The problem with climber vines whether it's Boston ivy or anything else can rot out wood draw bugs & mice even termites, I planted morning glories years ago on a trelas against the house the vines had worked their way under the eaves & roofing that went into the attic so I removed the entire trelas & grow them now on a chain link fence 130' long & are yearly growing in southern California.

Agreed, that is why I grow the more vigorous types such as Vitis cognetiae and Parthenocissus as well as Wisteria up into trees and not on house walls
