Suda51 was probably at his most consistent/w releases during the PS3 era. Giving us notable cult classics such as Shadows of the Damned, Lolipop Chainsaw, porting NMH1 as Heroes' Paradise, Killer is Dead, and Sine Mora. But even more criminally underrated is Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day. A fast pace side scroller with more hilarious WTFs than levels, and delivers a unique sense of creepiness at times. It's the most Suda51 thing since Killer7, and if you're wondering why No More Heroes 3 had those weird Anime art style cut scenes. This title was its homage point.

It was in development hell for quite a while. There were two cancelled Twisted Metal games by the studio that made TM (PS3) before that didnt make it past the alpha stage. There was also Harbor City which was intended to be a large open world game on the PS2 which got cancelled. Twisted Metal Black on the PS2 was meant to be even darker and more unsettling but the company making the games then (different from PS3 TM) was told to tone it down. Unfortunate because we could have gotten a much more thrilling series entirely if all those story aspects got explored. Before PS2, Twisted Metal was not that serious of a game and its most shocking part was the game's endings. On PS3 they had a sliver of hope but unfortunately Sony completely gave up on it along with inFamous, Jak, Ratchet and Clank, etc.

I shouted YES when Tales of Graces F was mentioned. I was so excited to see the Tales of series coming back to the west after something of a dry spell that I had to support it, and I wasn't disappointed! The characters have so much charm that it kept me going, and the combat system is among my favorites in any RPG. I liked it enough to go for a Platinum trophy. The Future arc expanded on enough that it made the entire game felt complete. My only complaint was that it took me a while to get used to playing other Tales games with how different their combat systems are, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing! Can't forget the skits! Crablettes! INSTANT BALLS! And probably some other stuff. Thank you for including Graces F on this list.

Twisted Metal on PS3 had so much potential, gameplay was super fun and the presentation was great, it could have ended up being the best in the series and spawn many more games, but sadly the game was so heavily rushed it released as a very noticably unfinished product. I really liked Homefront. It was a poor man's Call of Duty, but I thought it had enough of its own ideas to be its own thing. I have a soft spot for cover based shooters like Inversion. They didn't really do much and I can understand the backlash they have received, but it was the style at the time.
@roguerifter97242 жыл бұрын
I had fun with it as well though if I had paid anything close to full price for it I would probably be less forgiving since I very rarely play FPS games in multiplayer. I picked it up for $15 from a bargain bin in I believe either December 2011 or January or February 2012. I didn't get my PS3 until November 2011 but left for a family road trip soon after and didn't get back until Christmas Eve. I'm pretty sure I got Homefront after getting home but before the one year anniversary though it might have been one of the few PS3 games I got before the trip. Edit: Checking my trophies it looks like I got the game before, or perhaps during the road trip, played a couple of chapters right after I got back then set the game aside and restarted or finished it almost a year later because I beat the first two chapters Dec 26 2011 but didn't beat the rest of the game until October 2012. I got several games before or during that trip so I was probably playing the early sections of the games I had never played before to sort out a priority order.

How well does Inversion system-link/LAN/LAN-tunneling hold up? Homefront, if picked up cheap, would be worth the online MP when equipping family and friends with it. How does its online play hold up to today's expectations (when populated)?
@Lungoomba212 жыл бұрын
Tales of Graces f shines the best with it's battle system: the Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System. Developed by Team Destiny from Namco Tales Studio, this is a more developed iteration of their previous games, starting with Tales of Destiny 2 (not Eternia, which got localized as Tales of Destiny II in roman numerals) where they made use of fast paced combat that incentivizes combos, which is why they made away with the basic TP(MP) system that Team Symphonia used for Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, etc. It's been a while since I played this game, so I'm a little iffy on what I say here so any help with clarifying the gameplay is appreciated. So what makes this battle system interesting is that each character has their own two styles to fight where A artes handle basic combo racking that's mostly physical and are faster to execute but it's relegated to an arte tree that can't be mapped to any joystick while B is more slower to execute but deals a good amount of damage and joystick mapping is fully customizable. To me, B artes are the flashiest artes you will see, the final artes on the A arte tree comes close to that level. Healing and Offensive Magic Artes are located on B artes usually. Alternating between both helps you heal up overtime when in A artes and B artes help give you defense and Iron Stance (I think) and know when to change properly between them because some chatacters A to B is more faster than going B to A and vice versa, or you may get in a lot of trouble if you get staggered, which is super common in this game. Conserve and upgrade both your min and max CC and block often and you'll handle it. I think this is the most I can say about it, it is absolutely one of my favorite games in one of my absolute favorite game series and I'm glad its being showcased here in this video, go give it a try if you can!

