Very nice job Nikos. You have the “it factor” for public speaking!

Loved it, Nikos! The part where you said "polar bears don't have a claim on your life. 8 billion people don't have a claim on your life" was powerful! I've seen other talks where you've talked about "if we say that capitalism is goodd because look at these graphs that show that GDP increases, you will bore people. If you say that capitalism is the only moral system there is, then you will convince people." However, the whole "other people don't have a claim in your life" part was amazing! Keep up the good work!

Recently I thought about the cardinal values. I wondered why freedom wasn't one of them. After all reason, purpose, self-esteem all depend on freedom as values. Even your personal identity as a human depends on freedom.
@nikos_17175 ай бұрын
I guess because freedom is about society and other people, and is not only up to you. Maybe appreciating freedom and fighting for it is a value in itself though (which isn't miles away from virtues such as independence and productiveness).
@NoaHerngren5 ай бұрын
@@nikos_1717 that is true, freedom is the absence of force from other people. However to hold a cardinal value means to recognize and value something which is crucial to your existence, so I still think freedom qualifies as one. Im thinking of what don watkins said in effective egoism: "to value reason means to value your means of survival. To value purpose means to value the exercise of your free will" To value freedom would mean, to value the basic condition for cognition?

I think it’s because freedom is a sub consequential value of those primary one. If you value reason you will value freedom to use it. If you value self esteem you will value the freedom to express it. If you have no self esteem why would you want to be free? Your worthless anyways

ive never heard an audio quality so weird the speaker sounds like a Celeste character :p
@nikos_17175 ай бұрын
Laughing, though I don't even know what a Celeste character is! Yeah, recording isn't great, though I did my best with filters etc (which ended up 'deleting' the applause at the end, so now it sounds like an awkward silence).

@@nikos_1717 oh it's a pixel-art videogame and the characters don't have voice actors, instead, they just make like "bleep mleep neep" noises when their text appears on the screen. example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iovTgntuoLiKhLc (btw the audio quality didn't bother me at, it was only weird)
