Engineer boots come from welders if something called the hot foot that’s when the weld or spark goes through your pant leg and goes down your boot. These boots were designed so you can kick the boot off quickly.

I like engineer boots. But the fact is, I have huge calves with little ankles. And big feet. So when I would wear them, they just don’t look right. I usually wear an ankle boot. Even boots that are mid. I can’t wear them because it just doesn’t look right on my legs.

Back in the day I walked trails like the Appalachian Trail , etc. with leather soles and never had great problems in rain, snow or anything. Oh well??? I hate cleated soles. Just came in from the snow and it will take 15 minutes for the now to work out of the cleats. Errrr!!!!

Any boots are better than doc martens. They call them combat boots but I’d rather wear sandals, then doc martens in a combat zone.

Not sure I agree with anyone saying they’re great straight from the box. Mine were horrible for the first three shopping trips. I don’t like docs and lanx boots are more expensive. I bought these for £200 with a free brush. Cat loves it😂 One question: how should I care for them? This is my first pair of decent boots. And I’m one of those people you spoke about who doesn’t care to pay for more leather layers. It’s really cold here and I’m fine in these boots. Anyway thanks again

Guy…calling iron rangers a “casual only” boot is eating into hipster propaganda. I used my iron rangers for 5 years, nothing prior to these held up for more than a year. Now my company is large enough that I mostly do inspections and client relations, but do at least 7-10mi per day. For anyone that doesn’t need to be OSHA compliant these are a gift from god. Period. And don’t compare them to Thursday boots, these are in another universe of quality.

Doc Martens...got a pair in early 90s, wore them every day for 4 years: the soles lasted, but the terrible crappy leather upper had long before split, and the holes got so big that I had to throw them out!! And that was when they were much better quality than they are now (!!)

Naked&Famous are the best...probably had 10 pair over the years and they always have such character after a break-in period. Every pair ends up being a piece that people comment on.

I love my 405’s, but I don’t love Alden’s customer service. They won’t touch you boots unless you want a full rebuild. There’s at least 2 resoles before that’s necessary.
