Back in the late 1970's early 80's, I had a retired friend that lived on the other side of a small town where I use to live. Most late evenings he would be on 28.4 mhz USB, talking to his buddies. I would listen in on my Kenwood R-2000 receiver. A couple of times when I was over at his place, he let me talk on his rig set for VOX, with some of the other guys. One man was an engineer that worked for Amp inc., he help to develop/invent the crimp on connectors for them way back when. All the those local ham guys, on 10 meters, past way sad to say.

Sage life advice transmitted through the TS-520! One small house, one wife, DIY maintenance, and driving cars into the ground allowed me to retire at 62. There is something to be said for Yankee frugality! DE K1TB

Mee too! No house payments, no car payments, one wife (ever) and retired at 62 (from Motorola) as well. We live comfortably in a single level home in a small conservative city here in the Ozarks. One of the Bible belts. I used to run amplifiers all the time, now usually just QRP.

Thanks. I've never heard Tim on ssb. Great to see you dust off the 520. 73.

Reminds me of the group of high school students who got together on 40/80m after school circa 1970 that I hung around with in 6-land; we were a bit rowdy to say the least as the topics were a bit different! Drakes, Swans and even an Eico "drifty" or two! ;-) 73 - Dino KLØS

WOW, WA1HLR! He never does SSB! I’ve been listening to him from my NNJ QTH since my pre-novice days from 1975 except he was on AM. I listened to him first from a cheap multi-band radio I got for my birthday then switched to listening to him on my Drake 2-C. Him and the very informal AM net he was on talked about practically everything. I remember one talk about the sci-fi series Space 1999 back then. Thanks to WebSDRs I can still hear him a the AM Net.

Hey, I really enjoyed this one. Inspiration to get me involved again. I've been a "Tech" for a few years now. But, life "got busy" as they say and I haven't done much, other than a little SWL. I'd like to do a little General License studying this year. Thanks, Mike . 73 Rick, KE8KCD

Sounds like some AMers finally giving the silly-side a try to see what all the ruckus is about. :)

HLR on SSB? This is clearly an indication that we are in the end times. Next: Irv returns to the air waves! Yikes! 73 Bill N2CQR
