u.s. bank stadium and the stadium isn't designed for a grass field lol. It is impossible to do grass there.

I honestly think athletes now are just that much better as physical specimens than they used to be. Basically you have a body of rubber bands being pulled super tight by muscles that are trying to make players faster, quicker, and more agile, eventually one of them are going to snap. Hell Dre Greenlaw had a tear just hopping up in down on the sidelines getting "warmed up" to go back in the game during the Super Bowl. That wasn't a turf related tear, that wasn't because he was making a big cut or anything, just a rubber band that eventually gave out.

Muscles and bones can heal much better than connective tissue, and also grow with training much more. There's a reason elite athletes tear tendons and ligaments so much more than regular people, especially athletes like powerlifters whose muscles are near the limits of human development

The playing surface is definitely a thing but exercise science also points to a lack of mobility/flexible strength…these dudes are all super muscular and heavy but a good amount of them probably aren’t spending enough time working on range of motion and strengthening stabilizing muscles around joints. In Rodgers & others cases though, even the best conditioning doesn’t really matter when a 300 pounder jumps on you & adds all their weight to your flexed lower leg.

How much of these increased incidents of Achilles issues can be attributed to players becoming ever stronger, thus outpacing what the Achilles tendon is able to weather? It's like if I do upgrades and work on an engine in a Honda Civic so that it can go 200mph, the tires will fly apart since they were never rated for that kind of speed, or the input shaft will warp from the excessive torque.... Most parts of the body adjust as the muscle near them become stronger (and a muscle will cap out if there's too large an offset). The Achilles appears to be one of those things that can only be strengthened so far.

Yeah, but also 20 years ago an ACL tear was a career ending injury.... I do think that the number of soft tissue/non-contact injuries is a problem.

I wonder how much of this effect is like those planes in WWII where they were trying to figure out where to put armor. Maybe we are seeing more achilles because the other injuries have gone down?

I love how Rodgers offered Cousins advice on how to recover from an Achilles rupture while he hadn't recovered from the injury himself.

Ive been saying this for years. Its time to increase the roster size. Id say we NEED at least 60, if not 75 per team. There also needs to be a second bye week. ESPECIALLY if they are going to keep pushing for longer regular seasons. Cause right now the game isnt who is the best team from the most balanced league in sports. Its just injury management and thats not actually football.

There has ALWAYS been an injury problem in the NFL ! Another factor though is that, with vastly improved training and physio, players are enjoying much longer careers. Aging joints and muscles tend to fail at some point. No surprises.

12:55 Packer fan here, valid numbers and stats here, it was a bad year for Rodgers, but uh, it was maybe our worst roster the entire time Rodgers was here. Virtually no receivers with diminished run production. It wasn’t a good time for anybody.

I played on 2000s turf and grass when growing up. Some grass fields are way way worse than turf and i was expected to play on them. Players need to suck it up. 80s nfl played on garbage astroturf.
