It's like a Trailfinder 2, but, um, smaller! RC4WD has released a small version of the very popular leaf-sprung crawler, with some not so subtle modifications. Is this something you'll add to your collection?

Definitely think rc4wd dropped the ball on this. There's tons of 1/24 scale rigs good and bad that they could of took notes and made an absolute monster. But nope.

most are not true 1/24 scale, just advertised that way. There are always improvements to be made.

@@tgh117 you are correct. But neither are our 1/10 scale rigs. There will always be a size difference. But I was referring to functionality. This seems pretty useless compared to the scx24 which are excellent machines right out of the box.
@tgh117
@tgh117 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ryanlk69 It does not even belong remotely compared to scx24. It is way smaller, and much more in line with the 1/32 orlandoo type trucks, or the true scale 1/24 Geko. For its size and the upgraded N30 motor its actually pretty good out of the box. The scx24 is only the best at the moment because they took all the good stuff from teh losi trekker and incorporated it into a nice clean package. i agree its the probably the most capable out of the box in the current micro market, but it too could be better.

Okay. In case RC4WD is reading the comments, here is some (hopefully) constructive criticism. I like the idea of a true-to-scale 1/24th scale crawler. However, the sacrifices required to get there do not result in a good user experience for most people. The Axial SCX24 is undoubtedly the market leader and it's one of the least scale-accurate micro crawlers. The inaccuracies (wheel and tire size, worm gears, wheelbase, track width, etc.) all add up to offer improved performance while still capturing the idea/image of the full-size trucks they're based upon. The micro crawler community has taken notice. Being 100% scale is its own kind of fun, but at some point it becomes less of a "driver" and more of a static model that can also be driven. The Kyosho Mini-Z 4x4 is much more scale accurate than the SCX24. It walks right up to that line without stepping over it. Sure, it doesn't have an interior and it doesn't perform like a SCX24, but all of the details it does have are incredibly well done and the people who buy them may even appreciate the additional challenge the performance offers. Sadly, the 1/24 Trailfinder 2 lacks the quality, scale details of a Mini-Z 4x4 and the performance of a SCX24. Additionally, it is priced right in the middle of them. What would I do differently? For starters, it needs respectable electronics. The motor should be a 030, 050, or 130 size with an actual transmission. The servo could use more power, probably a 9g or 12g unit. Plastic gears are fine. We understand. It's a RTR. The TX is important. It's easier to ignore cheap parts in the truck than it is a cheap TX. It's the only contact point a user has. Make that a decent experience and give them something that fits the hand and at least doesn't feel cheap. The Turbo Racing 3-channel TX's are a good example of this and are bundled with RTR's under $100. It's great to have a hardbody, but put some paint on it! The TF2 looks like it's straight out of the mold. If you're going to make a scale truck, time to fully commit. Some of us saw this coming a few days ago and I think we were all hoping for a leaf-sprung rear suspension. It can be done! Look at the Proline Ambush. I think there is a group of people who would buy it for that detail alone. Lastly, I recommend reconsidering the 0.7" wheels and tires. This seems to be an entirely new ecosystem and one I've never seen anyone ask for. The 1.0" wheels and tires may not be scale, but there are a ton of options. If that isn't acceptable, maybe build upon the existing 0.9" ecosystem used by RGT/FTX, HobbyPlus, and supported by BoomRacing.

Absolutely couldn't agree more. They had the opportunity to nail a homerun. It's like a bunt, just enough to get on base, and in the game. The hard body is nice, but... this is rc4wd! They ARE scale rc, and came away with a mediocre effort. The fact that the "more powerful" motor comes with it, and they ruled a tutorial on replacing it, just shows they rushed to get it out. Element offers a divorced transfer case, I'm blown away rc4wd didn't follow suit there, and improve. The axles are nice. The body needed more detail, and the motor is just..... why? Add $100 to it, make it a leaf truck, or just better components, (metal links, better motor, etc) put a transmitter with it that isn't from 1992, real beadlocks, (I do believe they make a few! ) and detail the body properly. I would easily pay for the better truck then.
@bcochener
@bcochener 2 жыл бұрын
100% agree with you on the above. Not sure if the body even looks as good as a WPL C series? --The fact that they just absolutely nailed the 4Runner & 1987 Extra Cab RTR TF2s, makes this seem entirely phoned in for RC4WD.

@@robbinthehood94. I read your comment as well, as it's "great!", but really, it's not. It has short comings, just like all the others, but some could have been avoided. Especially from rc4wd. I've been in this hobby 34 years, I've seen a lot of wins, and a lot of fails. This sits dead in the middle. Just my opinion, of course. I think it's a cool little truck, but would have certainly been willing to pay more for the free things it's lacking. You kind of "expect" rc4wd to be at a level a bit above the rest, I'm just disappointed they didn't deliver what they had the potential of.

