As a person on the lower end of the income scale, I appreciate this video. I work in a recycling center and am hard on my boots. I’ve been lucky with thrifting, but I also had to buy a pair of cheap boots on a big shopping site during the pandemic. I again learned that cheap items are often more expensive in the long run.

I bought the thorogood Moc toe boots a couple of years ago and found them to be very comfortable, actually was quite surprised just how nice and comfortable they were, but I paid more as got them here in Australia. They were closer to $500 but 100% worth it and would buy them again.

I still love my thorogood 4364's, for a boot I can do everything in, the machined brass speed hooks are one of the best things about them. Too many other boots use chintzy stamped speed hooks that bend easily. Thorogood may not be the best heritage type boot out there but they do hold up and the balance is great for an affordable working boot. Recently I've gotten into footwear by footskins, their Moccasin walking boots are the most comfortable footwear I've ever worn.

I think Taft boots deserve a shoutout, specifically for those who already have a decent boot collection. They aren’t as versatile but they are definitely a great piece to have to stand out from your other footwear because of their color contrast and materials.

I just bought Parkhurst Richmond's in Rust Waxy, factory seconds for $278, shipping included. Was a few surface scratches on the leather, as advertised. I am planning to use these as knock around boots and expect to be rough on them, so no problem on the slight scratches on the leather in a few places. Amazing boot. Great fit at 9.5 D while I am 10 on Brannock, 9 in Red Wing Iron Rangers. I am very impressed with Parkhurst boots. And they can be had for under $300.

Hi from down under, really happy for the RM. Williams mention. We don't have many outlets for international boots so I heavily rely on your videos for advice/sizing info. I have a pair of Vanguards from Thursday and it has been a bit of a squeeze. They must use a skinnier last than the president or capitan because it has been slightly uncomfortable to break in around the toe cap. Red wing Iron Rangers are a fantastic boot apart from the break in. Probably the worst break in I've ever had apart from the RM Williams stock man boot which I have had for about 5 months and am still trying to break in... Completely agree with the Thursday Boots mention, I am approaching 9 pairs of them. Meerman and Grant stone are next on the list with a potential for a Red Wing Moc.

For us guys in Europe American boots are much more due to the import price. Thursday ended up being around 250e and grant stone in alden price range. Meermin on the other hand is much more friendly with free shipping so it ends up costing as stated on the page

i only spend a ton of $ on the items i use more frequently. Since, i only wear boots 3 to 4 months a year on average, then i'm usually going for the mid-tier brands (**e.g. Thursday Boots, Beckett Simonon, etc.). I'd love to try the more premium brands, but i would never pay those prices.

I have a few of these. I have 2 pairs of Thursday Captains and they are the most comfortable boots I own. I have a pair of Diplomats, which I recently had resoled to add a more durable Vibram commando sole (while retaining the original Christy sole as a midsole...it sounds weird but it works, trust me). I bought a few pairs of Meermins. While the finishing isn't always perfect, they are super comfortable when they are broken in. I have a pair of the Chelseas in Waxy Commander for the winter. As Meermin is a Spanish company, it is a lot more affordable for people in the EU.

I think they are a good gateway boot for people who want to try GYW footwear, but don't want to invest a lot of money. I can understand people being sniffy about Thursday, but I was happy I got what I paid for. My favorite boots are a pair of tan Lennertson Chieftains. Check them out. They're great.

I have a wide foot and a hard heel strike when I walk. I'm wondering which of these brands have a really good shock absorbing soft outsole with a wide size offering. This video came out just in time for when I'm looking for a perfect casual boot.

If you like mocs the Thorogoods have a longer lasting sole than the Redwings that will help out with the heel a bit. They are also more comfortable when it comes to shock seeing as they have a poron insert. Trade-off for comfort as the man made materials will deteriorate faster than Redwings. That said I've put a lot of work hrs on concrete and pavement in the last 18 months on the Thorogoods. Original insert is still holding up well and the heels are worn some but not ready for a resole yet in my eyes. Available in EE. As Nick mentions they make a good more work oriented boot but they also pull off casual everyday as well.

Grant Stone has a few boots on sale now, under 300, including the awesome tan suede Chelsea boots that I ironically bought for full price a couple weeks ago. I love my Adalante Havanas but the break in was a bit rough. My feeling is the standard D width might be a little narrow for some. For me though, they fit fine after the break in. Speaking of that, I returned my Meermin Chelsea boots because they were comically narrow. It was bizarre. Lastly, my Helm Hollis boots are super well made, great looking, and comfortable straight out of the box. No break in.

Theyre good, but the hiro last is quite small so you should go 0.5 - 1 size up. Theyre pure torture to break in though, and their customer service is the worst you will ever experience. But if you get a good (non faulty) boot that fits its great.

I have a couple of loafers from Meermin and one pair of Chelsea boots. Meermin are great value for money, the shoes have a tougher break in than some others. The customer service isn't as good as some American brands, Europeans don't do customer service in the same way. The shoes are quality!

Interesting. Most find the recommendation of going 1/2 down from sneaker size to be too big. Remember that leather stretches once broken in. I had to go down a full size but 1.5 sizes from sneaker size fit like a pair of pre-broken in Iron Ranger. Order your dress shoe size and a half size down from that then decide which is the better fit.

I checked with urban shepherd and they confirmed that they only ship within Europe so you can only get your hands on them if u have somebody in Europe who can buy for you & then send the boots over to you in America

That's a step down from a 1000mi heritage boot 🙄 and I think the Indonesian companies should have gotten an honorable mention since most are under $400, so if ur willing to spend $300 why not just spend the extra money and get a hand welted Indonesian made boot that's gonna be a significant improvement over the production boots on this list? Also, if people are really looking for budget options, they're gonna have to shop resale, Poshmark/eBay, factory seconds, handme downs, and reddit frugal men's fashion, as well as looking for sales. Just as an example, the JCrew Kenton with horween leather could be had for $80 including shipping, and the quality was pretty decent, and this sale happened multiple times if u missed out the first time.

It's surprising that nobody has said anything about the Thursday boots being too narrow and dressy. How can a heritage style work boot enthusiast even like Thursday boots? I don't get it. The prices are good, but at least make one boot that's a bit bulky and bulbous. They're missing out on a big demographic of boot lovers here. 😣

After a little over a year of watching your videos, I only got 1 big complain ! My friggin' bank account is suffering. I went from nikes and adidas tennis to over a dozen boots and just keep buying. Is boot wearing an addiction ? I now own 5 trumans 1 whites, 1 nicks, 1 thorogood, 1 wesco, 3 red wings, 3 allen edmonds, 3 grant stones and a couple more on order. Damn it that's way over a dozen

I would not recommend Oliver Cabell at all. Although I've never bought from them, the horror stories from Reddit have scared me away from that brand and really it makes no sense why KZbinrs recommend them; it only hurts your credibility. Sure people are more likely to give negative reviews rather than positive, but how many negative reviews are there of brands like Parkhurst, Grant Stone, Alden, and Taft? Barely any at all, even though "people are more likely to give negative reviews." I'm okay with even Meermin being on this list because there are as many great reviews of Meermin as bad reviews. But Oliver Cabell is just a no-go.

You know I actually had a line in the video where I said as much, that the customer service has a bad reputation, but I cut it because it felt mean. I guess I think that if the boot is $199 that the company's faults are in line with what you're paying, but you've given some food for thought
