In this video I take a deep dive look at what seems to one of the biggest issues folks have with Tonex software and Tonex Pedal. I am referring to the situation where someone is trying to transfer their tone models/presets from the software to the pedal while using Tonex Pedal as the interface to monitor. There are a couple specifics things you need to know to accomplish this successfully and I hope to clear that up here. I also take a bit of time to showcase my latest Ravv 40 TR Ultimate tone model collection which I have been enjoying immensely as of late. I really hope you enjoy the video and the tone models!

What I personally do is use 2 channels of my Focusrite interface . From my guitar I plug into a Radial Twin City ABY , then one path goes to the Focusrite channel 1 , and the other into the Tonex Pedal ,then into channel 2 . I then unmute channel 2 in the Focusrite software and set the Tonex software to channel 1 , then adjust the inputs to match. This allows me to switch between the software and the pedal instantly . I works really well .

Thanks for going over this. I just got my Tone X pedal and after being used to working with HX Edit with all of my Helix pedals I was totally frustrated that none of my edits were doing anything on my pedal. I think the lack of an editor for the pedal is a serious flaw that will be the reason many won’t pursue working with this pedal and probably a reason many are returned after purchasing. I sure hope IK will be updating the software to be a true pedal editor similar to HX Edit. Again thanks for doing these videos which are very helpful.

Thanks. Maybe a video on the latest ToneX update with the ToneX One would be useful? Does the new pedal have live and interface modes? If not, how do we get what we hear in software to be the same when we use the pedal? I got my ToneX One yesterday and I’m struggling to get good results. Loved the track by the way.

Best piece of advice. Press the solid green button until it flashes green in interface mode. The only problem is the reverb parameter doesn’t work but the rest of them do. What’s up. Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for all the video tutorials on the pedal. I’m two days into owning it and was so confused and frustrated the first day. I’ve watched several of these videos and am starting to wrap my head around the overall process. I’m also intrigued by your blended amp models. I have soldano plugin and it’s great. However I’m not satisfied with my sound of Tonex one and the software. Too much weird noises. My Tonex one goes in to my Steinberg interface which has a gain and volume knobs that are on the lower end adjust the volume in the software (input and output) and the volume on my monitors. I don’t why sounds are crappy compared to my Soldano plugin.

Please do another video just like this but for the TONEX One. I'm hearing double amp/cab because the software is doing it as well as the TONEX One. I can put my TONEX into stomp mode and set it to bypass in stomp mode, but to my knowledge there isn't a concept of "live" and "interface" mode on the TONEX One. Also, on the software side... other than closing the software how the hell do I mute the TONEX software so that I can listen to the pedal?

I’m using the tonex one, new to the software, having a helluva time. In the pedal the preset is soaked in reverb. The alt function on the pedal the reverb control acts as a sort of volume for the reverb not the mix or level of reverb. I can’t seem to adjust any of the effects on the presets. Please help!

So when you go from monitoring the software using your pedal as an audio interface, then go to monitoring the pedal itself... I didn't see you moving any cables around. When you're listening to the pedal are you utilizing the 1/4" outputs in any way... or is the sound coming over USB? Are your monitors just hooked up directly to the TONEX or another inteface?

I am new to the Tonex. I had a Line 6 Stomp and the Quad Cortex. Learned both of those systems. I gotta say, trying to wrap my head around using the Tonex software with the pedal has been a struggle. Not very intuitive. I first started using and figuring out the Aplitude 5 Max software and was very happy with the presets and use. I have come to learn that Aplitude 5 Max presets cannot be used on the Tonex pedal. You would think since they gave you Aplitude 5 and Tonex software for free that the Aplitude 5 would be the presets you will use on the pedal. Am I correct with my comment? Thank you in advance. You are very good at explaining this system. Your videos saved me from losing my mind! LOL

Annoyingly though you have to keep going into global set up every single time. It’s a flaw.

The big question is are there any sound difference between using the pedal in live and interface mode with identical settings? Does sample rate, buffer size, latency become a problem and make the sound quality worse when using it as an interface. This is my biggest concern. I am about to buy this pedal, but really want to know this. Also can I use it in live mode, and play backing tracks through the pedal to my studio monitors? Or can that only be done in interface mode? Please elaborate. Thanks

Good morning, It's my first day with Tonex and your videos are very useful, thank you. Not easy to configure actually for the moment I'm tinkering and it seems to work well with the trim at 0 the main volume at -12DB and the interface at -18DB and the output level at the bottom of the software at -6.1. All this to correspond to the setting of my ID14 sound card set differently. On presets that I created on the Tonex software before connecting the pedal. Haven't tried it yet in studio one or in pedalboard mode. In audio settings control panel I do not have access to the input and output volume, is this normal? I had some bugs with the drivers but it works. I use google translate I hope it will be understandable :)

I would get IR 2. But I'm also just learning the difference between modeling and captures. Captures seem like a heck of a process. Leaning towards a Headrush, but I'm still looking around.

Can we agree on that whoever programmed this piece of software is clearly not a user of the software or the pedal? I am curious to see who did the UAT on this! It is really counter-intuïtive to use and whenever I haven’t used it for a couple of days, I am back at square one on understanding it…. Also, I noticed that Jason made changes on the preset in the Player mode and then dragged it to the pedal? This will not give you the changed Preset on the pedal, will it? You need to ‘download’ it first to your Library (with a different name preferably) and then ‘upload’ this version to your pedal. Or am I wrong?

I'll bet Tonex thought they were being 'innovative' - maybe even 'revolutionary' - with their new workflow implementation. Wrong. It's just un-intuitive and difficult to use. Let me know if/when they fix their garbage software and maybe I'll dust off my now useless Tonex pedal and give it another try. In the meantime, I'll be working on my Line 6 Helix, cuz, guess what: it's actually easy and intuitive to work with.
