This might be the most perfect custom car I've ever seen or driven. Craig Wick of Wicked Fabrication and his team transformed a 1951 Ford Coupe into a perfect work of art for owner Bruce Leven. I saw this car at SEMA 2016 and kept going back to look at it over and over. The attention to detail is second to none. I put this in my Top 3 all time favorite custom list. They won the Gran Tursimo best overall which means if you play Gran Turismo then soon enough you'll get a chance to drive it in the game. Luckily for me, I got to drive it for real! I can't thank Craig and Roger enough for giving me the opportunity to share this car with you guys.
Jay Leno's Garage featured it a few months ago on his KZbin channel and visibly loved the car. Hard not to with the amount of time, energy, creativity and money along with endless amounts of passion, blood, sweat and in the end tears. Unfortunately, the owner Bruce Leven passed away before he got to drive it although he did get the opportunity to see it win awards and put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.
This episode is dedicated to Bruce Leven and his family. RIP Bruce.

Not often I see someone who experiences and displays the same emotional response for these mechanical marvels as I do. For me it was something akin to euphoria to just to look at her and hear her heart beating, let alone getting to drive her. Thank you for honouring the car, the builders and the owner. Too often people in your position fail to realise how sacred and special it is to be sharing someone else's dreams like that and their entitled and aloof behavior takes away from the experience. One again thank you for the honour with which you treated this car. PS, I think I would have shed a tear or two had I been in your position.

Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words. I also do all my own editing and had a moment of pause to show that level of emotion but the truth is the car, the builders and the owner deserve that level of honor and appreciation. I'm still knocked out at having driven this car. I fell in love with it at SEMA 2016 and it drives as good as it looks which is not true for all customs. For me, this is a perfect car. The story. The build itself. The choices. The execution. Every point on this is simply perfection. Glad to know someone else out there understands the emotion of it all. Thanks so much for your input.

The attention to detail on this car is INSANE! The body panel gap and fitment, even the exhaust is perfectly centered in the exit hole. The riveting, the pedal assembly, the paint. The stance is perfect. The tires and wheels perfect. Goes to show what can be done when a person has the time, the right shops and a blank cheque. Wow!

The best part that few people will get is that that's Bruce's jacket in the trunk. He always wore it and it gets to stay with his car. Even though he's gone, a piece of him stays with the car.

I see the 1.4 million spent on it, that car was worked on from the bottom up, all the work and men hours that went into this gorgeous car. It’s so sad the man that built it passed away before he got to drive it. He left his legacy behind that’s one beautifully crafted vehicle. I can only imagine how it drives and how it handles just stunning wow!! Rest In Peace Bruce, you wont ever be forgotten buddy.

Gotta say I love how much engagement this car has created within this community! I like getting to shine a bit of light on the Wicked Fabrication guys and the cars they build. I know it's insanity considering the dollar amounts but not for the guy that can afford it. All of the cars on my channel are out of my price point by a long shot but I think they're all true works of art and love that so many people are engaged in the content. Thanks all!!

Everyone that's saying they don't see the money here, has NO idea what it takes to fabricate something like this!!! Stunning piece of art. One of the greatest things here, for me, is that they didn't put a new LS or coyote motor in it. The car is, for lack of better words "perfect" as it sits.

As a custom builder myself I could discuss this car for hours with you but ill just make one point: up to this point i have never seen chrome and gold work, its always a choice what ever you are designing, but in that engine bay it has worked seamlessly, I suspect its the blend of the other colours but just that detail alone makes me realise how much thought has gone into this car

@@AutotopiaLA Shawn, I get the emotion. Getting to drive something that special is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you handled it like a pro. Well done!! I worked in a shop in San Francisco in the early 90's that sold many really nice sports cars, Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches, and the list goes on... On many a quiet Sunday afternoon, I'd spend time either sitting with a camera, looking for a unique angle or view point to capture a 1963 Ferrari 330 LMB, or a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Spyder, or a 1986 288 GTO. I never did get the chance to drive one but I sat in several of them and did drive several much less auspicious Ferraris. They were all nice but some just stood out from everything else. My time in that shop and the ten years or so I spent with SCCA resulted in a pretty special collection of memories and photos that I never imagined as a boy, that I'd get. I never had the money to own them but I certainly appreciated the trust a few people had that allowed me to drive some phenomenal cars. You'll never forget that old Ford!

I worked for Bruce as a Porsche technician at Bayside Porsche Saab and Lotus in Seattle in the 80's & early 90's. When I started working there his demo was a Guards Red 928 S4 with a GIANT, full color Porsche badge decal right in the middle of the hood.....Bruce was definitely a "car guy"!.

I really like how they channeled the body and didn't chop the top too much. that Lincoln engine had to be difficult to get high performance parts for. they must had a make a lot of the parts. they even kept the large sized steering wheel. I love it I'm probably giving away my age. but I really love the old school approach that they took. I thought I recognized the çar from Jay Leno's Garage. it's a terrible shame that Mr Leven didn't get to drive the car. it's actually heart breaking. I know what you mean about being honored to drive it. for just the opposite reason because I know I will never get the opportunity to drive such a car.

I appreciate your response Sean , Just think about it , what could possibly cost that much , you say that it was a 5 year restoration, I was involved in a 1950s Ferrari restoration that required the work of the some of the most expensive restoration specialist in the classic Car world located in and around Modena , Italy the birthplace of Ferrari , it doesn’t really get much more expensive than those people , restoration took almost 10 years , at one a new engine block was needed and the nice people a Ferrari costumers restoration assistance were nice enough to CAST A NEW ONE FROM 1950s DRAWINGS, can you grasp that, Ferrari cast and machined a new 1951 V12 engine block , cost in 1998 17000 US $ today’s money 30 - 35000 $ tops , a new aluminum body hammered on wooden bucks by masters of the craft , interior made with the same machines that made them in the 50s , same shops made the carpeting etc , etc , I don’t know my friend , in the restoration world it doesn’t really get much more expensive than those guys , total cost was $ 275 k , so you why I find this to be out and out thievery if any one charges this kind of figures .

This was also my thought. Gorgeous car and build but 100k for a paint job? Cmoooooooooooon. Where's the rest of the cost? Assuming maybe in the labor over 5 years
@Gerald5000
@Gerald5000 6 жыл бұрын
I think most of that money is in man-hours. Everything is handmade, so that adds up in wages. 100K in paint and panel would include subtle metal working like a slight roof chop. The underside of the car appears to be rolled inwards all around, maybe even the body has had some sectioning done. That's so much more time consuming than just buying all new parts [especially being a 50s car] and bolting them on like you would see on these car "reality shows".

1 of many reasons why its a 1.4 million dollar car is the fact that the shop in charge of building the car, likely sourced real original parts. If you ever built a car, finding anything pre 1980 becomes extremely hard to find, and harder if you live outside America. The hard part is being able to buy the part for the right price, as most people who do have spare vintage parts would charge arms and legs for. Not to mention, the owner was involved in the build process, which means he probably had the shop change the car and set ups over 200-300 times, whether it was parts, nuts, bolts, looks, etc.

the story behind this car is meaningful and the car is the full version of what a bootlegger/ bankrobber would build if he had the money. bankrobbers are the ultimate category of cars in my heart. cars that have just a little practicality left in them and they do everything right,and you cant take your eyes of it and everytime you see it you learn something knew about it.
