Super helpful as always! I have Pumping Nylon and I have seen the exercise, but it's nice to hear where in the exercise I can focus and also that I can start small and move up. Pumping Nylon contains tons of super fantastic exercises but it is also pretty advanced, without much in the way of beginner/intermediate/advanced exercise separation.

YESS INDEED!!! So glad you posted this video because it is one that we ALL need to focus on!!! Left hand finger independence!!! I believe utilizing the first and second fingers as well as the third and fourth fingers independently with the opposing motion is also beneficial. In the book pumping nylon I believe Scott has about two or three more of those exercises.. in that same section that emphasizes finger independence. And as you know there is a section in there talking about walking which is FANTASTIC for the right hand!!! Once again so glad I found you on KZbin, I think you are one of the best!! Thanx for the motivation!!

Exactly the practice I've needed, my finger movement is informal since I self-taught myself by playing fingerstyle music and I've been trying to improve my finger and arm stance while holding the guitar so this really helps out! Thanks so much ✊🔥

@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy The whole extent of my musical capabilities is picking individual notes on the bottom 3 strings that sound the most similar to the base notes of what I am actually listening to. This exercise is the first thing I saw from all my guitar learning subscriptions that I can actually do. I bought my guitar two years ago and subscribed to yousician, I sometimes did 6 days worth of lessons in one, so I progressed considerably in just 3 weeks, then I had to cancel my subscription ad got stuck around that level since. Now I'm trying to improve on youtube, but it's difficult trying to find exercises that as you say focus on things I'd actually like to play instead of stupid chord exercises. I do not want to play chords, I want to play notes. In my book, playing chords and calling it playing music is like humming and calling it singing.

Hey Nathan, I was just wondering do you plan on opening the doors of the Beyond The Guitar Arrangers Academy again? I was going to sign up but at that time I didn't because I had all these exams and lessons that I had to attend but now I have all these free time and I am spending it poorly, trying to figure out how to arrange is scary and hard. I would love to see you open Arrangers Academy again and I believe I am not the only one. Be safe and take care, Thanks!! :)

So normally I take all these tips from KZbin videos about playing guitar or banjo and it helps maybe a bit here and there, or it's stuff that I already know and it doesn't add much.. But all you're tips and advice have improved my playing and practicing a lot in a very short time..! I feel like I'm practicing much more efficient now, Incredible! Especially with these bad habit videos and 50 tips. Exactly all the little things I didn't know I was doing wrong, or making it just a bit inefficient. And good quality videos too. Keep it up.

@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy I really like your philosophy on practising techniques! I've been through quite a few books which focused more on practising scales. To be honest, I lose motivation after practising scales for a long time! Your technique is a 'quick to go through' like task which will really help out novice players like me! Thank you :)
@prwtotokos61
@prwtotokos61 4 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound crazy to me, as I never practice scales, which is about as much fun as watching paint dry. I saw an interview once in which Goran Sollscher admitted that he never practices scales. If a world-class virtuoso like Sollscher can do without, I figure that I can as well!
@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy
@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! They're more valuable when you're just starting out, but now I'd much rather practice scale passages within actual music. Plus, when do you ever see a straight ascending and descending C major scale (for example) in actual music? Tommy Emmanuel, from the fingerstyle world, mentioned not practicing drills and such as well.
