I am an 84 yr old Angelina fanboy . I discovered her a couple yrs ago. I saw a little 7 yr old with big hair and a mouth full of goofy teeth who could sing like nobody I ever heard before. I fell in love. She was without a doubt a prodigy. Today she is the best vocalist on the planet. You young people have a great future listening to this beautiful person. I thank GOD that he has left me around here so I could experience this wonderful person. Thank you for promoting Angelina, keep it up.

I believe Angelina's "tessitura" would be contralto. Her range extends into soprano of course, but her strength is in the lower register. This is as opposed to most pop singers who are typically the other way around (sopranos who are stronger at the upper end). This is also how Angelina can sing covers in the same key and range as tenors like Frank Sinatra or Elvis (react to Angelina's "How Great Thou Art" if you want to hear her featuring her lower register).

Because she is rooted in jazz from when she was a tot, her ability to apply jazz like passionate inflections separates her from all non-jazz singers attempting ballads like this. I believe Amy Winehouse was a big influence on Angelina, and Amy was the undisputed previous Queen Of Jazz which Angelina now holds title to.

Angelina has a pretty big range that she can control in a very good natural way, relaxed and with a beautiful vibrato (if you like that). Although it's very warm in the lower register and sometimes powerful in the high I think her best notes are in the middle! She is somewhat between a contralto and a mezzo is my guess. She might develope extra techniques that give her more high, but for me the most important is her sense of beauty in the music, her timing, dynamics and inflections are extraordinary! Just like her emotional understanding of the lyrics ánd the music! This performance (again in one take) is sublime! Nice reaction of you!!!

Not sure who posted this. But I copied and saved it for reference. I had never heard of Contralto until I saw this. Where does Angelina's deep voice come from? How does she do some of the amazing things we hear from her voice? Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6' give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman. (1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published. (2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics. (3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used. It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or, B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius. So you are not the first to take note of this.

You talked about how "you" (anyone) can't go listen to the original version of a song after hearing Angelina's cover of it, because she's sung it so perfectly it ruins the original… I feel like I've actually said that very thing to you in a previous comment (not that I'm saying you got it from me - many people have independently come to the same conclusion). This has happened to me _so_ many times, it's ridiculous (although in the cases I'm talking about, I was already familiar [I thought!] with the originals). It happened with Lana. It happened with Adele. It happened with Whitney Houston. After hearing Angelina's versions of (some of) their songs (and not just hearing them, but becoming _extremely_ familiar with them by watching many, many reactions to them), revisiting the originals revealed them to be either dull and lifeless by comparison or, at the other extreme, overblown and "strained", depending on the song and artist. It got to the point where I kind of dreaded listening to the originals, and for a time I just stopped doing that altogether. (I've resumed, to some extent, now that she's doing more covers of songs I'm not already familiar with.) I can't say that everything she's sung is my cup of tea, stylistically apeaking (especially very recently), but I can easily agree with your statement that she is "one of the best female vocalists, ever", and I truly hope that she can "stay true to herself", regardless of whether that means she sticks with what I personally like or diverges from it.

Wonderful reaction! This 12-year-old has the literally unbelievable ability to deliver a song like nobody else. There are no mortal words to describe it. We can only accept God's gift to this world, embodied in Angelina, and be thankful. You will be disappointed in Lana Del Ray's rendition of her song. Great songwriter (I think she wrote it...) but not so good on the singing end. I love Angelina big time! But I have to disagree with you - Lana Del Rey has an amazing voice!! Not to take anything away from Angelina - she is perfection, but so is Lana Del Rey!

I am a fan of Angelina but dare I say it? I prefer the lethargy in the original and the monotone phrasing by Lana for this song.