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is SUCH a sick game! I don't usually care for super slow games like that, but damn it surprised me. Kinda reminds me of The Last Guardian in a way. @@thatvideogamesshow How do you capture your footage on the PS3? I swear it looks better than what I remember when playing on my PS3 slim. Knights contract is another game I've never heard of, looks interesting. I live in a PAL territory and wish I could buy Siren blood curse for a decent pricw. But it's way too much for what I'm willing to pay for a PS3 game. It's not unaffordable, but just expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth that money. I can get like 5/6 games at a thrift store for that price. (then I have to add shipping as well so say 7 games). Still looking for it, at a good price. Man there's a lot of "tales of... " games. Glad I got killer is dead on Xbox one when there was a backcombat sale. Though I did need to change my region to Nort America and buy a gift card. It has been almost 10 years since i've last played Knighs Contract, so my mind would probably change if i played it today. However, i remember getting pretty frustrated with it (no, never finished it), mainly because of the out of nowehere QTEs. But hey, at least it wasnt as bad as "Never Dead" (different reason tho). Anything from Suda51 is niche and basically underrated................maybe outside of No More Heroes. Thats the appeal to his stuff, he doesnt make games for the major audience, never did and probably never will. Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, Shadows of the Damned, Killer7, Sine Mora, Silver Case, Ranko Tsukigime, Michigan: Report From Hell,.....take your pick. Similar goes for the Ryu Ga Gotoku franchise as well (Yakuza in the west..................and yes, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is in fact Yakuza 7 and should have been titled as such). Now, if you go for suggestions, then i would throw at you (if you havent covered them already): Sengoku Basara 3 (Samurai Heroes in the west, also the last from the franchise to ever being released in the west), 3 Utage, 4 and 4 Sumeragi Alice: Madness Returns House of the Dead Overkill The Darkness F1 Race Stars Asuras Wrath (not really as a game tho, more of an Anime experience) Splatterhouse Ridge Racer 7 Overlord Fairytail Fights Puppeteer Test Drive Unlimited 2 Way of the Samurai Ar Nosurge Eternal Sonata Blur El Shaddai (the contrast to Dante's Inferno)
@culturedbrother2 жыл бұрын
@@warehousedave7937 He could have done that. But in the end its a rather hard subject (at least i think it is) because what actually qualifies as criminally underrated anyway or what is the distinction between criminally underrated and forgotten (as he also has those kind of videos)? Would the whole "Atelier" J-RPG series be underrated (until Atelier Ryza) because those are very niche games but the whole series is massive? Similar with Earth Defense Force or even Oneechanbara (and yes, i think all of those to be damn good series but as beloved as they should be...........and everybody else might disagree with that). Or are examples like Bulletstorm, Brutal Legends, Shellshock or Resistance the ones that should matter for lists like these? Kinda confused to be honest.

Inversion is a really good game! It is a copy of gears of war done right. The story is full of plot twists and the gameplay is fun. But i recommend to play it on PC because on PS3 the frame rate is terrible

I’ll second that the PC version is the best way to play it.

Homefront was supposed to be the C.O.D. killer. I enjoyed the game along with Homefront 2. They are not bad games if you love games.

“Killer is Dead” was soooooo good!!! I think it had better story and characters than “No More Heroes” honestly, and MUCH better gameplay than that series! But the “woke” U.S. game journalists probably slammed it hard because of a mini game where you have to try to stare at women’s cleavage or other features without upsetting them. I wasn’t a fan of that when I first heard of the gameplay feature, but when playing, found it to be fun and, more importantly, FUNNY! So, if you guys like Suda 51 and “No More Heroes”, give “Killer is Dead” a try, (it’s also on Steam), it’s really that good.

Inversion is okay. Definitely better than both Mindjack and Quantum Theory. I did like Homefront at launch. Shame Frontlines Fuel of War didn't release on PS3. Same devs. Game is available on Steam and backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. I'd like to get Knights Contract. Haven't seen a copy in a long while though. I hope it gets remasterd. Sucks that Siren didn't get a physical copy in the US. At least the digital copy was still available. Wish Killer 7 got rereleased on PS3. I don't think its remaster is available on current consoles. Killer is Dead is backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X too at least. I'd add Asura's Wrath to this list. Even if Capcom went full Crapcom by cutting out the true ending of the game to sell as dlc. Man was Capcom rotten during that gen with stuff like on disc dlc.

Some great suggestion there mate, I’ll have to check out fuel of war! I’ve never heard of it!

@That Video Games Show, Frontline: Fuel of War is made by the same devs who did Homefront. It's on Steam and sold both physical and digitally on Xbox 360. Xbox copy is backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. During sales, you can buy it dirt cheap on Steam or Xbox.

I see Killer is dead as a misopportunity rather than an underated game. The stages were way too short and not exploiting all the potential the gameplay had to offer.

Man I've heard of all of these due to them being on lists like this, heck I played two of these games recently Homefront and Inversion, both I liked for various reasons, I didn't finish Inversion due to being stuck on a boss, got to the part the plot goes in such a wild and mad direction that hasn't been touched by any games I can recall, wouldn't mind seeing Inversion, heck all the titles on this list getting ReReleases, they all deserve the attention.