@@twisterzman I don't expect Axial quality from RC4WD, but I do expect them to be better than someone like RGT. I think that is true for their larger trucks, but not for the 1/24 TF2. The price adds insult to injury.

Yup, I want one. I already have a couple pair of those stamped steel beadlocks. Hoping they'll do a leaf spring kit as an add on. I've got a hardbody scx24 I did with a jeep Honcho puckup model kit. I love doing a full interior with full bed and asking the 10 scalers why it's so tough. Lol. (I know why, I have a bunch) Love your work, hope you do a short detail demo or something with this. It would be cool to show off all the 24 and 25 scale parts at the hobby shop in the plastic model area. As always, man. Have fun!

I would love to see more videos on this particular truck! I just ordered one and the only reason was because of the body. I do not own a bunch of crawlers like a lot of you people. I have always wanted a TF2. The past few days I dove pretty deep in the 1/24 mini crawler world. The night before kind of decided on a SCX24. Like all the options of upgrades, but just didn’t want any of the bodies. So this morning I decided on the rc4wd 1/24. Started to look around for better components and a giant hole of nothing. Found FURITEK makes a motor but really do not find any first hand experience on a 1/24 tf2. So I dig the more scale end of things but would love to see more videos on this truck, please!

The real news for me is the availability of scale 0.7" wheels and tires from RC4WD. I understand what they are initiating and I am all in. Is there going to be an aftermarket that supports this in terms of running gear? I hope so. I just never loved the SCX24 because it blurs scale. I'm definitely going for some .7" wheels and tires. The reduction motors with clockwork gears are not on my radar. I applaud RC4WD for the direction they are going. I enjoy and appreciate your videos.

Looks like a cool little truck. I think the price is high for what you get though. Seems that it's not remotely fast enough to be a trail truck that I would actually take out for a stroll just like my SCX24s. My Panda Hobby Tetra X1 is fantastic in that regard though. It's more than fast enough to take on a brisk walk. Having said that, I do like the idea of building one of these so I'll most likely order one. Seems there is lots of scale potential with this rig that just isn't there with the others on the market.

Coming back to this after 24hrs it strikes me this has more potential than it looks like. There’s a lot of room for different hardware for one thing. Milled is stronger than C-channel. Motor changing is quick. Can’t say that about the RocHobby/hobby plus/FMS 1/18’s. I don’t own an SCX24 so idk how fast that change would be. The body has potential. It’s more durable than any styrene option folks put on the SCX24 and the end result looks more scale.

They could have knocked it out of the park by making this closer to the quality of the Gelande II 1/18 chassis. BUT WITH ALL THE ARTICULATION. I was minutes in to the video and disappointed that it's all plastic underneath. I don't know, man. Give it time. Don't kill it off before it even gets a chance to take hold. I think Axial really had a major win with the Scx24 so it's hard to deliver something that would compare. BUT, I do totally agree that mods just might make this thing worthwhile. I just hope that companies actually produce parts for it instead completely abandoning the plastform like the RC4WD 1/18 scale.

😩 I think RC4WD totally missed the mark on this one. And I suspect you feel the same way after watching your review. Also, BIG mistake on the price. At $169 they are more than SCX24 and equal to FMS Toyota LC80. Both of those trucks perform right out of the box and the former almost has more aftermarket parts than 1/10 scale trucks. It’s too bad because it LOOKS great. Maybe with a Furitek ESC/motor combo it could work. Check out what Furitek can do for mini scale crawling kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ3MpKNqZZd7r6s

Man these are selling for 199 at my lhs, at that price I'd have been stupid to not get the scx24, and a few months later my scx24 build looks more scale and performs better lmao

big fail RC4WD but I wonder if a SCX24 trans can be made to fit. Definitely getting the body for a SCX24 build.

Thanks for the great review Matt. I think for the price point this truck misses the mark and I'm a bit disappointed. I'm a big RC4WD fan, but I'll pass on this offering for now.

I trail my SCX24 and Pandas all the time, but I know there limits. This one is $100.00, good for a child or indoors only.

I'm not a big fan of this, nor do I think it's worth upgrading. But, all that matters, is you're having fun with them!

Excellent video as always man. As for the truck; at an RC4WD price point, this doesn't look great. Hate to be negative because I love 1/24 RCs, but it just look like a Walmart toy that can barely move with any finesse. If it's meant to be more true to scale, they should have made sure that the driving and control matched this. The SCX24 can be made scale if you want to, with plenty of 1/24 hop up option out there. And the Kyosho are so much more detailed if you want super scale. A real shame. Hopefully the aftermarket can sort this one out

I was on the fence before seeing this but now I think it's a "no" vote. Maybe get 2 of the bodies when they become available and a Gelande2 1/18 to create a 4dr. Edit- I spoke too soon, ordered a blue one last night.🙄
